Eli Roth Presents: The Legion of Exorcists (2023)
Such Ridiculousness...!!!
This is THE WORST representation of what an exorcist and exorcism are all about. These people are not even ORDAINED clergy...!!! They are actors portraying as such and they are doing an terrible job at it. Much less i find it VERY blasphemous that these people are even trying too come off as "real clerics". It makes a mockery of what is a DEADLY serious topic and spits in the faces of those who have suffered from the devil. Such as the German girl Anneliese Michel of which the movie Exorcism of Emily Rose was loosely based on. It also does no justice too ACTUAL exorcists such as father Gabriele Amorth. Point is if your going too make a mockery of the devil that's EXACTLY what he wants you too do. So in that respect this TV series accomplishes that perfectly. But if you want too actually LEARN about what really goes on. Put forth the time, effort, and research in educating the masses PROPERLY...!!! Total garbage and i HIGHLY do not recommend. Shame on you Eli Roth.
Apparitions (2008)
Excellent series about one's faith
I enjoyed this series very much. It was far more then just about exorcisms. It was how evil can corrupt even those of the highest clergy. It also said A LOT about the Catholic faith and how even through their strict guidelines/practices they don't always get it right. It's really about trusting your inner voice the one that speaks too you in doing the right thing. Despite whatever protocols are in place or rules you may need too break. Evil is everywhere in this world and it's up too us and the free will that the lord gave us. In whether we make the right or wrong choices. Overall i thought it was very well done and i'm disappointed it didn't get picked up for a second season or longer. I have a feeling that many Catholics didn't like the stain the series left on their faith. And perhaps that's the reason it got cancelled. But better too bring forth THE TRUTH then hide as they have for years in the shadows...(g)
The Terror (2018)
Great series about our nation's history & it's mistakes...
As everyone else has written on here season 1 was VERY well done. Great acting, and a completely horrific tragedy that happened too the sailors. However, i can't stand the bashing for season 2. First off, i think it's because many folks couldn't understand what was being said. Go too a website that has subtitles when you watch this and it will transcribe the Japanese into English for you. Since they didn't provide subtitles for this second season something they should have done. However, the story itself and acting was VERY well done. It's basically how this nation treated Japanese American's after the Pearl Harbor attacks. And the suffering and overall hell they went through living in this nation. It's a history lesson just like the first season with a horror twist. The only difference is the second season was something our nation SHOULD NOT be proud of. And i think that's where some folks struggle too understand this tragic story. Many of us have little room for any sympathy or empathy when we are at war. And a race of different people are living in our nation. Need i remind us that while what the Japanese did was horrific. What we did in retaliation too there country was FAR, FAR, worse. And they suffered for years from radiation poisoning as did their children. The bottom line is we went WAY too far committing such atrocities on another country. And it's the reason why Japan today doesn't believe nor have nuclear weapons. And honestly, can you blame them...? So unlike others on here reviewing season 2 i give it 10 stars. Well acted and depicted during a horrible time in this nation.
Move to Heaven (2021)
Extremely touching K-Drama
I've watched A LOT of Asian dramas over the years. And this one pulled at my heart so much. I just lost my mom last year too pancreatic cancer. So this really got the tears flowing for me. The acting was superb, and story throughout was very well written for each episode. It flowed very nicely in my opinion. I'd like too see more Asian dramas like this one. Just a solid story of caring and compassion. And understanding individuals with mental challenges and how they see things most of us take for granted. Do yourself a favor and watch this series it will warm the coldest of hearts without question.
Monster (2022)
Excellent yet CHILLING portrayl from Peters...!!!
I typically don't write reviews. But i have too say Evan Peters is JEFFREY DAHMER. Everything from his midwest accent, down too his mannerisms, he is a perfect fit for this role.
Now being a gay man myself and out too a very supportive family. I must say that their were SO MANY "red flags" where Jeff could have received the help he needed too "come out" and deal with his obsessions with the macabre. He was crying out for help and know one was listening. Let me be perfectly clear here. I DO NOT condone what he did on ANY LEVEL. As he definitely had deep psychological problems. But i do believe with a different upbringing and more "understanding" parents things may have gone differently for him.
The true moral of this story folks is too make sure your listening too your kids. And i mean TRULY listening when they come too you and want to talk. Jeff didn't have this and resorted too heavy drinking which only made his psychological problems even worse. If he were able too talk with a psychiatrist and be put on the proper medication. I think his sanity and soul could have been saved. Their is a part of me that feels very sorry for him that he didn't have access too this kind of help.
When you examine the first few episodes you see a father encouraging him in behavior that was "abnormal". Picking up roadkill and cutting it open only deepened his fascination with the macabre. And in turn worsened his psychological welfare. So in that regard YES i blame the father for getting him interested in such abnormal activities. He also couldn't handle the divorce and that is when he immediately needed counseling. Because he spiraled out of control from that point forward.
