Avenging Disco Vampires (2001)
fabulously campy!
This is a wonderfully fun movie created by a production company of bold film students. Story has it these young filmmakers didn't wait for Hollywood to call. They got together and created Hollywood right in their own backyards.
Avenging Disco Vampires tells the story of 2 crooks who find themselves unwittingly a part of the rumble between two rival vampire gangs. To take this film seriously would be a mistake. It is intentionally campy and marinates happily in its low-budget splendor. Albeit a tad long, it has enough entertainment and talent to keep you interested. Highlights include Carus Waggoner's portrayal of Free Love - the leader of the gang called the Bloods; an exploding, roller-skating vampire named Hott Wheelz; and a tribute to disco dance inside of a barn.
Jacob and Frank, the unlikely heroes are played well by the two lead actors and the off-kilter Vampire hunter is mind-bogglingly odd. There are a variety of interesting characters throughout this film and the contrast between the disco vampires and the more Gothic Crypts is well done with lighting, costume and characterization.
Don your bell bottoms and sequins and grab some popcorn!
Joshua (2002)
Not about the "Second Coming"
Contrary to the suggested plot line on the IMDb main page about this film, it is not supposed to be a story of the second coming. It is not intended to suggest that this is the way it might be...The book on which the film is based is by Joseph F. Girzone and its complete title is "Joshua - a parable for today"...Parables are not true stories. They are intended to make a point using ideas we are familiar with so that we can relate to them. This book (and thus the film) is simply a "What if". What if Jesus joined us here on Earth today? What might happen? What sorts of things might he do in our modern times? How might people react? Girzone's intention was not to suggest that this is what will happen when Jesus makes his second appearance. It is a fiction piece and nothing more. It should be enjoyed as such.
Folks who have not read the Joshua books might find that they are much better than this film. I enjoyed the film, but it is not a good representation of the book.
If You Could See What I Hear (1982)
A Favorite!
I am also one who watched this movie multiple times when it ran on cable in the 80's...It is one of my favorites. I have never understood why it was skewered by critics. In one of my Video Guides it was actually given a turkey (meaning that they thought it was so bad that it didn't even deserve a rating using the star system!).
I have the book that the movie was based on. But I actually enjoy the movie more. Marc Singer is wonderful as Tom Sullivan...All of the actors were good in this film, the story is uplifting and I still enjoy watching it. For those looking for it on video...check out Ebay and half.com :) :)

Time Changer (2002)
Good one for a church group - not gonna impress a skeptic.
My biggest gripe with films that are made by my Christian bretheren is that many times the dialogue and story lines are hoaky. They contain great messages and wonderful points, but too often they can really only be appreciated by other Christians.
I did appreciate "Time Changer"'s the message about absolute truth/higher authority...Still, I wouldn't choose it as a vehicle to encourage non-believers to consider accepting God into their lives. The best scenes were the ones with Paul Rodriguez who I don't believe is even a Christian, but he's darn funny and his performance was the most honest. And that's the thing, I can think of a number of Mainstream/Secular film ("Bruce Almighty", for example) to share Christian concepts with a non-believer.
Contemporary Christian music is getting more and more "solid"...I look forward to when more Christian Films will as well (Thank you, Mel Gibson, for "The Passion"!)...
