So bad, it boggles the brain
18 January 2005
"Hmmm," I think as i enter the IMAX theater "Misadventures. must be some kind of documentary on failed expeditions." How wrong I was. Oooh, how painfully wrong. This poorly dubbed "informational" movie is nothing more than a self advertisement for 3d movies disguised as a pathetic attempt to educate children on the human eye. I couldn't stand the professor, I was annoyed by the news anchor and I wanted to take a baseball bat to that bothersome bucket o' bolts they called a robot! And how about the plot? A scientifically incorrect story about a scientist caught in the second dimension. What are they trying to tell kids? Unless these people live in a universe without time, they don't live in the third dimension. Besides all that, the 3d effects were OK but not anything revolutionary. Informational(?) Wow. Anyone who thinks that this was a better movie than Baby Geniuses 2 obviously has never had to suffer through this sad 74 minute excuse for a feature film. I would have to say that I would rather watch an hour and a half of Public Access TV or even static than have to torture myself by viewing Manos again. If the government took suspected terrorists and made them watch this video until they gave up information, we wouldn't even have to interrogate them! The acting was terrible, there was no comprehensible plot and machinery at a construction site sounds better than its soundtrack. If you for whatever reason MUST watch this movie, then do yourself a favor and watch the MST3k version. And one more thing: "Manos" means "hand in Spanish, making the translated title "Hand: The Hands of Fate."

Drama (wait, there was drama in this movie?) Movie Score (1/10) Overall Movie Score (1/10) Not Recommended to anyone who does not want to kill off their brain cells

They just don't make them like they used to
15 December 2004
The 1977 TV movie "Santa Clause is Coming to Town" is by far the best Rankin/Bass movie and one of the best Christmas movies altogether. This family classic is about the early life of "Kris Kringle" and his road to becoming the man everyone knows as Santa Clause. Its humorous comprehensible plot and excellent character building make this movie a keeper. The catchy songs easily get stuck in your head and the brilliant animation style is fun to watch. All of the new Christmas movies so far have failed to impress me. The (Jim Carrey) Grinch was in my opinion a cheesy shallow take on what Christmas is all about and the Polar Express was too caught up in the special effects. However, Santa Clause is coming to Town takes you back to the true meaning of Christmas. So next time you're wondering how reindeer fly or why Santa goes down chimneys, watch Santa Clause is Coming to Town.\ Christmas Movie Score (8.5/10) Overall Movie Score (8/10) Recommended

An overrated remake of a Christmas classic
26 November 2004
The 1966 animated "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" always has been and always will be one of my favorite Christmas movies. However, I was doubtful when I first got word of there being a live-action remake of the holiday classic, regardless of it starring the likes of the renowned Jim Carrey. Hoping to prove myself wrong, I watched the 104 minute film, only to be disappointed by the lack of relevance to the book and the failed attempt to re-write the plot of the book to make it last for 1 hour and 40 minutes.I do understand that many people enjoyed this movie, and I respect that. However, in my opinion the movie is mediocre, and nothing more. Stick with the 1966 version. Trust me on this.

A well-deserved movie for an excellent series (1 small spoiler)
23 November 2004
Warning: Spoilers
Four years ago, when I first heard that my favorite animated series was being brought to the big screen, needless to say I was ecstatic. Over time, I've seen plenty of disappointing adaptations of TV series, such as the much anticipated "Pokemon the First Movie" and, most recently, the weak "Yu-Gi-Oh the Movie". But Digimon was different. Although it may not have been a perfect movie in the myriad of overall excellent films, It was the perfect Digimon movie. I do not think they could have done a better job. There was a perfect balance of drama and humor, seriousness and sarcasm, just what Digimon is all about. A great comprehensible plot is depicted, plus it expanded on the Tai/Sora romance hinted in Season 1. Overall if you are a digimon fan or just want to know what it's all about, don't miss this one.

Better than your average Pokemon Clone
23 November 2004
5 years ago, I'm watching a commercial break during the original Pokemon. All of a sudden, I see an interesting commercial: a new anime show named "Digimon." "Hmmm.." I think to myself. "Probably some half-baked rip-off of Pokemon. Oh well. I guess I might as well watch it anyway." To my surprise and utter delight, what I watched a week later was by no means some Pokemon clone as I had anticipated. I had found myself wrapped up in an original masterpiece that had me immediately hooked. That first season of Digimon had me engaged from the opening segment of the first episode to the last scene of the final episode in a complex web of character building, good and evil and an occasional hinted romance. Though the next 3 installments were also great, they have not surpassed the glory of season 1. Though the series is indefinitely canceled, you can still catch re-runs on Jetix or through tapes. But I must warn you: You WILL Be hooked.
