I like survival movies the most like Cast Away, The Revenant etc. I generally avoid 3 genres - Animated, Fantasy and Comedy. A movie's Country of Origin & Language doesn't bother me. Following are the things I generally try to notice while watching a movie to rate it:-
1)Directing
2)Writing
3)Cinematography
4)Editing
5)Acting
6)Production Design
7)Sound Mixing

Badhaai Do (2022)
Rajkummar's realistic acting faded everything else in the movie.
The story is not out of this world. The same gay lesbian thing, but i liked the realistic ambience which was created in every scene.
The way things goes in an ordinary Indian family like that reused food container to carry poop, though unnecessary yet important to build the Indian family things.
The plot is kept as real as possible without adultering it with common Bollywood masala which I would have hated it.
For example, I once thought they're going to have sex inside the car which they didn't in that rain & car scene.
Secondly i thought Shardul is going to join them dancing wearing that mask in the LGBT parade which they again didn't.
Every good thing about this film starts fading away when we watch Rajkummar acting.
Bhumi tried to complement but Rajkummar is so good that she disappears when she shares frame with him.
Yes, I liked that Arunachali girl.
My Birthday Song (2018)
A psychological thriller with uncanny resemblance to "Nocturnal Animals" (2016) and "Mulholland Drive" (2001) with a meritless bollywood ending.
This movie was going good right from the start..keeps you occupied and exhilarated throughout. The components in this movie give uncanny resemblance to "Nocturnal Animals" (2016) and "Mulholland Drive" (2001). I was all praising Bollywood for bringing such movie after a long time since John Abraham's "No Smoking" (2007) and Akshay's "8X10 Tasveer" (2009) until the meritless poorly scripted ending which abruptly made me realise I was watching a Bollywood movie after all.
Qarib Qarib Singlle (2017)
So beautiful...so satisfying.
This movie is very simple, soothing and satisfying just like the movies Before Sunrise (1995), Before We Go (2014). Most viewers didn't like it because it was very simple. Viewers want some tragic or emotional part in it. But too much of add ons adulterate a movie like this. It loses it's simplicity and innocence.
Mukkabaaz (2017)
Vineet Kumar Singh's "Mukkabaaz" vs Michael B. Jordan's "Creed"
Vineet Kumar Singh has worked very hard to learn boxing skills and to shape himself like a boxer. There's even a youtube video on the harsh training he has undergone. But I'm very sad to say I din't see any of his boxing skills in the movie. He was boxing like an amateur. It could also be the fault of the stunt coordinator for not choreographing it well.
I was forced to compare it with Michael B. Jordan because he went through the same journey like Vineet Kumar Singh for the 2016 Oscar nominated Creed. Michael's moves, attitude and stunts were like a pro boxer.
The Great Buddha+ (2017)
The title "The Great Buddha" doesn't manifest the storyline in any sense.
A night security guard (Pickle) in a Buddha Statue Factory (Globe) cum residence is a friend with a scrap picking guy (Belly Button). Their favourite time pass at night is to watch dashboard camera videos of Pickle's Boss's Mercedes Benz.
Pickle's Boss (Kevin Huang) is a very rich and powerful middle aged man who is a Casanova.
One night Pickle and Belly Button were watching the videos when they saw a video where Kevin was killing his ex and sealed her inside a big Bronze Statue of Buddha in their factory.
They decided not to inform police because law is biased towards the rich and moreover Pickle's old mother is sick and he needs this job to take care of her.
A night Kevin suddenly came into the security cabin when Pickle was alone and told him he knows everything what he and his trash picking friend do whole night here. He also asked Pickle if he needs any help to approach him.
Following morning, Belly Button was found dead in a drainage ditch with high blood alcohol in his body looking like an accident whereas Pickle knows Belly Button doesn't drink.
Next Kevin arranged Pickle's mother for hospital stay and the bills were taken care. Pickle couldn't understand Kevin's intentions.
In the final scene, the bronze Buddha statue was sold to a Buddhist Temple and where the ceremony was going on, suddenly the monks started hearing a noise inside the Statue.
Tomb Raider (2018)
Alicia Vikander raided the Tomb of Himiko in the island of Yamatai.
The movie can be divided into three parts.
1st Part - "The Lost City of Z (2016) where Lord Richard Croft went missing in a mysterious Japanese island called Yamati and his daughter Lara Croft went there searching for him.
2nd part - "Rambo (2008)" where Lara Croft joins a group of lost fishermen kidnapped by the ruthless infantry unit in the isolated island to venture into war to rescue her father.
