In the Heights (2021)
No la la land or 42nd st
It was long and labored, it was a movie where the people hated yheir life and america's strong backbone. I saw it as a movie that took shpts at the country and anyone or thing that was involving work or having to earn thimgs. A real bad message for ypith and onner cities. The college student saod she was asled to take a tray to the kitchen, how quaint. Getting tired of this. Its not divided, i grew up in a melting pot. Now its not.
Indianapolis Speedway (1939)
a great picture that I could watch again and again...
Although this was a remake as the 3 other reviewers cite, it was well done with refreshing portrayals by Ann Sheridan, and Gail Page. Pat O'Brian? please, he's a genius. in the thirties, unlike today, the oldest sibling did take up for the family more often than not, in fact my grandfather turned down a chance to go to college (notre dame) because his father passed away and he went to work to support his mom and siblings. I think the train scene early on set the tone of what kind of guy Joe is and then when seeing his brother not in school, who could blame him for being upset. This movie is a wild ride with great old racing footage, including a (non fatal in real life) fiery crack up that was actually a driver named Friday from the mid-west. I loved the cast and I loved the movie, the two, The Crowd Roars & this one are in a virtual dead heat at the finish line.
Man About Town (1939)
very very delightful comedy and musical
without getting into all the downer reviews, I watched this movie and delighted in the characters...Jack Benney was funny, Phil Harris was great, Dottie Lamour was THE girl of 1939, she is alluring, exotic, classy, and sings like an angel. Betty Grable is gorgeous and Edward Arnold and Monty Wooley do superb supporting comedy characters. The show becomes very memorable when they show the stage acts. The singing is terrific and Eddie Anderson (Rochester) is the true highlight. He is on of the greatest hoofers I have ever seen, he is graceful and modern. The chorus lines were full of great routines and beauty. I bought the movie and I'd buy it again. I could easily give it a 10 but it didn't have enough Lamour.
