The Flash (2023)
Can't understand why people complain, it was pretty good
Came to see Michael Keaton as Batman for one last time, stayed for a good story !
The script was definitely good. It does justice to important Flash storyline, and even adds a little bit more.
Acting was good, Ezra Miller might have offscreen issues but he does good job on camera, and basically everyone else are good too. Michael Keaton does shine in his scenes as Batman to my delight. Supporting cast is good as well. Lots of cameos here, and they didn't feel forced at all. Some brought smile to my face. Only slight disappointment is there wasn't more of Michael Shannon (General Zod), he is usually a very good addition to a movie.
CGI was OK, didn't notice what people are complaining to, and it certainly wasn't distracting from the story.
The movie was fun, had it's serious and it's humourous moments (mostly hits) and they were overall well balanced.
Last act does feel a little bit below first 2/3 of a movie therefore I'm giving it 8/10 and not more.
People should see this in a movie theatre, it is one of the better movies of the year, don't listen to critics.
Dark (2017)
A show basically everyone should watch
I heard of this TV show from friends back when it debuted, but I didn't watch it until now for one simple fact - I dislike German language 🙂
So basically I refused to watch it although everyone around me kept saying it's great just for that one reason.
A few nights ago I was bored, I was scrolling up and down on Netflix app, and for some reason I decided to finally give it a try, like fine I'll watch it, but only one episode.
Well, I found myself immediately hooked, this TV show is simply made for binge-watching, after every episode you want more details of this great story, I just couldn't stop myself until I watched all episodes in just 2 days (lucky me it was weekend).
Everything about this TV show is great, story is absolutely fantastic and it's probably the best time-travelling story ever filmed, acting is superb, directing as well...
Do yourself a favor and watch it !
Chernobyl: Vichnaya Pamyat (2019)
10/10 after 20,000 votes says everything
"We're dealing with something that has never occurred on this planet before".
Applies both on the event this series talked about and the perfect 10 score of this episode, even Breaking Bad doesn't have episode like that which speak volumes.
One of the best episodes of definitely the best mini-series of all times.
And it makes watching E1 even more unsettling after knowing what actually caused the explosion.
Will say nothing more, if you haven't already, watch this masterpiece of a show ASAP, thank you HBO.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
Disappointing ending, we all wanted more
Writing this while still watching, but leaks were truth so I know the ending.
Writing is terrible, scene with Tyrion and Jon is yet another example - first he says he can't justify Dany's actions and a minute later he does exactly that in the very same scene...!?
A queen is killed in a room with zero bodyguards in yet another highly unsatisfying scene.
Writing will unfortunately go down in history as an ultimate bad example of how not to write. It's almost like they tried to do their worst for a bet or something, completely unexplainable.
Anyway, would like to thank the show for memories from S1-S6 and partly S7, I will try to forget S8 ever existed and that's it.
Bye GoT
Chernobyl (2019)
Restored my faith in HBO
...after that fiasco S8 of Game of Thrones is.
Immediately sucks you into the story.
Very realistic and detailed, very atmospheric.
It makes you feel like you are there.
(which is something I particularly appreciate)
Be warned, it's not an easy watch, it will make you think about devastating effects of an invisible killer nothing can stop, radiation, which is not a pleasant thought.
The only thing could make it even better and to add to it's already high level of realism was if it was filmed in Russian, but I guess that would be asking for too much.
In short, this is a top-notch TV, if you are interested in watching something that will really capture your attention and leave you thinking - this is absolutely it.
Game of Thrones: The Dragon and the Wolf (2017)
S7 wasn't perfect, but compared to S8 it is a masterpiece
Writing this before S8E6 aka the final episode.
Season 7 had it's problems for sure, but if we only knew what will come upon us in S8 we would endlessly praise it for it's glorious writing.
This is where the show should have ended, and it should be left for GRR Martin to finish his books before start filming again.
Character arcs were still untouched and we had high hopes for ending.
Final season, the way it was written, completely destroyed the show.
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
"Subverting expectations"
It looked good, I'll give them that.
Technically flawless - they finally achieved that, in E5 !
However, when you start thinking about decisions writers made, it just screams NO.
On way too many levels.
1) Basically all the prophecies went down the water - "Valonqar" being the last one.
Cersei dies, but not by any of her brothers.
Huuuge letdown.
2) Daenerys suddenly decides she wants to be "queen of ashes" and goes mad, burning the city and killing thousands of innocent civilians.
