Uncharted (2022)
Not great, but not nearly as bad as I was expecting.
I put off watching Uncharted, because I heard bad things. But it popped up on Amazon Prime, so I decided to watch it. And it actually wasn't that bad.
I still don't like the casting of Tom Holland and Mark Walberg as Nate and Sully. But I did like the actress who played Chloe.
I found that I enjoyed the movie more, when I decided to not compare it to the games. And with that in mind, I found the movie pretty entertaining.
There are some fun action sequences, and funny dialogue from the characters. But the villain kind of sucked.
Overall, I thought it was a decent movie. And I wouldn't mind if they make a sequel.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
The best version of Justice League.
Zack Snyder's Justice League is definitely better than the theatrical cut. The extra runtime allows for more insight on the character. Cyborg is the biggest bennificiary of this, as he gets so much more character development in this version. Steppenwolf is more compelling, as his motivations are more clear. He want to redeem himself in the eyes of Darkseid. The extra runtime isn't all good though. I think they could've cut out quite a few unnessacary scenes, and the movie would've flowed better at 3:30. I also have some minor nitpicks, like the aspect ratio, no reason for Superman's black suit, and Martian Manhunter.
Overall, it's still a big improvement over the theatrical cut, and it's now my 4th favorite DCEU film. 8/10.
Limbo (2010)
Surprisingly good.
I'm not a fan of old school 2d platformers. That's why I didn't play Limbo when it was first released. But I bought it on sale on PSN, and I was surprised by how much I liked it. The dark, colorless atmosphere is creepy and engaging. But the puzzle solving is what had me staying up late playing. I doubt I'll be playing it much in the future, but I enjoyed it while it lasted.
The Old Guard (2020)
Surprisingly entertaining
Netflix has a spotty record when it comes their original movies, which is why I was surprised how much I liked The Old Guard. The movie sets up great mythology, has good action, and interesting characters. It's not all good though, the villain sucks, and the third act betrayal was predictable. Overall I enjoyed The Old Guard, and I hope they make a sequel.
Tomb Raider (2018)
Best Video Game movie ever, not that that's saying much.
Video Game movies don't have the track record, so I wasn't expecting much from Tomb Raider, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Alicia Vikander was great as Lara Croft, and the story kept me entertained throughout. I know a lot of fans of the game won't like the removal of the supernatural element, but I thought it worked well. The villain could've been a little better ( especially with an actor like Walton Goggins in the role), but he was serviceable. I loved for them to continue with this franchise, as it was left open for a sequel.
Doragon Bôru Sûpâ Burorî (2018)
There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
I haven't been this bored watching Dragon Ball since GT. Right off the bat they recon Goku's origin, although I didn't mind the changes they made to Broly. There's barely any story here, the last 45 minutes is one extended fight scene, and without a good story driving the fight scenes, they get boring fast. I think if it had been a little shorter, it would've been easier to watch.
The Last of Us: Part II (2020)
A fantastic sequel , with one flaw.
The Last of Us Part 2 is an amazing follow up to the original, the gameplay is even better than the original, and the story is great too. The only problem I had was that I thought there was too much focus on Abby. Ellie and Joel are the characters I wanted to see, and there wasn't enough of them for my liking. Overall, it's still a great game, one of the best you can get on PS4.
Resident Evil 3 (2020)
Good, but way too short.
I want to start by saying I like Resident Evil 3 Remake, the updated visuals, gameplay and dialogue make this the definitive version of RE3. Unfortunately, it's not as good as I was hoping, as soon as I heard RE3 was releasing just over a year after RE2, and was bundled with a multiplayer game, I was worried it was going to be short ( just as RE2 was short), but it's even shorter than I thought it would be, and just not quite as good as RE2 in general.
I liked it, but I think it could've been added to RE2 to as DLC, instead of charging $80 for a full game.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Underwhelming
I had high hopes for Batman v Superman, I loved Man of Steel, and the some of the trailers were really good. Unfortunately the movie was far too long, the story was convoluted, Lex Luthor was horribly miscast, and there were far too many scenes that served no purpose. There are some positives though, Ben Affleck is good as Batman ( which was a concern since he was cast), there's some cool action scenes ( the warehouse scene in particular), and some of the story problems were fixed in the Ultimate Cut. Overall it's not the worst movie, but it should've been better.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019)
Amazing Game
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is amazing, the story is entertaining, the gameplay is fun & addictive, and the cast is great. There are a few minor problems, the platforming can be buggy, and I noticed quite a few graphic errors. Overall Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is the best Star Wars experience I've had in a few years.
