Episode 50 (2011)
Not worth the time
I read reviews before watching this so I didn't go in with some high expectations or anything like that but I'm a fan of paranormal movies so I wanted to give it a try. I am the type of person who feels the need to finish things. Every movie I've watched in my life, I feel the need to finish it no matter how bad it is because I want to know what happens and if it will get better. If I start a book but I'm not necessarily into it, I make myself finish it. I finish things... so it says a lot that I couldn't even watch this through.
I can't put my finger on what exactly made it so bad to me but it was just bad. I watched a little over the first thirty minutes and actually skipped parts after that a time or two. Then I jumped to the end... I'm sure some people will enjoy it anyway and that's great. For me personally, I didn't like it much at all. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever seen but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. I suggest you watch Grave Encounters if you want something like this (only better).
Chernobyl Diaries (2012)
Not that great but had potential.
I watched the trailer and skimmed over non-spoiling reviews before watching this. So I didn't really have high expectations but I was really intrigued by the idea of it all. All I can really say is that I personally thought it was just, "okay". I loved the scenery it made this one of those films with kind of a natural eery feeling without having to really try. That alone is probably the only really good thing I can think of at the moment.
Nothing was really that great and amazing or captivating. Honestly I think you get more out of just watching the trailer. However if you are going to watch this, DON'T watch the trailer because it spoils almost every scare. This is slightly saddening to me because I really wanted to like this movie and I feel that it really had a lot of potential. There is so much more they could of done with this but I felt it was a let down. For me there were too many predictable parts and I (like other reviewers) had moments where I couldn't help but ask some common sense questions to myself. You know the typical, "Why'd someone go and do that?" or, "How didn't they need..."
Anyway other than that I personally would of just liked more to the story and if not that at least more scare. Overall I thought it was okay and not the worst I've ever watched. I would only recommend this movie to people who enjoy these kinds of movies and are okay with a more subtle scare. I mean its more tension creating by the environment and situation than actual gore and action with whatever is causing it all.
The Devil Inside (2012)
Definitely worth a try.
I personally really enjoyed this movie however I am a big fan of horror movies and especially these types of documentary or found footage. Though there are more bad ones than good ones out there, for some reason I still enjoy watching them. So anyway that's a personal preference and I agree with other people in that you will either like it or hate it.
I did find it kind of slow to get going but once it did I enjoyed it and didn't get bored. For me it really was easy to feel with the characters and fall into the realism. Of course there are parts that are clearly fake and ridiculous like in any horror movie. Putting that aside I felt the fear, tension, and uncomfortable moments. While its not the best out there, to me personally, its a good one and worth a try if you are a fan of these types of movies.
Paranormal Activity 4 (2012)
Paranormal Inactivity
I just got around to watching this and I have mixed feelings. First of all I am a fan of horror movies and I have watched many found footage ones. I was a fan of these movies but with each one I felt less and less fan girl when I heard a new one was coming. So even though there were flaws with the first, I liked it enough and was excited to see what the second would bring. Then again, I had to see what would happen in the third though I wasn't too excited for it. Even though I expected it would continue to be worse I put the fourth in my DVD queue but kept bumping it down to see other things first. Because I'm a fan of these types of movies and I have false hope that one time they will make one better than the first movie, I would want to rate this higher. But I'm not going to be unrealistic, it is what it is.
As I expected... it was not that great... I won't spoil anything for those who haven't seen it. But I will say that I would only suggest this to someone who is a real fan of the Paranormal Activity movies, or even just paranormal movies. However if you just like paranormal movies, I suggest you watch the first one or even the second before I suggest you watch this one. Better yet maybe just watch a completely different movie unless you are looking for something to kill time and again, are fans.
For me it just lacked activity and... I grew bored quickly and waiting for things to happen. If not something happening I was at least expecting more to be explained from previous movies or to elaborate on that more than they did. If not those two things at least have something new about it that held your attention. The last minutes of the movie are the most "active" but its really cut short. Kind of like they slapped together an ending that's suppose to be scary since they spent the whole movie building up to something they hadn't even figured out yet.
Occupant (2011)
It definitely leaves you with one too many questions.
I will start without spoiling anything and speak in general. I just finished watching this and I'm not exactly sure how I feel about it. I do think it had so much potential but didn't quite execute it all right. I agree with many of the previous reviews. I completely understand why its getting mixed and mostly negative reviews. I would only suggest this to someone who has time to kill and likes this particular type of movie. I mean the kind that keeps you guessing but doesn't really explain much so you're left guessing.
I personally found myself getting kind of bored in the last thirty minutes and I was wondering what is going to happen. I was just waiting for something to happen already... and not much happened. At the same time, I personally thought it had some good things about it as well. Such as the apartment itself, I thought it was beautiful and at the same time so easily eery all on its own. There were one or two moments that were really interesting, not necessarily scary. I think you'll either like it or hate it, depending on what you like in a movie its worth a try. My main problem and thing I want to point out is it leaves you with one too many questions.
There are some specific things I wanted to point out that I liked and disliked about this movie. Maybe it will give others another perspective if they, like me, came here after watching it to get a better understanding and/or see what other people thought.

It had its good moments (to me). For example the mirror scene... what was that about. The silhouette before blog girl died, I didn't think it looked like our main character so it did freak me out for a minute... things like that. I just think it wasn't all bad. I didn't care for what happened to the cat (exterminator spraying it, then baked). I don't understand the hole in the wall. I don't understand the door man's MO... and a lot more I just didn't understand.
I guess I'll end this review with my personal interpretation of this whole ting. For some reason being in that big apartment for so many days caused him to lose it. Maybe it was the pressure of losing the place. Maybe he was already to some degree crazy. Maybe it was a mixture of things that built up to our disappointing end with an impractical suicide. At the end we see the little boy watching the full clip from blog girls camera. We know that Danny also watched this, so maybe he couldn't come to terms with seeing himself kill her and then hide it. I thought maybe that's why the camera is found on the floor later, kind of smashed up. I still don't understand the hole in the wall, or if it was just a natural heart attack causing the grandmothers death, but I'm getting that this was mostly his insanity. Maybe the stapled wallpaper over the wall was ripped because he threw blog girl down there after killing her. Maybe later he tried to stuff exterminator guy down there but he wouldn't fit or was too heavy.
I understand in this insanity (by his words) he rationalized by saying cops and such would come to the apartment if they knew about the exterminator dying. Then he worried about being kicked out of there so he felt he had to hide it. Maybe seeing his cat in the oven really pushed him off the edge. At first I thought he put the door up as a trap as he did with all of the wire and crap. Then he looks around and remembers what was and decides to kill himself. So I'm just not sure... as I said it leaves you with too many questions.
