The Wonder (2022)
A good story pity the wrong location
I enjoyed the film it does draw you in from the start but I think the story should have been based more on the true story of the little Welsh girl Sarah Jacobs 1857-1869 not on the book that placed her in Ireland
She became famous as the Welsh Fasting girl and died after 6 nurses did a 24 hour vigil around her bed to see if she would eat.
The true story is more interesting and so many avenues that could have been explored. However I did enjoy the film the two main characters were well played, the scenery was dark and gloomy and it ended more happily for the little girl and her parents than the true story.
Your Christmas or Mine? (2022)
Christmas is being with someone else's family
How refreshing! Not too sugary sweet although I don't know where they got the snow from. A great cast of characters. It was good to see a house over trimmed instead of looking like a hotel, Hayley's house looked like a home. I enjoyed the story line although it was predictable at times, there were moments when I laughed out loud. James looked lost at first and found it funny what they thought his name was. Good cast with some great British actors.
I enjoyed that the film was showing the opposite sides of the class divide yet everything turned out well in the end. It did warm the cockles of my heart.
The Suspect (2022)
The Suspect...suspenseful?
I enjoyed it but what is it with these TV Dramas? Nearly every one of these dramas you see, you know that someone on the peripheral is involved.
Have to admit I started watching because of Aidan Turner. His portrayal of the main character trying to come to terms with his illness and attempting to manage it under the stressful circumstances was believable. The plot is good enough to get sucked in and I did watch until the end.
Bobby Schofield as Booby Moran stole the show for me. You knew that his mental state was due to a dark secret in his past.
The only thing I wasn't in much suspense until the last episode I was more intrigued.
Mr. Jones (2019)
A true Hero
Just wish I'd been taught about this amazing man in school years ago
A true hero in my eyes not afraid to expose the truth
James Norton gives a great performance + gets the accent right. A tragic story wished more people had taken notice of what he was seeing, saying + predicting. The Holodomor killed millions a tradegy in epic proportions.
Don't Look Up (2021)
The U.S.A is not enough
Enjoyed the film in a way but why is it always the U. S. A. Waking up to a major disaster that would end the world ?
I am sure that other countries scientists would rally together it wouldn't just be 3 from the U. S.
Reach for the Sky (1956)
Of its time
I haven't seen this film since I was a kid but watched today.
Nice to see all the old actors I remember from childhood. Do think although the story of how courageous Douglas Bader was this film is of its time. The clipped English accents give that away.
One Chance (2013)
Nice story shame about JCordens accent
Enjoyed this film I was surprised how much.
Great story of overcoming bullies, bad review by Pavarotti and finding the love of his life. But James Corden's accent
was more West Country than Welsh.
Rag Tale (2005)
Great cast ...crap camera work
Why is every scene filmed at an angle I can do better filming on my smartphone. Makes me feel seasick so didn't watch it all the way through.
Blinded by the Light (2019)
Pity they get some years wrong
Enjoyed this film mainly cos I'm a big 'The Boss' fan but what shocked me was when Javed wants a job in the market with Matt's Dad and Matt's dad says he saw Springsteen in 91 ? Why wasn't that scene reshot.
Closing the Ring (2007)
A Gem
I"m surprised that 13 years on I have never seen this film. It's a gem of a film dealing with love and loss and adds a sense of danger with the troubles in N.I. Christopher Plummer and Shirley Maclaine give sensitive performances. A Film that captures a moment in time with flashbacks to 1941. Highly recommend because you don't end up in floods of tears
A Dog's Purpose (2017)
Would never leave this dog out
A surprising good watch. I recorded this as it was on daytime TV. A really good family film. Makes you laugh out loud, cry and be glad you are alive. Really enjoyed and highly recommend but only for viewers over 10 or you'll be bombarded with questions from 7 years plus early on.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)
Cross between Bond and The Man From Uncle
Loved it, full of action, comedy and swoon three British actors I'd invite for a sleepover, just wish Kingsmen were fact not fiction then we may get an antidote to Covid
It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
A must see Christmas film
I think I was only 7 when I 1st saw this film as a child I remembered the angel and the fun parts. When I saw it later as a teenager I was hooked. It's my favourite Christmas film. I have to watch it every year near Christmas to get my fix to last till another Christmas. This film has everything, great story, great acting and a wonderful ending. I know why I have to put little ringing bells on my Christmas tree every year.
Anthropoid (2016)
A must see
It's a brilliant biographical film. Highly emotive. I was crying at the end. Great acting by the two leading men. There are some scenes that I had to turn my head away the thought that people actually treated and do treat others this way was upsetting but had to watch till the end.
Beauty and the Beast (2017)
Better than the cartoon
Can't understand all the negative reviews. I find this so much better than the cartoon. If I was a kid I know which version I prefer and it's this one. Much better seeing real people as the main chatecters and the animation is brilliant. An amazing cast bring all the chatecters to life... Enjoyed immensely
The House of Magic (2013)
Underated
A good film, underrated. My granddaughters 7 + 4 watched this yesterday and enjoyed every moment. It opens dramatically but that didn't frighten them. It's a tale with an old man who befriends the cat and his magical toys he uses to entertain and keep him company. The granddaughters found it funny, entertaining with some life lessons about friendship.
Line of Duty (2012)
Simply unmissable
Watching the 1st series again as BBC in their wisdom are screening all 4 series and on iplayer. Brilliant story lines and great cast totally addictive
Marvellous (2014)
Marvelous is the right word
Such a heartwarming film. Brilliant performances from Toby Jones and Gemma Jones. An uplifting film telling a true story of a man with a learning disability after watching his story I think his only disability is that he loves people.
The Leisure Seeker (2017)
Beautiful movie
Beautiful movie with moving performances from Helen Mirren and Donald Sutherland. Anyone who has dealt with dementia in any form can relate to this although I thought the ending was predictable. Enjoyed this film although I think anyone under 40 won't be able to relate to it.