The bottom line here is people can be "saved" if they have the proper channels and outlets. Even if they are incapable of seeing themselves changing for the better. As an outsider one must still try and exhaust all efforts too save that individual from such psychological torment. Jeff had none of those outlets. And it's a shame that his life turned out the way it did. He certainly was born gay but i don't believe he would have done the monstrous things he did. If it wasn't influenced on him at such an early stage from his dad. So i hold him accountable for part of his issues. Upbringing and good parenting skills are vital too ANY child's outcome as they reach adulthood. All in all an EXCELLENT performance of a truly troubled soul that was desperately crying out for help.
Child's Play (2019)
Terrible Reboot Of A Franchise...
When Child's Play first came out back in 1988 it was a terrifying film. I love horror films but especially dislike creepy doll films. You had a doll that was FAR ahead of it's time. In terms of it's capabilities and what it could do. Add too that element a "possessed doll" via a Voodoo curse and it's all the scarier. That all said, something was just "off" with this reboot of Child's Play that i couldn't get into. Don't get me wrong here i tried my hardest NOT too compare this version to the original. But even when doing so i still felt like the various scene sequences were rushed and lacking in overall suspense. My hat's off too Mark Hamill being chosen as the voice actor for Chucky as he is just as talented as Brad Dourif was in the original. However, i think what killed this film for me was the pacing of it and too many kids involved helping Andy. It should have just been Andy and Chucky like the original without their involvement. Also, i'm quite old school being in my 40's so i'm not used too this whole AI doll thing and the CGI elements this film had. Granted the original Chucky was allegedly a robotic doll just the same. But he was flesh and blood once the soul of Charles Lee Ray possessed the doll and that made him all the more terrifying. Here we just had a doll whose program was rewritten too do bad things. Now that all said, it's obvious their will be a sequel too this film. But i'd REALLY like the director to do away with the AI intelligence concept. And somehow turn Chucky into flesh and blood again. Having a robotic doll just point his finger for certain objects too do his dirty work isn't creepy. It's just downright lazy and totally takes away the horror element of the actual doll doing all the killing. Chucky did EVERYTHING himself in the original and that's what made him seem unstoppable. Plus, and in closing, i can't see how can they even get away with doing a sequel. When this was a totally robotic doll. At least the original version had the curse going for it along with Chucky's blood too continue producing new Chucky's in the subsequent films that followed. So my final rating is B for effort and picking a great voice actor too be Chucky. However, a solid D for execution and how it all fit together.
Dracula (2013)
NBC please give the fans a season 2...!!!
Personally...I absolutely LOVE Dracula. With so many "TV series" type shows out there today this show definitely got my FULL attention. I think Johnathan Rhys Meyers is doing a FANTASTIC job as the "dark prince". And after i watched the season 1 finale the other night it most certainly & obviously ended with a season 2 being planned. I HOPE to high heaven i'm right about that because there were "rumors" going around that the ratings were so bad NBC was undecided on giving it another season. Plus, this network (NBC) has had a REALLY "bad habit" of just canceling shows very abruptly. Even if a first season finale clearly indicates there will be a second season. Also, may folks who have commented on this show don't particularly care for it's time slot. Which may have something to do with the show's ratings and NBC's hesitation/confusion on renewing it. So to those folks out there who feel that way your clearly forgetting this show is "graphic" and rated TV-14. Therefore, helping our younger children from having nightmares etc...But even if the "time slot" is not the reason and it's more to do with being on to late for folks to watch it and then end up missing it. So to those folks i say this haven't you ever heard of DVR or watching it on Xfinity OnDemand to get yourselves caught up...? Quite honestly, I LOVE the 10-11pm time slot so one would think those folks out there who work late have a FAR greater chance of watching it the same day instead of DVRing or OnDemanding it. So the "bottom line" here and pay close attention any NBC Executives that might read this is you've got a REAL winner here in this TV series. So to "can it" now would be a VERY bad decision especially since you left the season 1 finale WIDE OPEN...!!! Your viewers are now EXPECTING a continuation or season 2 from this show so PLEASE don't let us down. Quite frankly, i haven't been this captivated by a TV series since "Dark Shadows" back in the 70's. And of course lets not forget the "reboot" NBC themselves did in the early 90's with Ben Cross playing Barnabus Collins which i thought was done VERY VERY well. At least my other favorite TV series Sleepy Hollow on FOX WILL be getting a second season come this fall of 2014 as it was announced right after it's 2hr finale. So what i suggest or propose doing is replay ALL of Dracula season 1 in a "marathon format" no more than a month before season 2 commences. This way it will get it's following viewers and any NEW ones "refreshed" and anxious for the second season to begin. The bottom line here is i don't mind if you switch the show's time or even the day as i'm quite sure A LOT of fans would agree with me on that. What i DO MIND is canceling the show altogether and then once again you've let your viewers down by doing so. Furthermore, if your that "adamant" about not continuing it on your network for whatever reason then sell the damn show to another network that WOULD benefit from it's ratings. And gladly pick it up where it left off and provide it's fans with a season 2 and hopefully many more seasons after that.
