Simran (2017)
Kangana alone can carry a film on her shoulders
I must say I am impressed by Kangana Ranaut's performance in this film. Her acting is so outstanding, that she reminds me of the greatest of the actors who can , 'become" their characters. She has beautifully portrayed her state of mind on her expressions and carried the entire film on her shoulders. I am not aware of any actress in present day Bollywood (Except Kajol and Rani) who can do this. The film is successful in what it was trying to do, I.e to tell a story. This is the story of a real life Indian girl who is actually in the prison. The film is her story. Not every movie is meant for giving a message to the society. But if you want a message, here it is " Don't be like Praful, or you will end up in jail". Lol
Zed Plus (2014)
Nice movie for the budget
Fantastic movie, better than the mindless comedies of big budgets. Screenplay is not as much intriguing as Peepli live, but still somehow manages to hold till the end. Congratulations to All the cast and crew for a good movie in small budget.
Karma (2015)
R.Aravind creates History
Congratulations Mr. R Aravind for creating such an intriguing movie.
The movie is a must watch for the film enthusiasts to know how much more can be achieved with how much less.
The somewhat predictable ending becomes unpredictable all of a sudden at the end twist.
And the confusion gets cleared after the movie ends!
Yes! In the title card! Amazing work! Bravo!
This movie will remain in the History of Indian cinema as a steady source of inspiration to the aspiring Filmmakers of the next generation.
Bose: Dead/Alive (2017)
Overwhelming
10/10 Undoubtedly the best effort till date to portray the Greatest leader of the Nation. Serious flaw : 1.Timeline. This "Back and forth" approach is seriously hampering the flow of the story. The Editor should keep it straight according to the timeline as far as possible . The incidents are very complex to understand. And they take place in so many countries, that the common people will get confused what happened when and why.
2. Leader of the mass No shot was there where Netaji is shown addressing a huge crowd as a congress leader. Thus a fresher won't realize what a popular leader he was. 3. Cornered by the congress and British This part could have been a little elaborated.
That's enough criticism for such a MAMMOTH project. The people of India are grateful to you all.... for giving life to such a Great Person again . IT IS A REVOLUTION INDEED. The work you have done, I am in short of words to express my gratitude. Jai Hind.
Praktan (2016)
A 22 min story told in 2 hr 22 min
Highly over-rated at present. Let me put it in a nicer way .I love these filmmaker duo and "Icche" is their best movie till date .
This one (Praktan) is a boring Coaching class of "what to do and what not to do in a relationship".
People who are not familiar with Prasenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta,( the star casts of the film ), and the Bengali music band "Bhoomi" , will find this movie even more boring.
Honestly, its a 22 min story told in 2 hr 22 min! That too with the help of Sequences totally UNRELATED TO THE MAIN STORY .
Worst moment(other than the Biswanath-Manali episodes) :(Spoiler ahead) When Rituparna enjoys the 'Kolkata' song and starts remembering her sweet first meet with Prasenjit, her ex-hubby . Now, you must be thinking "What's the problem with that?" The problem is , This comes in the next minute of a phone call which confirms that the lady in her coupe is her Ex-husband's present wife, and she gets visually ANGRY with Prasenjit and his entire family again, after 10 years ! And suddenly she starts cherishing "sweet memories"!- How impractical and absurd!
However,Prasenjit Chatterjee did justice to his character , his acting is very subtle and splendid . And a song, "Tumi jake Bhalobasho" is the other thing that I loved . Iman Chakraborty's version is better .
My rating is 5.5 . The rating of 1 is just to pull down its overrating which is currently at 8.3, (same as of "Pather Panchali" by the Great Trio of Satyajit Ray-Subrata Mitra-Banshi Chandragupta) , which is not justified.
Les diaboliques (1955)
MISTAKE OF THE Millennium
MISTAKE#1. At the end, when the headmaster checks the radial pulse of his wife..... SHE WAS BREATHING! YES. Please watch it again and you will find her breathing normally.
MISTAKE#2. Who can give 100% guarantee that SHE WILL "DEFINITELY" DIE OF AN HEART ATTACK AFTER WATCHING THE "GHOST"? What if she doesn't die by chance? There were high chances of her getting nervous and cry for help. Then everybody would come in and he would get caught red handed.
SO WHY IN EARTH, SOMEBODY SHOULD GO FOR SUCH A PLAN WHERE THERE IS NO 100% GUARANTEE OF GETTING AN HEART ATTACK?
MISTAKE#3. What was the detective doing there at the end? That means he Had thought of it earlier.... NOW, IF HE HAD ANTICIPATED IT EARLIER , THEN WHY DID'NT HE WARN THE REAL VICTIM?
Sorry Sir.... I didn't buy this. Although It is not worth of a single star, but I gave it to level down the high rating of 8.1 And again, Sorry for that...
My rating is 6/10
Schatten der Zeit (2004)
A Masterpiece
Excellent storytelling. Excellent Cinematography. Excellent Art Direction. Excellent Editing. Excellent Acting, specially the child actors. Excellent portrayal of emotions. Excellent Music.
Not so excellent ENDING OF THE STORY.
Let's see why..
Near the ending we see that Ravi finds Masha and THEIR son in the brothel and gives them money. Masha was initially JUSTIFIABLY very much angry with Ravi due to several reasons . Ravi too, got initially angry with Masha when She refused him.
ITS ABSOLUTELY OKAY. JUSTIFIED.
But in the next scene we see that Ravi is going away in a boat, HE IS IN TEARS. Masha is running behind him and after missing the boat, standing helplessly in the jetty, SHE IS ALSO IN TEARS.
