The Boys (2019)
Well done Amazon
A good solid 9/10 for the first 3 episodes so far continuing the mayhem of the first season .
All the characters come back ,you are left we a sense of exposure for the superheroes and the humans at Vought. Who are running a massive cover-up.
Unforgettably brutal moments leading to the most vivid bloodbaths.
The Order (2019)
Well ..it has its moments except for the typical dumb blonde.
MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT
Really like the show it has alot going for it. It has it all, action, werewolves, witches, magic etc.
Apart from a Blonde love interest who is a EVIL loser and a violator of other women BUT EVEN WORSE the dumbest person ever to have the gift of powerful magical energy.SO dumb she was that if anyone showed interest in her she would just get on her knees metaphorically. She never learned from HER initial error even though she was warned.
So when she dies at the end i cheered.I did not feel anything for her.
Colony (2016)
Its surprisingly very good
This is a good sci-fi show TV without crazy sci-fi set pieces. yes, you don't see aliens -- at first. I won't spoil it but the WIFE is an idiot. In episode 10 she makes a series of decisions that lead 100s of people to their deaths..and apparently she is ok with it...lol
Terrible character
Raising Dion (2019)
concept good ...execution poor
The child was running wild. Also his mother is a using... dumb... cow.
That poor Pat guy really likes her..she just used him as a baby sitter, moral guidance, tech support...basically a surrogate father.Except when she talks , she is in charge... but needs a man and shes on the phone lol.
I know the story made him evil but that was RUBBISH.He was too intelligent for her..IN fact her husband was definitely out of her league..No way a physicist mates and breeds with a failed medic and a STUPID mentally MESSY DANCER.
LOOKS are only useful as a lure...but living with an idiot ( i can do it all alone, even though i have average intelligence) has a limited shelf life.
She is a BAD confused mother..her child is still young but NEVER listens to her or has been guided to use his intelligence, thinking, puzzle training or even emotional control. Also she is making him a user too.....he used/screwed over his only true friends to get more popular ones he is only 8 or 9 yep another one bites the dust.
All the women he hooks up with seem to be WEAK THICK SELFISH HUMANS.He should have dated his own kind...and by that i mean scientists/engineers.
She talks about boundaries BUT she used him without really setting a boundary.i.e not looking for a relationship just a friend talk. But she is so confused ergh ...why do they write "certain" women this way.The prettier they are dumber they are.
Other than that typical children's stuff. The stuff dragged the show down..(Who writes this stuff)
The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco (2018)
Not bad ,not great
It isn't as good as the first two British seasons. But they tried.
The problem is the American need to cover social and political change over the puzzle solving..The two american women tried hard but they unfortunately were placed in the position of being a colour and a sexual orientation. And also being written alittle bland.
So it didn't have the S.Holmes like punch of the first two seasons. But as the episodes moved on it got alot better. But not a patch on the first two UK ones.
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Thor goes daylight blade runner/guardians
I thought this film was great!!! now the addition of sexy Jeff Goldblum didn't hurt but i have a few questions...why did Odin move from this plane of existence? no one knows..is death for an asguardian the same as for any other humanoid?
You can either asked serious comic question or just enjoy the film. Its light hearted but it moves Thor's story on abit .I love it!!! the Valkyrie and the Hulk were great additions . I don't want to spoil too much so go watch it..or rent it!!
Memoirs of a Geisha (2005)
Interesting take on the horror of being a girl in Japan
The film was shot well ,,great music to set the seen and a beautiful backdrop of early 1900s Japan.
Now for the horror part her parents sold the geisha house without a word. The girl are treated as robots that fulfil mens desires without going to far.
The shear disgust in selling your virginity to apparently elevate you to a full geisha standing. Which clearly turns the young girls involved cold and dead inside. As can be seen from Gong Li's character. So sad and angry at her life she became cruel .And i cannot blame her.
Also the beautiful lie which i enjoyed seeing the "training" of young girls to become elite feminine machines.Indicating it not innate in young girls to behave that way its a performance. so what is considered feminine IS a LIE everywhere.
