It starts off well, until the Predator falls in love.

The humans die all too easily.

The Aliens are only too predictable.

This needed to be tenser and scarier, it's not enough to make you shiver. Having said all this, the aliens have never looked better.

It does leave the series open for more of the same.

A stronger, more established cast could help future releases.

It's time for Arnie to return, just one last time.

Send both the Aliens and the Predators against him. Whoever loses, he wins.

This film was poor by Ridley Scott's standards. In essence, this is a dumbed-down script adapted from a strange book that, on screen gives the audience an impression that a fantastic director has been rushed in to direct a film adapted from a book that has been based on a script written to encourage young people to make films. It's a sloppy screenplay, the film looks like it's been cut together from a 5-10 hour movie to fill approximately 2 hours of screen-time. It also looks like Scott has had to cut down scenes dramatically to give the film a sharper, more audience friendly look (like Gladiator- also directed by Scott). However, where Gladiator suited Scott's talents, Hannibal does not. Scott is better at visuals than he is at directing actors, Hopkins looks bored this time round, as does Oldman (barely noticeable after his make-up), as does Liotta - in a very Liotta role, and Moore is not really given any opportunity to act, she just merely looks dull, upset, and acts like a betrayed tough FBI agent as the screenplay prompts her to. The violence that appears randomly in this film gives the audience the impression that the film-makers want the audience to feel like they are watching violence in a manga cartoon rather than a film, it's pointless to take this film seriously.

As I said, this films lacks any sense of originality anywhere. This film is unoriginal. This film is too-long. Denzel Washington has become dependent on big budgets. Christopher Walken is Christopher Walken, in every film he's in. The plot is dull and when I saw it, I could guess the outcome of every single scene. Tony Scott still has not made a classic film to date. WHY was this film made? I could not give you a truly honest answer, except to entertain the audience mindlessly with brutality. Recommended tag-line, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back meets The Passion of The Christ meets Ransom meets Heat meets Hannibal meets CandyMan meets Leon meets Seven- rather pointlessly- like turning up to a professional football match featuring no strikers, no goalkeepers, no referee, no linesmen and no pitch.

A truly fantastic idea for a movie. I feel they (the film-makers) should have made it with the futuristic approach.

Woo and Travolta had already done this style of action flick before. Travolta, particularly when cast as Castor Troy acts like a carbon-copy of how he acted in Broken Arrow. Nicolas Cage is far better in both roles, he looks more in shape, scarier, and suitably way, way over the top, particularly as Castor Troy. The special visual and sound effects are outstanding, Woo uses his traditional slow-motion and gun-play to full-effect, also the earlier action scenes are better than in other films, Woo does action better than anyone else - forget The Matrix. Unfortunately, Cage and Travolta both look a little too old to be playing the fights out at times - hence noticeable stunt doubles. However, dark and very brutal in stages, Face/Off does look on screen like an action film that stands out from the rest- it would be interesting to see the film before the censors caught it, instead of the toned down cinema, video, DVD and TV versions. In conclusion, a must-see even 7 years after it's release.