Now,you see, BOTH OF THEM ARE IN TEARS, Which means that THE INITIAL ANGER HAS DISSOLVED ON BOTH SIDES, AND THEY ARE NO LONGER ANGRY WITH EACH OTHER.
Now, as a matter of fact, Masha very well knows where Ravi lives. They both are in the same city.
Ravi very well knows where Masha lives, with his son, which is the product of their long standing love.
Now, being SO SENSIBLE a person,as we see him since childhood, how can he NOT meet his lady love and their son for the REST OF HIS LIFE? His son died also , he didn't even care!
And Masha, how can She NOT come to Ravi's house , AT LEAST ONCE in her life, to APOLOGIZE for her Misbehavior on that day?
It is here, where I think the Rationality lacks a bit.
Some might say, that Ravi left his wife for Masha, and when Masha refused him, he left for an unknown destination.
FINE.
But in practice, what we have seen in the film, that THEIR INITIAL ANGER WAS DISSOLVING IMMEDIATELY as they were departed, and they have an EXTREME PASSION FOR EACH OTHER , So much so, that an aged Ravi visits the Factory in hope to see Masha, and a blind old Masha identifies Ravi by his body fragrance and changed voice.
SO, it was just a matter of Time, that a LONELY Ravi will come back to Masha again.
Again at the end when they meet at an old age, Ravi doesn't disclose his identity!
Why did he come then? Only to see her for once?
Okay, but doesn't he have the minimum responsibility to say that he has come to see her? Come on! A blinded Masha is waiting for you Man! She may die any day!! This might be your LAST MEET before you both die!
I think here again, the rationality lacks severely.
Why still I call it a Masterpiece then? Mmmm...I don't know, just MY HEART SAYS IT !
The Hateful Eight (2015)
Pointless overcooked movie
POINTLESS#1 :
Because at around 38th minute, when KURT RUSSEL and Jennifer first enters the café, KURT RUSSEL was trying to NAIL THE DOOR for around 1 MINUTE 30 SECONDS, JENNIFER'S brother hiding and his Friend sitting there, EASILY could have shot KURT and rescued Jennifer!!! SIMPLE!!! WHAT WERE THEY WAITING FOR?
POINTLESS#2 : Why someone should 'POISON THE COFFEE'?, WHEN THEY HAVE ENOUGH GUNS???
OVERCOOKED: Too much violence against woman. Too much racist remarks. Too much use of the 'N' word. Too much blood. Too much violence. Too much Sexual Perversion.
Tarantino'S WORST
The Good Road (2013)
Worthless script, poor acting
I never write reviews for bad movies, but as this was our Oscar going film, I decided to write it for the Jury who selected this film for the Oscars.
1.The boy tells at first that he is feeling hot and then pulls over a blanket!!!!
2. Later it was found that it was because of the blanket the parents could not see the boy....POOREST PLOT... sorry to say Sir.
3. There is absolutely no connection of the girl with the plot.....IF YOU RE-EDIT THE MOVIE AND REMOVE THE GIRL'S STORY OUT...THE MOVIE WILL REMAIN THE SAME!!
4.Poor acting of the parents when they realize that the boy was not in the car.
5. The police could have easily called the Dhaba where the parents stopped first...as because they never stopped in the middle, and the boy asked for some water to his MOM at the first stop, its obvious that he is either at the present stop or the previous stop. Now don't tell me that police don't have the numbers...
6. The boy is very reluctant to go back to her parents...he seems to be fine with the situation..which is not so believable.
7. Sonali's RANN-YATRA was too hilarious and predictable.
8. Last but not the least, the boy gets down from his parents car as he was very thirsty...and he saw some cold drinks and his father at the Dhaba..thats why he came out...but never searched for it in the Dhaba! Instead he started playing with a puppy!! So funny, so poor screenplay.
what was the necessity of getting thirsty then?? The director could have shown that the boy saw the cute puppy and came out from the car! simple!
THE IDEA OF THE MOVIE WAS FINE, BUT THE DIRECTOR MISSED THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE A MASTERPIECE FROM IT...POOR SCREENPLAY AND POOR ACTING WAS THE MAIN DRAWBACKS. CINEMATOGRAPHY IS THE ONLY SEGMENT WHERE THIS MOVIE CAN GET SOME MARKS.
I am NOT so impressed with "THE LUNCHBOX" either...
MY QUESTION IS, IF THE JURY FINDS NO PICTURE FIT TO SEND TO THE Oscars, IS IT MANDATORY TO SEND ONE?
PLEASE DON'T SEND SUCH MOVIES FROM THE LAND OF SATYAJIT RAY ,RITWICK GHATAK, MRINAL SEN, GAUTAM GHOSH, SHYAM BENEGAL, MANI RATNAM, TAPAN SINHA, ADOOR GOPALAKRISHNAN, BUDDHADEB DASGUPTA, SAI PARANJPE,GOVIND NIHALANI AND SO MANY OF THE MASTERS!
Raga (1971)
Awesome
So beautifully made... featuring so many of the greatest maestros of east and west.... excellent cinematography and music.... Ravi Shankar's life has been so methodically depicted...
This documentary outperforms in every segment.... the content, script, narration,cast,music,editing,cinematography....
"Overwhelming"!!
The best moments were when he met his 'Guru ma' Ustad Allauddin Khan's wife and she started weeping. At that time, He was separated from their daughter Smt.Annapurna Devi, another great musician, guru of Pt.Hariprasad Chaurasia, and Shankar looked really sad when he faced his 'Guru ma'....those emotions were real!!
Thanks to Mr. Howard Worth
One of the best documentaries I have ever seen.
