Murder Mystery 2 (2023)
LAME and UNoriginal
I see that a few Netflix shills are giving this movie 7 or higher. If any regular person who watched this drek tjinks it's a good movie, they have very low expectations. Jennifer Anniston is at her botox-inected worst here, and somebody needs to remind Adam Saldler that he's almost 60 years old, so the dyed black hair and just-for-men beard dye looks as fake as the colonel's cgi missing arm. Mark Strong gives it his all in any role that he is cast, so kudos to him for sticking it out.
This movie has no continuity, it's just a mndless series of dialogues with no semblance of a plot. No wonder it's a Netflix production, cause nobody would pay to see it in cinemas.
Reign of Chaos (2022)
Say what??!!
I don't know where to begin. I was lucky enough to not have to pay for this dreck and unlucky enough to catch the first half on-line for free. All I have to say is that there are so many actors in the world that need to get their break. Unfortunattely, signing on for something like this won't help them, it'll only pay their bills temporarily. But what can you expect from people that produced knock-offs (Jurassic Island,of other great movies (Jurassic Island,Exorcist Vengeance).
In short, I believe that first year film students that are struggling to pass can produce a better movie than this using a smartphone.
Northern Pursuit (1943)
Not one of the better Flynn vehicles, but moe than watchable
Okay, a couple of things: Errol Flynn, playing Steve Wagner was around 33 when this movie was filmed, much too old to be playing a corporal in the RCMP, he shoud have at least been a Staff Sergeant or Sergeant Major. In any event, as a Canadian, I enjoyed many of the location scenes, even though most of the movie was filmed on the WB lot, as most of them were. Gene Lockhart, who had also starred with Flynn a couple of years before in 'The Died with their Boots on' was miscast in this, in my opinion. He just didn't seem convincing as a German saboteur. Helmut Dantine made quite a career of playing Nazis, and 27 years later he would still play a Nazi General in an episode of Night Gallery 1n 1970 called 'The Devil is not Mocked'. Lm.
The Unforgivable (2021)
The Unbelievable
There is no way that a 56-year old Sandra Bullock can pass for an older sister to a 5 year-old little girl. Even if she didn't look her age, which she does, plastic surgery and botox aside, the age gap is improbable. It would have made so much more sense for her to play the mother.
The pacing of the film was ridiculously slow, and it seemed like the actors, despite being top-notch, were going through the motions.
Overall, I was expecting a lot better from this type of cast, but then again, who directed this clusterfluff? I've never heard of her.
Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE 10 YEARS AGO
I can't think of any actor in recent history that has maintained consistent interest in iconic characters than Sylvester Stallone. Both Rocky Balboa and John Rambo are characters that have been around for 43 and 37 years, respectively.
Having said that, here are a few of my nitpicks with 'Rambo: Last Blood':
We all know that Sly has undergone appearance-altering surgery, as well as hair implants, which is fine. But his face looks too much like the actor and not the character, if that makes any sense. Surely the make-up department could have done something about his eyebrows and generally given him an 'older' appearance? I know that both Sly and John Rambo are well into their 70's by now, which would make having the same long hairstyle seem out of place. But I still think that he should have grown his hair out a little more, in order to give him the more unkempt look that Rambo has always had.
The plot itself was pretty straight-forward, and quite predictable. It was honestly an amalgamation of too many movies, particularly 'Taken'.
As mentioned above, Sly is in his early 70's and despite the cosmetic surgery, his age cannot be dismissed as an important factor. This film should have been made right after 'Rambo', which would have made it a little more credible.
The Maltese Falcon (1941)
Classic!
To me, in order for a movie to be considered a masterpiece, it has to be flawless. Over the years, I have intentionally looked for weaknesses in this film, but to this day, I have come up empty-handed. Everything falls perfectly into place, from the dark, bleak, San Francisco setting, to the stereotypical, yet effective 'coppers', to each and every character. It's as if everybody involved in the making of this film knew they had a winner, and took it upon themselves to give a performance of a lifetime. Then there's Bogey...slick, cool, calculating and witty. This line from the movie had my then girlfriend and myself howling when I saw it for the first time: Cairo: "You always seem to have a smooth explanation handy!" Spade: "What do you want me to do, learn to stutter?" Classic, nuff said!
