Transcendence (2014)
Sweet Baby Jesus! My eyes !!!
If you enjoyed this movie, thought that it was even remotely realistic, or, god-forbid, have the nerve to defend it as a 'modern sci-fi classic' or a 'deep cautionary tale'...please cancel your IMDb account and keep your film opinions to yourself as you wander through life, drooling and content with whatever drivel entertainment studios shovel into your lap.
To have so much talent in one flick with such a completely laughable result, is truly amazing. I'm a lifelong fan of high-concept sci-fi...and I must admit, I was intrigued by the initial concept of this movie. What unraveled in front of me, was a cinematic travesty.
Without the star-power, this would've been a SyFy Channel Friday night movie and dismissed before they could've even negotiated for a sell-through DVD release.
I'm not going to sum-up or illustrate points....they're too numerous and mind-numbing. Just avoid at all costs.
Backcountry (2014)
Poorly made, amateur effort
I am befuddled by the positive reviews and seeing people attempting to praise it's structure or genius-in-simplicity. This is an amateur 'film' in its entire construction...with some of the worst acting I've seen in recent memory. The entire thing is filmed in a rack-focus, tilt-shift, hand-held style that is supposed to add to the suspense or claustrophobia. We get it! Use the effect to accentuate points or set- ups....not the entire flick! It's a headache to watch. Every time an actor spoke...I groaned. Every decision they made...I groaned. Every attempt to make these characters seem 'real' ...I groaned. I know we all have opinions...we all have different tastes...but for anyone to claim this is 'a great survival film' or to even mention it in the same sentence as Jaws...is a slight to the art of filmmaking.
The Long and Short of It (2003)
Embarrassing.
Some free time and access to cast and filming equipment during the Two Towers shoot, prompted Sean Astin to 'express himself'. Good Lord. Hasn't he been in the film business since he was a little kid? You'd think he'd be able to string-together something interesting for 5 minutes with the resources available to him. This is trite, community college 'filmmaking', and he should be embarrassed for wasting people's time and having the gall to get this screened at Sundance.
Please Sean...
stick to complaining, biting the hand that feeds you, and living off of past roles.
Don't venture behind the camera anymore unless you surround yourself with much more talented people.
