Daisy Jones & The Six (2023)
How does this crap have 8 stars???
I hate to be one of those "It's not like the book people" but I was reallllly looking forward to this and it just sucks.
Daisy was supposed to be ethereal and waify and *captivating* and she is none of those in this. This is a trite, hallmark- movie version of a cool book about sex drugs, and rock 'n' roll that I thought was based on Fleetwood Mac. These two actors have no charisma and are nothing like Lindsay and Stevie. BORING!!!
I suppose they capture the 70s time period and the cinematography is good but it's all style and no substance. I need good characters to care about and could not get past the first episode...
Outer Range (2022)
If you like weird shows you will like this
This show is so weird. Not LOST weird but more like time traveling cowboy weird...one of whom has crystal visions just like Stevie Nicks and sings about them.
Yes it's a slow burn but is that bad?
I know some said they had it figured out by ep. 3, but I didn't and I often figure out shows well in advance. This one really kept me guessing.
It did not turn into a soap opera as some have said and the finale was not disappointing - I am very intrigued for what a season 2 might bring!
Amazon has made some really great (and strange) shows lately - 3 Pines, Night Sky and Outer Range. I hope they keep it up because I enjoyed all of these immensely.
Keep up the good weird, Amazon!!
Magnum P.I. (2018)
This show has everything - it's just pure onscreen FUN
Don't listen to the haters who clearly are only hating because they can't see past the Tom Selleck version. I was too young for that one so I came into this with fresh eyes and it's GREAT.
You've got *gorgeous* Hawaii scenery, beautiful people, characters you truly care about and lots of laughs. Someone said the dialog felt forced and I have never once felt that at all.
I have both laughed and been moved to tears by this show and that's truly a feat for something considered "fluff." These actors seem to be genuinely close friends off screen and it shows in their chemistry. I'd say this is more a show about the deep bond between friends than crime-fighting. There is a good amount of respect for veterans in here too and I don't think we see that enough in our culture.
I will say that my only complaint is that nearly every person in this has been shot at least twice and they never have any visible scars when they are seen surfing or swimming! If you can suspend your disbelief on that one trivial issue then you will enjoy this very fun and even heartwarming show.
Tell Me Your Secrets (2021)
Bloody and disturbing, lots of triggers
I like crime shows and mystery thrillers but this was WAY more gory and violent than I expected.
There is also a tremendous amount of time spent on a terrifying rapist stalker that was very hard to watch.
This started out very interesting but the last episode was just asinine - a rushed wrap up that made me regret wasting my time on the quite unpleasant parts of the series.
The Last Blockbuster (2020)
Netflix did not kill Blockbuster?! Whoa!
This was a very fun documentary, especially for the nostalgia. There was so much more to going to the video store than I realized and I miss it! It was also cool to hear how it was not Netflix that killed Blockbuster as we all seem to assume. I won't spoil it and tell you what their real downfall was, you'll just have to watch and see for yourself . 😁
The Beach Bum (2019)
This movie insulted my intelligence and my dignity
I love McConaughey, and Snoop, and Martin Lawrence but I spent the whole first hour thinking "when do I turn this off and stop wasting my time?" That time came after my intelligence as an avid movie-lover was sorely abused when they "jumped the shark" after introducing Martin Lawrence. These actors were not even used for their talents, merely their names and I have no idea why such stars would even sign onto this except for an easy paycheck. I wanted to love this but I hated it. This film was just gross in what the makers tired to pass off as good cinema and frankly I am a little disgusted with myself for giving it a whole hour before calling it quits. The cinematography alone pressed me to give it more than one star.
Nobody's Fool (2018)
I don't understand all the bad reviews
I had more laughs from this than any comedy I've seen in a long time. I like Tiffany Haddish and I think she carries the film. Her facial expressions alone make me laugh out loud. Go into this not expecting much and you will be entertained.
