Really Disappointing...
6 October 2011
Warning: Spoilers
For those that are looking forward to a sequel to the movie The Sword And The Sorcerer, let me warn you that this isn't it. Other than scripting the father of all the children in the movie "Talon" from the original Sword And Sorcerer, the two movies have very little at all in common. That being said, what you do have is a rather bizarre vampire movie with costumes left over from some renaissance fair, an out of place and overly loud heavy metal score and dialog that by using phrases such as "do we have a quarrel sir" is trying hard to sound lofty but coming off as superficial. The CGI clearly reflects the budget constraints as do the settings and props. The largest allotment of monies must have been paid to Kevin Sorbo so they could put his name on the billing, however that must have only covered about 20 minutes worth of screen time. The producers were clearly looking to make a series but I can't imagine that will happen due to the poor product they ended up with. There's only one gratuitous shot of boobs, most likely due again to budget constraints, so you don't even bevies of naked hot chicks to take your mind off the disjointed plot. Being a fan of "B" movies, especially Sci-Fi and Fantasy, low budgets and some mediocre acting come with the territory but good results can still be obtained. This movie just can't be given a pass I'm sorry to say. Bad editing, bad dialog & script, and poor casting choices are all fixable and lay squarely at the feet of the director and producers. There are good low budget and independently made movies, this however is not one.

The Runaways (2010)
4/10
Entertaining, but overall disappointing.
22 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Let me start by saying that I was in my early 20's when the Runaways first came on the music scene back in the mid 70's. I've enjoyed their music all these years and as a fan have always wanted to know their story. There are two movies about the Runaways, this movie "The Runaways" and a documentary called "Edgeplay - A Film About The Runaways" from 2004. Unfortunately, neither film was made with the support and cooperation of all of the band members. This film was produced by Joan Jett and is focused on her and Cheri Curry. Lita Ford and Jackie Fox didn't get on board, so in my opinion a huge part of the story isn't being told. The bio Edgeplay has the same type problem, Joan Jett didn't get on board with that project, so again, a huge part of the story is missing. The bottom line for me then is this, was the moving entertaining and worth watching. I'd say yes with some reservations. First of all this isn't a documentary by any means. A movie based on true events maybe? Well, based on Joan Jetts and Cheri Curries rendition of events that they chose to portray. I believe Joan's ego got squarely in the way of how things really were back then. Perhaps why all the members didn't participate? Also, I wasn't really impressed with Dakota Fanning's performance. I couldn't quite buy into her character portrayal. I just kept seeing Dakota, not Cherie and this was quite distracting. Maybe someday, someone will make the truly definitive biography of the band with all the legal squabbles left behind, but I doubt it. So watch both films, and you'll be getting the best representation possible of what the Runaways were and went through all those years ago. One thing is for sure, the music was great back then and still is today.

Watched this film based on IMDb 5.7 score - Big mistake!
12 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I guess that shock would be the best way to describe my reaction to this film. It was simply horrible. I believe I was watching a "full" version, so I can't blame poor chopping block editing for this mess. The film looked amateurish, the acting was terrible, and there was no plot to speak of. Even the sex scenes were bad, porn movies have better production values than this stinker. I only hope that by writing this review, I can save someone from watching this film. The 5.7 score here on the IMDb, that enticed me to watch, is completely misleading in my opinion. I gave it a 2, and was being generous. If this movie is a good example of Mr. Rolin's work, I'll not be watching another of his films!

Ginger Snaps (2000)
9/10
Much better than I expected!
1 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I started watching this movie with a great deal of skepticism built up. I hadn't gotten any feed back from friends or read anything on IMDb either. With a title like "Gingersnaps", I was expecting a silly little "chic flick" rather than a true horror movie. Boy was I wrong on this one. This movie sets a mood that pulls you in, the characters are fleshed out well and the plot keeps you interested completely. This has to be the best and nicest surprise I've gotten with a movie in many years. I highly recommend this flick to anyone that likes horror and werewolf type movies. The special effects are quite good and won't disappoint many people and there's quite a bit of blood and guts for those that demand that type thing from their horror movies. Hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised too!

Decent Film Student Parody
27 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this was a decent film student parody. Most people that have really bashed this little short, seem to have forgotten that this is a "film students" work, not a professional piece, placed in the market for profit.

As a fan of NOTLD, I enjoyed the fact that he kept all his scenes as close as possible to the original. You could recognize each one.

This isn't a "bust a gut" laughing type parody, but more of a homage to the original movie, in a short, silly, film student way...

No more, no less.

He did OK in my opinion, which is worth .02 $

Demon Hunter (2005)
4/10
Really feels like a T.V. pilot, but ain't bad!
13 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
As a movie consumer particularly inclined to this genre and encouraged due to the positive reviews I've read here on the IMDb, I watched this movie and now offer my analysis. I don't entirely disagree with some of the glowing reviews, however it felt like a well produced T.V. pilot rather than a true theatrical release.

It was well produced, but it never reached the "theatrical release" quality that I was lead to believe. I'll spell out the particulars...

1. The pace seems like it was intentioned to where things stopped for no other reason than it would be a great place to put a commercial break.

2. The costumes and "special" makeup, In my opinion seemed easy to recreate as though for a weekly show.

Examples: The main bad hotty: stick-on horns and vampire fangs, little leather outfit.

The main bad guy: vampire fangs, leather jacket.

The main good guy: glowing eyes, occasionally.

The main good hotty: nothing until SHE turned bad, then two finger demon hands and ugly face like the vampires on "Buffy".

It's not going to win any awards, although it's better than many of the so called theatrical releases I've seen lately. I wish they had made this into a weekly series. I'd have tuned in!
