The Entitled (2011)
Not so smart
The main issue that I have with this movie is that it tries to be incredibly smart; when in fact, it skates over a lot of the lose ends that left me feeling Paul would never get away with this crime in the real world. Maybe, 20 or 30 years ago before forensic evidence practices and knowledge of the human psyche were not so abundant among the general population this movie would have looked smart. Hence, this movie tries to portray the idea of a "perfect crime," sadly people who watch any type of crime TV or even crime dramas like CSI, will be shaking their heads.
The movie does offer up some plot twists which add an element of intelligence in one sense, yet the movie completely loses that edge with some dumb moves. I cannot state them all here as they would give away too much of the movie and I don't want to do that, but just silly little things negate the idea of this being a masterful crime.
However, I will point out a few of these said flaws so people know what I am talking about when they see it. To start with, the accomplices Paul chooses are not shall we say the most stable of people, which will be evident from the beginning. Now the movie works itself around in a way where this becomes a positive for Paul. While I can see the point in Paul picking the individuals he did it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that neither one of his accomplices are stable enough, let alone smart enough to play the roles Paul wants them to play by the end of the movie.
In the way of forensic evidence there are even more flaws. Paul's prints are all over the location used, at one point in the movie he even vomits in the toilet... can anyone say DNA? Not to mention, his fingerprints are all over some key pieces of evidence *coughCELLPHONEcoughSHOTGUNcough.*
I really wanted to like this movie and there are some smart parts and some good twists but the stupidity of the rest of it is just too much for me. I guess the people who wrote this were hoping the audience would be dumb, or so dazzled by the twists that they wouldn't notice...
O_O
As far as the acting goes everyone did a pretty good job. While I am a fan of Victor Garber and his portrayal of Jack from the hit TV serious Alias, this performance here as a father is just too over the top and theatrical for my tastes. Sorry Victor. The rest of the cast holds up well and Kevin Zegers is chilling as Paul, yet his character doesn't quite add up. Around mid movie he gets emotional over something one of his accomplices does, yet he turns around at the end of the movie and does the same exact thing without blinking an eye... mmmmm, is one plus one still two?
Overall this is an okay movie to watch if you're bored or like one of the actors in here, but this is not a brilliant movie by any stretch of the means, sadly it tries to be and falls way short.
She Spies (2002)
She Spies
I never saw the first season of She Spies, but I caught most of the second season and really enjoyed it. I was really sorry when the show got cancelled. I don't think it ever got the credit it deserved. You could really tell the all the actors had a good time on the show. It was a fun light show to watch. There was always humor between the action to keep the show running smoothly. The only thing that I disliked about the show was some of the action scenes; they were too cheesy. I was sorry to have seen it get cancelled, I would've like to have seen a couple more seasons to watch the characters grow and progress, but no such luck :(
Birth (2004)
Interesting Movie.
I must admit that after I watched this movie I was more then slightly disappointed with it. Then I got to thinking, and came to the conclusion that I was to harsh in making my judgement. I gave this movie a 7 after careful thought; it's certainly a movie that makes you think. This movie is not for someone who's looking for an action packed slamming doors and emotional outbursts type of drama. Birth moves at a slow pace, but still goes fast enough to keep you interested. If you have the ability to sit through a slower paced movie then you'll be rewarded in this one with the movie's rich symbolism; which is everywhere you look! The movie's ending left me feeling slightly unfulfilled, and asking the question "Yeah but then what?" Then again after I thought the ending through I became more content with it. Overall after thinking the movie through I say it's an interesting movie that was well thought out in the way it was presented to the audience. Will I buy the DVD? No. Will I ever watch Birth again? Probably not. However it was good, nothing fantastic, but good; If you like more intellectual types of movies that make you think, and don't give you a definite ending then 100% go and see it. Even if you don't it's still not a bad movie to see. All the symbolism will explain a lot. There's only two things I must tell you before you watch it, it'll help to cut down on the disappointment factor. 1) Don't expect a happy ending where everything works out in the end; (that was my problem lol.) Anyway; 2) Is that you shouldn't expect to come away with any definite answers about the fate of these characters. The symbolism will help you explain most of it if you pay attention, but there's also the ending symbolism that basically depends how you personally interpret things. If you follow those to rules then watching Birth should be an interesting, and intellectual experience. Enjoy!
Saw (2004)
One Of The Dumbest Movies I've Ever Seen!
I'll Start of by saying that the ending did provide a small twist that I didn't expect, however it leaves you feeling completely unsatisfied. Actually looking back now I feel like I've been tricked and a bit of an idiot. (If you've watched the movie's ending you'll know what I mean)
Overall however, this movie was a joke, the concept was good, but it just didn't work for me. For starters Cary Elwes acting is horrid. By the end of the movie I was actually laughing out loud and thinking to myself "how in the world did Elwes ever get an acting job?" I felt nothing emotionally for any of the characters. A lot of the actors lines were cheesy. The movie had a few scenes that were a little creepy, but nothing that got my heart racing.I think what annoyed me most was how completely stupid the director ends up making most of the characters look. There were several times near the end of the movie where the characters could have stopped(remains nameless),but I guess none of these people were blessed with what would be referred to as "common sense." I understand that the director wanted to draw out the climax to make it more action packed and interesting, but he didn't need to destroy the characters intelligence to accomplish this.
If your looking for a good psychological thriller/horror movie like "Scilence Of The Lambs" then you'll be really disappointed in this one. The best advice I have is to save your money for a better movie and sit this one out, but if you're dead set on seeing it rent the DVD first! If you're like me you'll be glad you did!
Trust me by the end of this movie you'll have wished you could have borrowed Elwes saw to cut off your head because you'll feel like a complete idiot that you wasted your time(and money)on this!
