The Wind (1986)
"Great and Classy Thriller From The Eighties"!!!
An extremely underrated Thriller that deserves to be seen!Gosh...the acting in this movie was fantastic!Meg Foster is the real center point of this movie, her acting is top notch and she has a real amazing kind of beauty...wait till you see her eyes (iluminos blue)! She plays a novel writer of murder stories who leaves her husband for a small vacation, the location is a isolated Greek town called Monemvasia. The area is known for having extremely strong winds...and you have to lock yourself in at night and not go outside for dangerous reasons! After a while Alias (Meg Foster) gets to work on her book but is disturbed when she gets a visit from the handy man Phil! She knows from the second she meets him that there's something odd about him.Basically he is a killer...who wants to have fun in killing Alias because he knows that he can as there is no one else in the whole town because everyone (tourists) have left due to the weather! The movie is good because Meg Foster is great at acting...she does often talk to her self during the movie (which could have turned out badly if done by the wrong actress) but she does it perfectly and she really does become a likable character in this! What also stands out a lot is the location...wow how did the director manage to find a gigantic town that was completely deserted? Its a really cool area and has a very spooky feel off it!Whast also cool is the ending which ill let you find out for yourself...but perhaps with the ending there brings a supernatural theme to this movie...you'll know what i mean when you see it!This movie is actually also known as The Edge Of Terror over here in Ireland...but no matter which version you see in the shops...Just make sure to rent it...you wont be disappointed!!!
Black Roses (1988)
One Hell Of A Concert!!!
What a fun movie! This is one of those few horror movies out there that was based on Hard Rock music...the others being Hard Rock Zombies, Trick Or Treat and Rockin Roll Nightmare! This one has a bunch of demonic hard rockers coming to a town called Mill Basin to perform a concert. The adults of the town fear that the music might be bad for the children... and boy were they right! This film like so many other eighties horror films, has some really cool rock music...one of the best being "Road To Paradise" which the band plays on their first concert in the town. There's is also some pretty neat special effects...although their only really good in a fun way... i mean...they don't look realistic or anything but they're still enjoyable! This movie also has Sal Viviano as the lead rock singer of the band who has a really eighties "fine" haired mullet...some of the eighties fashions in this movie will give you a few chuckles but it just adds to the fun fell of the film! Some people might remember Sal Viviano as having starred in The Jitters...which was an insane but equally enjoyable Japanese based horror film!Watch out for the part where Mattthew the high school teacher is attacked by a cool looking demon at the end...it will give you a couple of laughs!!!Rent it for sure!!!
The Tomb (1986)
Cool Danger Boy Disco Scene!!!
This move rocked! It has everything you could want in an eighties American horror movie...cool humor, rock music and Michelle Baur! Well...Okay so there only one rock song ("Danger Boy") but that was one cool song.I especially loved the scene in the disco were that song was playing and Michelle Baur slowly creeps up on our main heroine...reminded me of that disco scene form Fright Night. There's also some cool special effects too, like in the end when Michelles true face is revealed...she looked really creepy...(not sure how her hair turned from blonde to brown for no apparent reason though!).The story is about a bunch of archaeologists who stumble upon an old tomb...but an evil mummified Egyptian (Michelle Baur) is awoken in the process...most of the guys are killed of except one...but can he stop her...only the final frame reveals all!!! Wicked movie...you've got to check it out!
Tong hau goo si (1986)
Cool And Underrated Movie!!!
Gosh...how didn't this movie do better...I'm actually very surprised there isn't even any site for this!Don't listen to the bad comments made about this movie, if you can get hold of it ...do!It kinda starts off like a eighteens cert ed version of The Karate Kid for the first half of the movie and then for the second...it is more like a mafia film like scarface.I have to say, if there's one fault in this movie it is the second half. The first half was brilliant but in the second half...our main hero sorta turns bad which is kinda a downer!Although for the first half the film is still worth watching anyway...it starts of with a young Asian guy who goes to new york with his brother. The minute he gets into school though trouble starts...there's this evil gang who wont leave him alone...so he decides to get his own team to fight against them! There are some memorable and likable scenes like when he goes into the laundry shop but forgot his ticket number...but the young girl feels in a generous mood and races him to find it in the shop...and they both seem to have fun chasing around trying to find it first...its sad when they leave each other! So all in all id say rent this movie (although it is hard to track down)!
Janghwa, Hongryeon (2003)
Wow...Now this is a good movie!!!
This has got to be one of the all time best movies ever made...yes i realize if you haven't seen this your probably thinking yeah right sure...but trust me...this is one of the most breath taking, beautiful and terrifying films ever.To be honest I'm not even really sure how to give the story line to this film without ruining it so i wont! But what i will say is that the acting in this film is so superb it makes all famous American actors look like crap!I'm a guy...and it takes a hell of a lot to make a guy cry or feel deep emotion but this movie really did effect me...it really does touch something deep down inside you! Also, this movie has to be one of the most beautiful and stylish looking things you'll ever see...most Dario Argento fans will have seen the film Suspiria which showcases bizarre and surreal but amazing colours...well this is the only other movie that will make effect you in a similar way because the colour is so amazing...and also because this is like a tale, there's flowers that appear everywhere...on clothes,on walls, and on normal items like the diary's and stuff! So with out any doubt...make sure to check this film out...for it by far my all-time favorite movie and one that deserves to be watched!!!
Street Hero (1984)
Street Hero Is an 80s classic!
I bought this film second hand for real cheap a couple of years ago... I was drawn in by the cool cover art that Medusa pictures made for it. Now, despite what everybody else says...this movie really isn't bad at all, its got great soundtrack, style and actors. The main actor Vince Colosimo is perfect as the good looking hero of the story and makes the character sympathetic as a tough guy who's just from the wrong side of the tracks and is really a nice guy!Watch out for the part were he hits one of his teachers in the face when she bullies him...cool scene! Also the song on the end credits "Every Beat Of My Heart" by Jon English is such a cool song. The only slight fault of this movie is that it is a tad too long but hey, we cant hold that against it... so my advice would be to get it despite of the bad comments from others...and definitely check it out if you love eighties style movies and eighties rock music cause there's tons of that cool stuff!!!I should also mention that this film is hard to come by but you should try get it one ebay because it is worth it.The story to it is about a young dude called Vinnie who does boxing in his spare time but keeps getting kicked out of school. His mother is going out with a real scumbag guy because the father died.He often beats her and Vinnie thinks hes no good for her!Vinnies mother asks him to join the school band because she thinks it will keep him busy and off the streets away from all the bad action and maybe help him with a future career! All during this film there is some really great music by rare rock bands like Dragon...some of the cool songs are "New Hero","Wilder World" and "No Angels Tonight" all of which are brilliant tunes that you'll find yourself humming them for the following couple of days!
