Cannes Confidential (2023)
I wanted to like this one but...
But (as you may have guessed), I didn't. Let me explain why.
This is classic detective-fun-glorious scenery-not to take seriously crime series. Main actors are very attractive and obviously the french scenery is very beautiful.
If it didn't take itself seriously and had a bit of comidic tone it might have worked better, for example the Mallorca Files are excellent series.
Here though, the main female protagonist is way too young to be a lieutenant, she is always overdressed for the occation (ie arriving at the crime scene with high heel boots like she is going to a party) and she is also mainly being pissed of about everything. Last but not least, she cannot act.
Bamber is ok, he seems charming , not over the top but the writers have him restrained in terms of his part as a counterweight to the Lucie Lucas importance to the series.
It might have been an entertaining series but the characters are dull, the crime story not interesting enough and the final product is more of a miss than a hit.
Blackout (2022)
Amaaaaaazingly bad movie
Totally rubbish movie:
-music score repetative and annoying, its like the took it from an 80's video game and pasted it in this movie without caring if it fits or not
-illogical plot with incosistent twists. Bad guys become good guys and vice versa without any good reason
-bad action scenes with slow motion to fill the gaps, bad guys shot millions of bullets at close range bad manage to hit our nerves instead of the good guy
-dialogues tha are gonna make you laugh with the cringynesss
-movie fights that are badly edited and choreographed and totally ignore the laws of phisics.
-bad actor performance from all actors. Maybe they have not read the script before signing up or maybe they needed the check and they didn't care but they all seem like they are reading it from an auto-cue and they don't actually believe any of the words cvoming out of their mouths.
Now you may ask why I finished it? Well I was folding clothes for my wife which is boring and I thought that I need to do something more boring to feel better. Well mission accomplished!
The Lazarus Project (2022)
Great start, but then went downhill
It really started very strong, very original, very interesting, despite not well explaining how the whole thing was working. I can live with that, time travel, time loops are very difficult subjects that always leave things not explained perfectly. After all this is entertainment and we (the viewers) can forgive some of the logic on the science part. What is unforgivable though is the rest of the action and drama that is really messed.
To be more specific, our main hero becomes from an app developer to a James Bond super-agent killing machine exterminating all his obstacles without problems. He never misses, while all the other people suffer from the star war empire forces not being able to hit him even if they outnumbering him. He comes and goes into the HQ taking and doing whatever he wants without anyone noticing anything. Also, Archie (who is an MI5 agent) one moment is smart while 5 minutes later totally stupid. Furthermore, while everyone else is sacrificing some of the loved ones, he loses nothing. In the end of the last episode his gf who is behaving the most erratic way, not only lives but also takes the "magic" syrum and everything becomes peachy between them.
In conclusion, the show starts very strong (the story arcs of Archie and Rebrov are topnotch) but in the last 3 episodes it transforms from a gripping sci-fi drama to a childish cartoon version of itself. Shame because it had so much potential...
