Usually a 1/10 rating means you found the show really bad, some combination of bad acting, writing, concept, etc.
I actually wish this was the case here, it would be less sad. A 1/10 for just being bad isn't really a problem. Probably early on you knew you didn't like it, and never really got engaged.
I rate this show a 1/10 because it is great in many ways, but is ultimately nihilistic and a negative experience to watch. A show that's better to never start watching.
The concept is intriguing with loads of potential; an alternative history in which Russia landed people on the moon before the U.S. There are many compelling characters. Production values are high, the special effects, sets and direction/editing are all very good.
Without spoiling any actual plot, after 8 episodes, this is what I come away with:
1. Politicians are corrupt 2. People are mean to each other for bad reasons 3. Nationalism causes conflict 4. Accidents kill innocent/good people.
I.e. pick up a newspaper. These themes are explored in the context of mostly decent people, mostly helping each other with these issues. But I just don't see what the point is. The show does have some great moments, but ultimately, it's not entertaining. It's not inspiring, which one might have hoped for given the titular theme of space exploration. I don't see messages, intellectual or emotional, about dealing with societal issues we still struggle with today.
Why build this elaborate alternative history, fill it with interesting people, just to say "people/the world sucks, so just deal with it."? In my mind, this lack of vision for the show leads to an unfortunate waste of its potential and clear talent and efforts of those working on it.
