Nothing new in Miami
22 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I think that if I had to present that movie I would be ashamed. Cast is good but the story is weak and poorly integrated in same old "iraq style" combat scenes...

The worst point is that they "recycled" visuals and concepts from masterpieces like Alien and Starship Troopers, producing another of those boring militaresque soup movies where aliens are funnily fighted with millions of uneffective bullets!

Aliens are there a hybrid of Alien creature with Doc Oc tentacles and velociraptors moves.

Unexisting Sountrack is poor and ordinary too.

Watching on that painfully boring movie I was thinking: After 30 years and 1000 similar movies, it is time to stop calling "US weaponry demo shows" Sci-Fi movies!

Good Sci-Fi movies are another thing.

Almost a cult movie!
30 January 2023
This weird western could have been a masterpiece but was totally ravaged by a criminal cut and music randomly chopped everywhere.

Despite those painful moments, there are some real cult scenes that could delight Tarantino' fans.

It is as if there were three personalities inside the same movie.

The first, is the classic westerns one that in 1967 was yet obsolete, with goodwill heroes and not so villain villains.

The second is a weird spaghetti western style one (brave for a 67 american production) with pathetic fights between villains that wanted to be funny. The fights of Bud and Hill in "Trinita'" were still to come.

The third "personality" inside this movie is the most interesting one, with shocking unespected pure violence acts among characters that surprise us and slowly bring spectator deeper into their mental sickness and disturbing will not to stop (personal) war. This long before Peckinpah or Leone.

Absolutely innovative for the times. Strong and interesting storyline plot, deserved a much better production too.

When Jerry Cala' make "serious" movies

Very particular locations for an interesting movie which want to tell us that even worst enemies can become best friends when life conditions become harsh. An always great Angelo Infanti there.

A fascinating travel into insanity..
5 October 2019
This movie like all masterpieces is hard to class or define. The slow "Taxi Driver" descent in hell of the most gentle pathetic and lonely human being in this "pre Giuliani" styled Gotham, becomes inversely proportional to his charismatic political influence rising among all its more desperate citizens.

Those both methamorphosis are described in a fluent and magistral way. The birth of Joker's clown masked followers is so credible to remind real revolutions and viral birth of protests of recent years, like Anonimous or European "Gilet Jaunes"..

After an almost perfect movie the lasts TV show scenes instead of being the top climax of a crescendo take away somehow strenght to the movie. This part could maybe have been developed in a better way.

Joaquin Phoenix is undoubtfully unbeatable for those roles and will get an oscar for it.. but Heath Ledger's Joker ghost remains always present there in our memories, absolutely unforgettable...

This movie is a disturbing, sad, violent but thanks to a great Joachin Phoenix, fascinating travel into insanity.

The Tarantino effect..
3 October 2019
This movie let you exit from the theater with an exited enthousiastic mood lasting many days... like an euphoric drug. Any spectator can't help after seeing it wanting to create or be part of a project like this one!

Quentin build with maniacal precision an entire legendary world and realised for an other time the miracle to transmit with positive contagion his love for cinema.

Full of evocative music, stories nested into the story and small situations and characters that let you wonder about human condition.. Lots of movies world references magically inserted by the maestro give real joy to experts.

Some said that there could be lack of a plot but the similarity with Fellini's La Dolce Vita kind of storytelling structure is obvious. Moreover the suspense is growing during all the movie, like today only Tarantino is able to do.. No need to have a plot when he is playing with your mind and anything can happen at anytime... and you know it.. Thank you Quentin! You are the only Director to give us "trips" in great "parallel worlds" like this!!