Not just in the west. In Asia also it is drummed and taught rather than it being nature.Lie after Lie ...until women wear these masks in general like a brainwashed cult member.
But apart from that its all sad. No real skills sets just looking for the right man to take you away from all of this.
SHAME
Altered Carbon (2018)
An interesting dark world if not for the parts that were dumbed down
I like Blade Runner and Dune, I generally prefer real sci-fi over most genres as it makes you think usually about the human condition but over the last 10years the amount of glossy but shallow stories being made or butchered to death on the editing room floor..Have left me in retro land.
But altered carbon exceeded my expectation for the most part. With the typical new lets turn our actors into soft porn star part.I mean nothing is left to the imagination now as a girl seeing Joel in his glory wasn't bad..but i would prefer to think about what i am watching rather than getting off.
I have not read the books , but this feels like a decent adaption for a tale that spans 1000s of years and has alot of advanced technology. Not too many frequent flash backs and it is difficult to convey "past lives" type concepts well. The efficiency of how the crucial info are delivered, the fluidity, very, very rare, and very appreciated.
Violence is graphic, but a necessity. Lots of sex scenes and nudity. Strong cast. The underrated Joel Kinnaman's Kovac is excellent formative, substance, and has great emotional range.
The police woman is as she is meant to be ...Annoying racially stereotypical and clearly not a good detective that's not the actresses fault its the dialogue and plotline. Her screen time was why i marked it down one point. Also the one life issue IE faith people only wanting to live till natural death and its against god's plan rubbish if there is a God none of us can comprehend his plan CLEARLY...
I know faith systems are taking alot of heat these days. But besides having faith, people are also scientists,Drs,lawyers and everything else ..Yet this is turned abit simplistically into a sheep like obedience which is unfortunate .So no deep analysis there.
Other than that i think its worth a watch.Stylistic beauty no doubt.
This is a well thought out and produced very well.
As If I Am Not There (2010)
Very disturbing but i guess the tip of the iceberg for war crimes.
Samira is a young teacher from Sarajevo who takes a teaching job in a small village .Serbian soldiers take them all even though she explains she is only there to teach, this comes to no avail she is herded like other women to a camp ,she is in a state of shock having witnessed mass shootings. Her dignity as a human and a woman is torn to pieces. Watching/feeling the aftermath of the torture to herself, of the other women and one very young girl whos rapist/torturer knew her brother..gross!!
She decides not to die silent..but to use her femininity to get a "somewhat" easier existence. She gets noticed by the Captain and becomes his main girl. Which is quite disturbing also because he doesn't torture or threaten her but gives her the simple things like food, access to a bath.... the small things we take granted become like a currency. (I am forced to ask myself if i would do this under the same conditions. And the answer is probably yes after being raped and beaten any respite would be welcome).
He knows she hates him/fears him which still make him a raper, but he doesn't want to force her like the others...This leads to a complicated situation with the other girls who are experiencing the hell of the other soldiers.
A very dark look at humans in general..Serbian men in this particular case since they all grew up along side these women maybe even went to the same schools somehow making it worse for me to understand.
Anyway she survives but what is left is a shell of her former self. Its very sad to think of these ladies having to go through such horrors and the men thinking they can get away with it.
But the strong acting makes it into a compelling film, even though extremely disturbing .
Arrow (2012)
What is wrong with computer whiz Felicity!!
I am sorry her character is so normal and boring ...she look like a porn star who sits at a keyboard....she is supposed to be a mega NERD ...Make her look and act smart not like everyone else.
As for the other characters they are typical for this kind of series...I like the martial arts although sometimes its albeit trivial.I like the fact that all the characters get some screen time it isn't all about the late 20s crowd. But despite my criticisms i do enjoy it a lot.Even though Diggles couldn't find a brown woman in star city.I want Manu back and i want felicity to play a proper nerd i also want to see young women showing expression on their faces rather than the bot ox 20 something that is the policeman's daughter.