Mermaids: The New Evidence (2013)
Don't be fooled folks...(g)
I watched both of these programs "the original" and am in the middle of this new one as i type this dubbed "The New Evidence". I've ALWAYS been fascinated by the "paranormal" or unknown if you will. But for these folks and more importantly the Animal Planet channel to even remotely project this is genuinely sound footage is ridiculous. Now all that said, if you want to watch a great "fictitious program" or anything like it for that matter that comes off as being "legit" than by all means you'll enjoy it immensely if your into this sort of thing. But i'm really really ashamed of Animal Planet to put together something like this because i've always considered there programming educational and informative. I've been in the avian field now I.E. (the study of birds) for nearly 30yrs now having field experience with both wild & exotic pet species. I've worked with a countless number of species including parrots of which i own 6 species myself. So in saying that, i have a pretty damn good eye or feel for something that is reported "legit" or it ending up being fake. Don't feel your gullible folks if you believed this, because it was put together that way on purpose. However, all you have to do is look up online these names of these characters for example, the marine biologist or the UK District Officer for there Coastguard. And you'll come to find that these names simply DO NOT exist nor do there positions. So bottom line folks, enjoy the programming but don't be a sucker because there absolutely NO legitimacy to these programs what so ever. HOWEVER, ask me about AREA 51 and if something really did happen in Roswell in 1947 and if my government has been concealing this all these years. Well then...Now we can talk about something with some "legitimacy"....(g)
Side Effects (2013)
A rather upsetting flick for me to digest.....
OK...So i decided to finally watch this film thinking it would be a nice addition to the other "thrillers" i've seen in the past. Well let me just say folks that i took MAJOR offense to this movie. And i'll tell you ALL why since this is certainly NOT going to be your "typical" movie review. So folks, all i ask of everyone who reads this is to bare with me here since it's quite lengthy in nature. However, at the same time it's EXTREMELY important to me "personally speaking" to stress this to everyone out there. I have suffered with social anxiety my entire life, i've never had an easy time of meeting new people whether it be making new friends or having a successfully long-term relationship with anyone. Movies like this i personally feel "paint" REAL people like myself in a bad light who are struggling with there disease on a daily basis. For one thing, i wouldn't wish what i have to deal with each and every single day on my worst enemy. I am a prisoner of my own home as i've been a recluse for the last 3yrs and certainly NOT by choice. I have no friends to turn to my parents are aging and very much near deaths door and when there gone i truly will have know one to turn to. My animals are my only "solace" right now god bless them and i thank god each and everyday for putting them into my life. But enough about my own "issues" the reason i take offense to this movie is because we continue to live in a society that seems to think "physical disabilities" are the only tangible afflictions that exist. And that mental disabilities or let me be more precise "emotional disorders" such as; severe anxiety, social phobias, OCD, bi-polar disorder, & schizophrenia among MANY others are the clear signs of some wacko that should be locked up in some mental prison and forgotten about. What folks like myself have to go through and the medication we are on is NO laughing matter. You live each and everyday of your life as a prisoner of your own mind holding you hostage. You try to gain everyone's acceptance and approval and to just "fit in" but you know you can't because of your disorder/s in the sad case your dealing with more than one. Personally, i deal with two and that is moderate OCD and social anxiety and it's enough to deal with that has made me afraid to meet people and leave my home because of negative ridicule from the way society views movies like this one. This women in the film took a particular medication for her condition and it caused her to kill her husband. So now everyone out there gets re-affirmed by this movies message that folks taking medication like this are unfit for society and should be forgotten about and warned to stay away from. Why not make a movie about the REAL everyday struggles that folks like myself have to deal with...? Why constantly emphasize that physical disabilities garner more attention and sympathy than emotional ones ever could. It just really frosts me when movie directors want to make money off of someone else's REAL everyday problems that A LOT of folks in this country of ours face each and every day of there lives. To be perfectly honest, I HATE taking medication and YES i do have "side affects" from having to take it because my brain is "chemically imbalanced" and has been since birth. But is that something to mock or make fun of...? To know you won't ever be able to live your life the way you wish you could or that you only see in your dreams when your asleep. There are times folks, when i don't even get out of bed everyday because my depression hurts me so bad physically speaking. And also, because i perhaps just had one of those nice dreams of wishing i had another "ordinary life" like everyone else and wanted to relish in that moment instead of waking up to the hell i deal with internally everyday.
