The Gray Man (2022)
A WHOLE LOT of meat on this bone.
Like, a shipping container full of tender, juicy chicken. Wrapped in barrels of bacon. Smothered in BBQ sauce. If you've got the stomach for this, you're in for a most delicious meal. Absolutely no one needs this movie to exist. I greatly appreciate that it does.
I haven't had this much fun watching an action movie since I watched "Commando" when I was 10 years old. (Which, to be fair, is the most appropriate age to be able to enjoy it.)
Les frères Sisters (2018)
Some really good parts of a film.
There's too much missing here for me to really enjoy it, but like I said as the credits started to roll: I've seen worse. All actors carry their own, but should have been given more to carry.
This review is meta.
Moonbase 8 (2020)
Enjoyable, not "must see".
And it doesn't need to be.
That being said, who WOULDN'T move a moonbase for better feng shui..? Clearly it needed to be done, doubletime.
6 Days (2017)
Solid historical drama.
Brief comment only:
Period-appropriate news diction was ridiculous. Having to reenact it, based on a fair few other reviews, is quite the thankless task.
Which was more ridiculous, news diction, or the diction of Mrs. Thatcher at the end?
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
Really well done old school horror.
That's it, really. Well rounded, solid acting all around. Superfluous last minute or so, but forgivable for keeping true to the old school feel.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Masterful.
It is not often that a re-interpretation manages the herculean task of not being LESS THAN its source material. This work ADDS TO the source, indeed it adds to the genre. Respectful nods to other works, with which it might arguably (in my opinion rightfully) be mentioned with the same breath are present, and, I would argue, should be taken as intentional statement of love and intent from the artists behind this masterpiece.
Tokyo Eyes (1998)
I actually survived this...
Being a long-time fan of Japanese film, I expected more than this. I can't really be bothered to write to much, as this movie is just so poor. The story might be the cutest romantic little something ever, pity I couldn't stand the awful acting, the mess they called pacing, and the standard "quirky" Japanese story. If you've noticed how many Japanese movies use characters, plots and twists that seem too "different", forcedly so, then steer clear of this movie. Seriously, a 12-year old could have told you how this movie was going to move along, and that's not a good thing in my book.
Fans of "Beat" Takeshi: his part in this movie is not really more than a cameo, and unless you're a rabid fan, you don't need to suffer through this waste of film.