Which goes completely against her character arc.
3) Amidst chaos, Euron and Jaime have totally unnecessary and pointless fight where they (basically) kill each other.
Instead of joining their forces.
4) Arya is there, and expectations are she will use some of her faces to do something important in King's Landing (maybe killing Cersei). Nope. She doesn't do anything, just tries to help civilians (unsuccessfully) and that's it, eventually she just leaves.
Oh yeah, using her thick plot armor along the way.
5) The Mountain denies obeying Cersei and Qyburn and even kills Qyburn out of nowhere (?!). That, in fact, made me laugh.
The only logical parts are Jon and Tyrion are shocked with Daenerys' sudden dragon attack, and Varys being burned by Daenerys for treason. Oh yes, absolutely no explanation of what he saw in flames when he was younger.
Casual fans will probably be pleased with Cleganebowl, it did look good.
So there it is, they once again subverted our expectations !
Game of Thrones (2011)
Was there with Breaking Bad, but after Season 8 it will sadly become a meme
Seasons 1-4 10/10.
Seasons 5-6 9/10
Season 7 8/10
Season 8 3/10.
Overall that gives the average of 8.6/10 so it should be 9, but I'll give it 8 because writing of Season 8 leaves show with absolutely no rewatch value.
Don't know what to say besides I am very disappointed, and the infamous expression "subverting expectations" will probably be what we will remember from this show.
Game of Thrones: The Last of the Starks (2019)
Writers clearly decided to go for some kind of unexpected ending, but they're sacrificing common sense for that
I won't comment E3, I'm still too furious over that to write unbiased critique, so I'm going straight to E4.
Things simply don't make too much sense any more. (let's be honest, they didn't for a while ago, but dedicated viewers were willing to go over that that in expectations of some glorious ending)
Second dragon goes down straight out of nowhere, way too easy in my opinion.
Important characters still don't die, but with secondary it's another story, they are more and more expendable !
Missandei plotline doesn't really work, if they captured her why would they kill her ?
Wouldn't be better if they strategically kept her as a hostage ?
The idea is obvious - they want to make Dany a mad queen after she lost most people she cares, but the way they're doing it, it just feels too forced and unnatural.
All the Starks are useless this episode.
Jamie suddenly decides to betray Brienne and leaves path of his redemption to seek for Cersei once again, really ?
General feeling is they're improvising too much, and not in a good way.
I wonder why actors themselves didn't rebel against this, from some interviews it's clear they didn't like the writing as well.
I'm in disbelief TV show which was once concidered to be one of the best in history is going in this direction !
5/10 for directing and acting, actors and director are doing great job with what's been given to them !
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
One can only hope books ending will be different
Writing for the show has realistically gone downhill since S6 but this episode particularly is a slap in the face for every thinking fan.
Death of what once was one of the greatest villains in TV history comes all out of nowhere and leaves you in state of shock, but that's it, it only has a shock value while in terms of plot
it adds absolutely nothing, in fact it takes away a lot of potentially interesting storylines.
Not since the ending of How I met your mother I felt this cheated by a TV show, shame on you writers.
Technically, it was a well done episode although it was (literally) too dark, so even there you have unusual room for complaints for GoT standards.
Therefore it's 5/10, probably even didn't deserve that.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
"Elysium" meets "Ready Player One", with a little bit of anime flavour added
Can't believe how easily people give 10s on IMDb these days, common people, that should be saved for real masterpieces only ! Not that it means Alita is a bad movie by any means, it just isn't a 10 movie. PROS:
- spectacular visuals, this film was made for big screen 3D projections, go see it in theaters for full enjoyment, after all James Cameron produced it
- Character of Alita, done pretty well both physically and in terms of motivation, you could empathize with her reasoning and actions
- for me, film suffered from lack of identity, scene after scene I just thought of wow, the script is similar to Elysium and wow, those visuals kinda remind me of Ready Player One; they should have told the story of this world a little bit better so we could attach more
- script generally, there are some plot holes here, film requires you not to think too much about them
- acting, besides computerally rendered Alita which was done perfectly, other big names involved disappointed me a little bit, especially Mahershala Ali who just didn't bring his A game here, and it could be told the same about Jennifer Connelly and partially Christoph Waltz, all of them won Oscars and just didn't justify that here
- the movie ends unexpectedly in the middle of action, clearly setting a sequel idea.
I recommend you go to this mostly for fun, just enjoy visuals, don't over-analyze script and you will be pleased 🙂
