In Time (2011)
Stupid on so many levels!
I don't even know where to begin. Nothing in this movie makes any sense. It's so stupid from start to finish, and everything in between.
Sure, I guess when they had thought of the initial seed of an idea for the script I can see how it might had looked like a good idea. Hell, I saw the trailer a while back and thought it should be good. But way waaaaay before this movie was given the green light, someone should have said "No, we were wrong. This can't work. It's just too stupid." I can't convey the stupidity without any spoilers, so I'm not going to.
I'm not saying don't watch this movie, either. Apart from the basic concept, story line, script, and Amanda Seyfried's hairdo and makeup, I don't have any complaints. All the stupidity was there before they turned on the camera. Having read even my own review I would be curious now just to see what this is all about.
If you are going to see it, remember that if you end up thinking this movie is good, there must be something seriously wrong with you. Yes, I'm talking to you 6.6 average voting IMDb users.
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
Bloody AWFUL!
I just can't believe how many good reviews this movie got here. I feel I must balance things.
I usually like musicals, and black comedies. I simply hated this one.
For a musical: the songs did nothing to me. If a musical is good, you would want to listen to the soundtrack again after watching, since you enjoy the music as you do the whole show. I would not get near this soundtrack CD!
For a black comedy: Black - yes (although red is more appropriate). Funny - Not one bit.
The story is depressing, disturbing, disappointing, and hideous. The ending is, well... hideous, disturbing, depressing, and disappointing.
I did not care for the characters. Todd's revengeful mind does not make up for the hideous acts he performs. Johanna's love story? Come one, she doesn't even know the guy. The cinematography is quite good, with the dark shades, pale faces, and distinct reds, but that's all that's good. Way too much blood, way too many senseless murders. Almost made me sick. And vegetarian.
Watch Little Shop of Horrors instead. Now there's a good dark musical.
Living & Dying (2007)
There's a reason you've never heard about this film before
I rented this one on DVD without any prior knowledge. I was suspicious seeing Michael Madsen appearing in a movie I have never heard of, but it was a freebie, so why not check it out.
Well my guess is that Mr. Blonde would very much like to forget he's ever taken part in such a shame of a film.
Apparently, if your script and dialogs are terrible, even good actors cannot save the day. Not to mention the amateur actors that flood this film. Too many non-native-English-speakers play parts of native-English-speakers, reading out lines from a script that should have been thrown away and not having been made into a movie. It's unbelievable how unbelievable all the lines in the movie sound. The music is awful and totally out of place, and the whole thing looks and sounds like a poor school play.
I recommend you watch it just so you would appreciate other, better, movies. This is why I gave it a 3 instead of the 1 it deserves.
