Colonia (2015)
IGNORE!! The Metacritic & Rotten Tomato Rating
No one wants to read a long winded review, so 'll keep it short then. It's worth a watch :p
Grand Piano (2013)
"Playing the right notes, with a few bum notes thrown in"
This film is absolutely ridiculous and so unrealistic as a concept but that really didn't distract from this brilliantly, atmospheric thriller with touches of Hitchcock running through the film.
I have to say we can all be are own worst critic and could easily slate this film from the surface but believe me this type of film is rare these days and it is definitely a welcome collection for the b-movies.
There are certainly some ropey parts and messy points like the killing of Wayne and Ashley which could of been handled better and the slightly weak ending which was the films biggest let down but overall the performances of Elijah Wood along with the sinister voice of John Cusack is a highlight for me when I seen that these fine actors would be in Grand Piano it certainly encourage my decision to give this film ago and I think everyone else should as well.
La migliore offerta (2013)
Full of Surprises
I have to say when I first heard about this film I wasn't quite such if I should watch it but I'm very pleased I did. I was intrigued by the films concept and leading actors of Geoffry Rush and Jim Sturgess are very enjoyable on screen with particular credit to Geoffry Rush who in my opinion gives his best acting performance to date and should of been at least nominated for an best actor Oscar
I felt while watching the best offer I thought that "This is how you do a suspense thriller" which resembles a Hitchcock style approach to film making that is sadly lost these days. There are so many twist and turns that it keep you guessing throughout the film, not like other films where it's spelt out in front of you.
I would highly recommend this film if you like a film with depth and real suspense that builds to an satisfying ending.
Titanic (1997)
The Greatest Movie of All Time
It gets me every time, I'm an emotion wreck at the end. Titanic is the only few films I have watched that is just as enjoyable as the first watch.
A 3 hour film normally requires dedication and sustain concentration with many films offend drag on but Titanic could be on for 6 hours and still be just as engaging.
Kate and DiCaprio are just so perfect for this role and are very believable in there performances. There's not one second that you think that there are acting in a film which says it all. Many people would say watching Titanic is a guilty pleasure but not for me its just a pleasure.
Weekend (2011)
What a weekend!
British independent film at its best, first of all I liked that Andrew, Chris & Tom really tore the script to pieces and just went for it which explains the organic feel to the film. Once in a blue moon a film really engages your attention and this film does, there is a beautiful subtleness to it that is really out of the norm in many films with both Tom & Chris giving believable performances.
It makes a refreshing change to watch a film that is actually realistic and could easily happen, which you can't say to every film out there. What's great about this film is the smaller details with many scenes showing the bits inbetween a typical day not just the big ta-dah moment like many other films show, I just love the pace of the film.
Toy Story (1995)
Majestic
The first outing of the Toy Story trilogy is a masterpiece of storytelling and technical brilliants for that time. The premise is bullet-proof with the Toy Story films based on the simple childhood fantasy That will exist for as long as children have played with toys and it will persist for as long as they continue to do so.
I always have a special connections with Toy Story as it brings nostalgia from my childhood but not just that its characters are iconic with magic voice overs from Tom Hank and Tim Allen plus the other cast just enriches the film foundation to build on with an engaging witty script suitable for all ages which many films have failed in the past.
Finally the spin-off films like Hawaiian Vacation, Partysaurus Rex and Toy Story of Terror! are a wonderful addition to the franchise with just as good as quality then most full length films out there today.
The Butterfly Effect (2004)
A diamond in the rough
I have to say when you stumble across a film by accident it's nice to be captivated by the concept and originality of the film. I tend to enjoy the more obscure, less obvious titles where there is less pressure on meeting certain criteria like profits and mass audience appeal which many big blockbuster films have suffered over the years.
I always love anything to do with sci-fi and time traveling is right up my street. The film didn't disappoint with Ashton Kutcher delivering his best performance yet, a surprise I have to say but credit where credits due. The film most of the time follows its rules fairly well with some inconsistency but that doesn't bother me too much.
I would of liked to see Evans changes have a wider reverberations but a minor issue but which isn't is the unnecessary violence through some scenes with Evan and Tommy. Overall a brilliant surprise which makes you think well after the films over.
Birds of a Feather (1989)
Return of a Classic
When I heard of the news about the 10th series late last year. I thought please be as funny as the earlier once and I have to say it was. I just watched the latest episode and what a start with great banter between the sisters and still maintaining the charm of the older series. I'm glad they didn't go over board with the script by trying to force laughs that some try to do and kept the original series at the heart of it.
I don't get the mixed reviews it received from critics but that's always going to happen with a show that's been brought back. I don't think they understand that it's meant to be a bit tongue 'n' cheek, lighten up a bit. Anyway I liked it so that's good enough for me.
GoldenEye (1995)
Best Bond Film Ever
Where to start? an absolute classic, a film that you can watch over and over again and still get surprises. The story is captivating with wonderful set pieces, especially the end many twist and turns throughout and it confidently struts itself effortlessly throughout the film with memorable quotes like Beg your pardon, forgot to knock and You don't need the gun, Commander. Well, that depends on your definition of safe sex.
The whole cast deliverer a stellar performance with a brilliant bond as Pierce Brosnan whose shows a witty, charismatic side with a swagger that draws you instantly to the new bond. What a bond girl Natalya is my favorite by far not just a beautiful women but a well crafted character with brawn. This film wouldn't be as good without the villains like Xenia and Alec who definitely pull off there roles quite perfectly.
To end on this film want disappoint, not just a great bond film but can easily be a stand alone film in its own right.
Hours (2013)
A Slow Burner (IMDB - 6.4)
I only just watched this film and I have to say not what I expected in a good way. I thought it would be political driven but I was mistaken. The concept is interesting with him trying to keep the incubators battery powered whiles hurricane Katrina rumbles in the background. The film takes a while to get started but when it does it's a good survival, tense thriller with heart.
I have a few minor issues with this film starting with the plot occasionally a little suspect, the script leaving you wanting more and the uninspiring back story of how both Nolan & Abigail met etc. But don't let that put you off overall it's a well made film delivering a decent effort at a tense thriller.
Brokeback Mountain (2005)
A Good Accident
A Film I seen by accident and the best accident ever. To start with it makes a pleasant change for a big Hollywood film to have heart and riveting emotion behind it. The unusual romantic love story between two men does make a refreshing change to the dominate male/female love story. There struggles and torment endure through there rocky long distance relationship further pulled me into the film even more.
Whiles watching the film I have to say Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal effortless performances felt real and not focused at all. The film doesn't try to tell the story in a blatant way but lets the audience make there own minds up and discover how they would react in there situation, can't ask more of a film then this one. Plus Brokeback Mountain should of won Best Picture Oscar end of.
