The New York Butcher (2016)
Worth a watch
If you're a fan of low budget horror films, this is one I'd say is worth your time, interesting premise that could have used a bigger budget and more time for better execution. Lowlights included, poor sound and uninspired cinematography. Highlights included, the music, special effects (considering the low budget), the performances of Sean Weathers and Sona Oren and the twist, which was well executed and didn't feel tacked on or unnecessary, once it's revealed everything still makes sense and it does help give what is otherwise or standard B-movie a re-watchable factor, I rented it for $2.99 on vimeo and decided to give it a second watch before my rental time ran out and it was better the second time around.
Scumbag Hustler (2014)
Best Sex Comedy Ever
Laughter and sex is something that usually don't go together well, no matter what girls say about just wanting a guy who's funny. They want a guy that's hot, not a guy that makes them laugh. Both is nice for both sexes, but rare just like in films. Scumbag Hustler is on of those rare films. Very low budget, but honestly I can't think of anything I wanted this film to do or anything this film tried to do that more money would have changed things that much more for the better? Better actors or name actors wouldn't do the graphic sex scenes this film calls for and a bigger budget would have taken away from he guerrilla style that makes this film work. There were a lot of scenes shot in stores, fast food places and apartment buildings in which it's clear there was no permission given to the filmmakers to shoot there. This film just works, it made me laugh, the sex scenes looked extremely graphic and they had to have been real, pausing the film a few times, I did see actually penetration. So without giving much away, if this sounds like it's up your alley it probably is, if it doesn't that's pretty much all there is to the film. Thin on plot, but well executed and well acted, especially by the lead, Sean Weathers. Awesome job!
Maniac Too! (2013)
Sick film
This movie is part of a 4 film collection on the 'Vault of Terror' DVD, honestly I don't think my review would be hugely positive if it wasn't, because it's a little short for a feature coming in at a little over 40 minutes and it doesn't seem to have any scripted dialogue, clearly this was not the intended final version. With that said, this is a very entertaining watch and the classical music score was a nice touch, contrasting with all of the brutal rapes scenes in the film. It's almost a meditational film in a way, so in that way the lack of dialogue is a good thing. I don't think this film comes alone, so as long as you get it as part of the Vault of Terror set, with 3 other movies, you can't go wrong. Great value, entertaining flick.
Day of the Woman (1978)
Classic
What to say about this film that hasn't been said already? Obviously we're not in 1978 and the impact of the the infamous rape same has been muted by todays standards of shock and tolerance. Look no further than 'A Serbian Film' with it's baby porn. However the scene is still jarring and the performances are all good across the board. The story is basic but effective and even as basic as it is it has been used over and over and over again since then. Most notably in 'They All Must Die!' you just simply take out the rednecks and swap in street thugs, you take out the back woods and you put in the ghetto. Point being this film has clearly influenced another generation of filmmakers and is still talked about today in circles of film buffs for a reason. So with that said, if you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting for?
