Trapped (1973)
Haunting Movie of the Week
This review is murky because the last time I saw it was when it aired in the 70's. James Brolin in a department store facing man-eating security dogs. The movie scared me more than if the store had mannequins that came to life. I will not give away the ending or key parts. There are plenty of suspenseful moments. Remember this was in the days predating cellphones and electronic security systems. Brolin's character was s.o.l. The things Brolin does to ward off the dogs rivals that of MacGuyver. ABC needs to package this and other movies-of-the-week as a DVD compilation. As an adult, I'm still afraid of scary dogs.
The Green Hornet (2011)
A Digestible Hero Adaptation
The car is perfect. Straight out of the 60's television show. The costumes are a spot-on tribute to the ones worn by Van Williams and Bruce Lee. My main worry was having a comic actor in the lead. I am very critical about super-hero films, so I entered the theatre with much trepidation. I exited the theatre smiling! Check your nit-picking grim and grittiness at the door. This film is clever and funny, but not ludicrous as 1997's "Batman & Robin" was.
Seth Rogen's fighting style was believable, and the dialogue was intelligent and immature simultaneously. Christoph Waltz's part as the villain, Chudnofsky shines.
Here's to a sequel!!!
Fenomenal e il tesoro di Tutankamen (1968)
This film cries out for a DVD release
Some movies are forgotten. I cannot tell you enough how this little gem needs the spotlight. Find it, see it, rave on about it. Phenomenal is cut from the same cloth as Italy's Diabolik. I mean literally. Same-ish mask, same laugh, black clothes, makes fun of the cops, etc. You sort of get a sense of who is behind the eyeless mask wayyyy in the beginning, but who the heck cares? There are thugs, treasures, scantily clad women; this was the sixties, and it was all about the world travel and tiny cars. I rented this on VHS back in the 90's and recently found a keeper copy on eBay. If I put this on my alter for several years, it may pop up on DVD, as Diabolik finally did! If you are a fan of Batman, Bond, Diabolik, Flint, Captain Kirk, please find and enjoy!
