Mrs. Brown's Boys (2011)
Hilarious Irish Slapstick
I don't always feel like watching comedy, but it's about time for people to re-embrace some silly, old-fashioned sit coms that have no socially redeeming value, but just make you laugh! I especially love humor reminiscent of Benny Hill. I found this show by accident, and glad that I did...it's splendidly silly and naughty as only British/Irish comedy can be, and I'm glad that I did. It's also reminiscent of Robin Williams as Mrs. Doubtfire; who'da thunk a plain guy wearing a housedress could be so funny? You kinda cringe and don't want to laugh at all the gags and feckin' this and feckin' that; just go with it and have some fun! I laughed out loud (hard to do in today's environment) and I look forward to watching another episode!
The Small Hand (2019)
Never Had A Clue
I really like Douglas H. As an actor, which is why I wanted to give this a go; despite all the bad reviews. Right from the off I never understood the storyline. No, I didn't read the book; but the movie should stand on its own. Plus, nasty little "small-handed" ghosts never interest me. Too many story lines left dangling. This movie required too much involvement for too little reward. I am still plodding on to the bitter end, but it's just too uninteresting to hang in. Maybe I should read the book...I really enjoyed "Woman in Black," so maybe there's hope. But not for this production. It was promising, the scenery and atmosphere were spot-on. Sorry I couldn't like it.
Efterforskningen (2020)
Bored Me To Tears
I only entertained watching because of Pilou from Game of Thrones. He didn't even get as much screen time as I had hoped; but I was so bored by Episode 4 (actually Episode 2, ha ha) that I couldn't hang around to see more of him. Have to preface this by admitting that I HATE subtitles; but the actors were compelling enough that I gave it a go...until I was falling asleep. I am sure that this was a stellar foreign film; seriously, I couldn't wait to rush back to a Vera re-run. I tried; wanted to love it, but no. Perhaps I will feel compelled to revisit the series at some point in the future; but for now, I need a break...
The Terminal List (2022)
I Really Love Chris Pratt!
So happy that he finally found a vehicle that would allow him to shine...as a tough guy hero. He always makes me laugh (which I love); but this role let's him portray a real American good guy. The heroes we need more of in today's environment of evil.
The Staircase (2022)
Another Vile Murderer Gets Off
I was sickened by this show...not by the acting, which was great; but because the monstrous murderer is living free. I segued off to watch the documentary; and it was even more apparent that a wealthy apparent murderer (who bears a faint resemblance to bill gates) murdered his wife and got off. Honestly, I can't enjoy these shows when lawyers and their sycophants let evil rule and the guilty walk free. We live in disgusting times.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Best Show This Season
Hamish Linklater was absolutely splendid in his role as a Catholic priest. If he were an actual priest, I am sure people would flock to him for spiritual guidance. This show was a wonderful, original take on Catholicism and religious beliefs in general. I have watched it many times because the characters and storyline are so compelling. One of the best series that I have seen to date.
Making the Cut (2020)
Mask Stupidity
Having models wearing masks wnen no one else is, is so bloody stupid...but then, Hollyweird is extraordinarily stupid. What a bunch of BS. And perhaps with so many people unable to breathe properly, brain cells were being destroyed big time. Fashion? Absent. What were they thinking?? What an embarrassment for all involved.