Grimm (2011)
A good show.
I enjoyed Grimm quite a bit, it has good characters, a solid mythology, an some good story arcs, but it tends to drag in some parts, and rush in others (especially in the last season. Overall Grimm kept me wanting to see what happens next, you cant ask for much more than that.
The Last of Us (2013)
A masterpiece
The Last of Us is the standard bearer of Video Games. The story, graphics, gameplay and sound design is all top rate. I'm racking my brain to think of a complaint, but I can't think of any. Easily a top 10 game of all time.
Child's Play (2019)
Not scary, but entertaining.
Child's Play (2019) is much better than I thought it would be, it's not scary at all, but it's funny & entertaining. The new concept for Chucky better than I thought it would be, however there are some cringe worthy moments and forced callbacks to the original. Overall I enjoyed it, nothing that will make me want to watch it again ( though I will be downloading the Buddi song).
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
Not as bad as I thought it'd be.
Dark Phoenix isn't a good movie, but it's not a total loss, there's a few good action scenes, and some decent performances. However the pros and cons kinda cancel each other out, the main villains are terrible, the story is all over the place, and many of the characters choices are illogical, and Quicksilver ( easily the highlight of the last 2 X-Men films) is barely in it. Overall I enjoyed more than I thought I would, because everyone's saying it sucks.
Captain Marvel (2019)
A good movie, but not one of Marvels best.
Captain Marvel is a good movie, it's entertaining, funny, with good action and some interesting surprises.
It's not perfect, the first act is a little dull, and there's some questionable CGI. The good does outweigh the bad though, Brie Larson and Samuel Jackson have good chemistry, and some cool Easter eggs. I'd put it on par with Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and The Wasp, and Incredible Hulk( which I think is underrated).
Resident Evil 2 (2019)
A great remake of a classic
As a huge fan of the original I was thrilled to find out that Capcom was remaking Resident Evil 2, and I was thoroughly satisfied with the results ( for the most part). This game is improves the gameplay, the dialogue, and the graphics ( obviously), and although there's some differences it's still the same story as the original. The only real problem I have with the game is that Leon and Claire's campaigns are too similar, yes they have different cut scenes and some different areas to explore , but most of the puzzles are repeated in both campaigns. However there's still plenty to love for fans of the original and those who are new to Resident Evil.
Suicide Squad (2016)
Longest music video i've ever seen
Suicide Squad seems like a string of music videos featuring various villains of DC comics.
The film is entertaining despite its many flaws, most of the main characters are great, it can be quite funny at times, and has some great cameos. The movie also has a terrible villain ( and a great secondary villain that should've been the main villain), and this movie is horribly edited. Overall the Suicide Squad is entertaining but messy, I just barely liked, but I can see why someone wouldn't.
Wonder Woman (2017)
A good start for Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman is fun and action packed, Gal Gadot's inexperience hurts the character less than I thought it would, which I credit to director Patty Jenkins. As with most comic book movies the villain is underutilized and kinda boring, but the good supporting characters help to forgive the movie for the underwhelming villain. Overall Wonder Woman is a good origin story for a character I hope to see a lot more of on the big screen.
Man of Steel (2013)
Best Superman film
Man of Steel is the best Superman movie I've seen, it has a great cast, good acting, and great action. It's not perfect, the colors are too dark, they could've used a bit more humor and there was too much collateral damage in the final act. Overall my favorite DCEU movie, and a top 10 comic book movie.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)
Surprisingly fun & entertaining
I wasn't expecting much from Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this movie. Jumanji is funny and entertaining, though not perfect, a lot of the CGI was pretty bad and the villain was a throwaway. Overall Jumanji 2 is a good time at the movies( or on your couch).
Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018)
Underwhelming
I was excited to play Shaddow of the Tomb Raider because the last two games were amazing. The game got off to a decent start, but once Lara gets to the village the story drags and becomes ridiculous ( even for a Tomb Raider game). The gameplay was basically the same as the previous two games, but didn't feel quite as polished. This game also has more free roaming with side missions, which works for a lot of games but not this one. Overall it's an okay game, it just doesn't measure up to the previous two.