3rd Part - "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) where Mathias Vogel unearths the mummy of the shaman Queen Himiko, whose one touch was enough to kill anyone.
Well, That's the storyline of Tomb Raider with bad CGI.
Kapringen (2012)
Better than Captain Phillips (2013)
This movie looked absolutely real. No exaggeration. Storyline is quite similar with 2014 Oscar nominated movie Captain Phillips.
Reason why Captain Phillips got more popularity because it was a dramatisation of 2009 hijacking of the American cargo ship MV Maersk Alabama.
Things which has to do with America gains more popularity than the rest of the World.
Moreover Captain Phillips had 22 times bigger budget than Kapringen.
Last but not least, Captain Phillips had Tom Hanks in it.
Deepwater Horizon (2016)
I worked with Schlumberger as well as in offshore oil rig
The movie is great as I can relate it to myself and my working environment. Since it is a dramatisation of a real accident, the director couldn't add extra things to viewer's taste. Many factual errors are there. It would have been better if they would have done some more research by some experienced personnel working in Offshore Oil rigs for the technical knowledge to make the script.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
If Blade Runner 2049 would have been made in 2016, It would have defeated Mad Max: Fury Road
You don't watch a movie just for Original Screenplay, Acting and Direction. There are more than this. So forget the aforementioned categories and watch this movie only for Color Cinematography, Visual Effects, Sound Mixing & Editing. It's one of the best.
Mother! (2017)
Mother here means Mother Earth.
In this movie, the director tried to portray how God created the world and all its beings and places the first man and woman (Adam and Eve) in his Garden of Eden, how the first couple are expelled from God's presence, of the first murder which follows, and God's decision to destroy the world and recreate a new one.
The director tried to make the movie look like a Modern Abstract Art and also incorporated dream sequence in it but failed to convey the meaning clearly thereby couldn't attract viewers attention to its beauty.
Hichki (2018)
Are people really this ignorant about tourette syndrome?
In simple language the movie is about a lady with some neurological disorder so called tourette syndrome which causes some speech impediment struggling to become a teacher. Movie over. What they hyped is how highly educated Indian School teachers are ignorant about tourette syndrome and in the entire 116 mins movie, every minute they try to teach you what tourette syndrome (TS) is. Too much of education isn't it? No match for " The King's Speech (2010) "
A Quiet Place (2018)
Reason why so diversified reviews for this movie.
The idea behind the movie is innovative and good but a lot of bogus scenes and plot holes strangled the innovation. If you just want to get scared by a movie irrespective of a movie's technicality then this is for you.
Kimi no na wa. (2016)
Not that impressive to me like other viewers rated.
I have less appetite for animated movies. I watch only those which gets rating of 8 and above. After watching this movie, I simply felt it's exaggerated by viewers. It's not that heartfelt romantic neither emotional. "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" (2002) touched my heart more.
Hindi Medium (2017)
Bravo! A simple daily life curry prepared with the perfect amount of flavors and ingredients in it.
The best thing to watch in this movie is the transition and arrangement of scenes. There is always a strong bridge connecting between the current and last scenes. The director chose a very simple daily life story and it is very difficult to craft such insipid stories into a beautiful movie without adding any tragic, emotional, bizarre or thriller part into it. Also too much of add ons can adulterate it. That's why I mentioned the movie to be a daily life curry with the perfect amount of flavors and ingredients in it. All the actors did a phenomenal job but Deepak Dobriyal was the best.
Raabta (2017)
Remember Love Story 2050 by Harman Baweja & Priyanka Chopra?
To make a movie on reincarnation is a risky job for a screenwriter because it mostly fails. Raabta is a classic example to the aforementioned. Weak story-line, substandard acting, awful costumes & make up. Also the limited color palette used to portray the past life does not set the mood. It reflects less research made by the Color Consultant/Cinematographer. In my opinion, "Valley of Flowers" is the best Indian reincarnation movie so far.
Pink (2016)
Simply overrated. Biased Indian reviewers.
Those who rated high are the viewers and those who rated low are the critics. The difference between the two is that a viewer watches the movie whereas a critic inspects it. Just because a movie gives you a strong social message doesn't make the movie great. The problem with most Indian viewers is that they do not go much into technicality. They get simply emotional or biased by the movie and end up rating it very high. This movie is a simple courtroom drama with no extraordinary story line and above that overacting spoiled the verisimilitude. "Jolly LLB" is undoubtedly best Indian movie of this genre.
