Predictable, vulgar and nasty
8 April 2014
I watched this movie hoping for something with the charm of "Father of the Bride" and the humor from "Something's Gotta Give." Instead I got the raunchiness of "American Pie" mixed with the look of a Hallmark movie. Horrendous script, unlikable characters, several plot holes and it just didn't make me feel good at all. Thank goodness it was only 89 minutes. Literally everything I predicted in the movie in the first 20 minutes happened. I'm not even kidding you, it's true. That's how lazy, predictable and dull the plot in this movie is. I enjoy a chick flick every now and then because they give me that warm, fuzzy feeling. This made me feel like I was in a high school locker room. "Let's cheat on our spouses and talk about our sex lives to our kids and in-laws! Yeah! Nothing weird about that!" Nasty, vulgar dialogue, domestic abuse, and stale jokes. I detest this movie. The only decent thing about it was its cinematography.

Fun '90s cheese
18 February 2014
I don't care if critics hated this movie, I liked it a lot. Sometimes you just gotta let your brain rest and watch something ridiculous and fun. It's one of my guilty pleasures. Most people go into this movie thinking it's supposed to be some really big drama but if you just look at it as a cheesy movie from the '90s that you can laugh at, I think you'll enjoy. Is the acting over the top and overly dramatic? Yes. Is it predictable? Yes. Are there really outdated sets and costumes? You betcha! But that's all part of the fun in my opinion. If you're looking for a drama with a really serious tone, this is not for you. But if you have a good sense of humor and you just wanna laugh at something tacky and overly dramatic, then this is the movie for you.

Silly but fun!

Of course you really don't have to "get" the humor of the cheesy 1960's sitcoms to enjoy this movie. The film is much darker than the actual television series itself, but I enjoyed it. It was funny... a silly kind of funny, and that is exactly how the Addams family is.

I really liked the casting of this film. Raul Julia made a very suave Gomez. Anjelica Houston was beautiful, and she came off as sweet yet wonderfully macabre, just as Morticia should be! And let's not forget Christopher Lloyd's Uncle Fester. You could really tell he had fun portraying him. Christina Ricci as Wednesday was also enjoyable. I find most child actors annoying, but she was quiet and kept character very well.

The plot was interesting but a bit predictable. The music was good, nothing special, but it fit the movie quiet well. If you're a fan of dark humor you would enjoy this film. I love to watch it around Halloween. And even if it is a bit cheesy, (yes I'll admit) I found it enjoyable, entertaining and overall fun.
