Garbage.

I was a fan of Sex in the City. This is GARBAGE. It was ok when 30 somethings behaved the way they behaved but there seems to be zero groth in any of the characters. The storilines seem super ridiculous and manufactured. The writing almost seems as worse for wear as Charlotte's face.face.

No thank you Chuck.

Warning: Spoilers
OMG. I only started watching this a few weeks ago after a friends semi suggestion. I initially thought it was ok. By the end of season one it had become my go to "background noise" show that I could have on while doing other things. By the end of season 2 I had basically come to dislike the repetitive nature of the show until Tony Hale showed up. I LOVE Tony Hale. To be honest...the best part of the show are the Buy More crew. I am currently in Chuck Hell. How many relationships and how many times is the show going to use the "will they or won't they" mechanism. It's boring and kinda dumb. Take a look at Jim and Pam from The Office...nuance, feeling...and so mych more. Doubt if I'll finish this one...so much better stuff to watch.

Ocean's Eight (2018)

Oceans 5

I spent the first part of the film matching up the characters with their male counterparts and quickly discovered this film was going to be woefully inadequate. I had hope for Blanchett aka Brad Pitt but she was underutilized. The rest of the cast simply lacked the charm and acting chops of their male counterparts. I love Sandra Bullock but she was more like Sandra Bland. The comedic parts were simply not there. They had an asian but the asian guy in 11 was funny as hell in what little time he was onscreen. The back and forth between Matt and Scott as brothers was simply fantastic. You don't have anything that comes close to that dynamic in this film. Rhi Rhi is nice yo look at than Bernie Mack but give me Bernie any day of the week. Where is Elliott Gould when you need him? I personally would have loved to see more Mindy Kaling. She's funny and charismatic.

For me, the most interesting character was the insurance investigator. I liked him, unfortunately he didnt show up until the third act. Ohhhh yeah, the story was also blah.

I read the book first and I should have stopped while I was ahead.
29 March 2018
I came across the book in a dollar store and figured I'd have something to read on my upcoming plane trip. I actually forgot about it until a week ago and started reading. I realized A List actors were on the cover and realized it was a movie. I decided to finish the book and watch the film after. I'd expect more from an ABC movie of the week. The speed at which the story unfolds is ridiculous and that is being generous. THE ACTING...only slightly better, On the plus side,,,if you're a fan of plot holes, you are in luck. If you enjoy an occasional, albeit brief views of the New York City skyline...you're in luck. In short, do yourself a favor and don't bother,

Ummmm NO!

Warning: Spoilers
Last year we were treated to Blake Lively's "The Shallows" which was little more than a showcase for her tight little body and admittedly cute posterior. I gave that film a "2" and as you guessed it by my "1" star rating, this is worse. This time there are two young ladies and while there are not "booty" shots, Mandy Moore does ask her much younger sister "does my butt at least look cute?" as she's wiggling into her dive suit. Oh, I almost forgot...the sisters are headed down below in a cage to see the sharks up close and personal. They hadn't planned on it but Mandy Moore's character got dumped by her boyfriend because "she was boring" and what better way to show him than to go off to Mexico and go down below with the sharks. "I wonder what he'd say if he could see you now" says her sister...AFTER they become stranded at the bottom.

This movie was so ridiculous I don't even know where to start. The foreshadowing? "If you drop my camera you'll have to pay for it" says one of the guys they went out on the boat with. Moments later...said camera was dropped. Shortly after that, the cage shook and there was mention of the fear of the cage dropping...moments later the cage plummets to the bottom and in case that wasn't suspenseful enough it drops again after the cable snaps in the middle of them being rescued.

How about suspense? Surely, sharks and the deep dark ocean lends itself to suspense. Sorry, there was seriously not one single moment where I was on edge. They put a lot of effort into using music to create suspense but that was about as cheesy as the dialog.

Is it just me or did those air tanks seem to last an awfully long time after initially being depleted so quickly in a very short in the beginning? Is it just me or is it strange that the shark was so very accurate in swallowing that tiny, tiny camera but somehow two fairly large (by comparison) human beings managed to be super elusive? The cheesy dialog, the horrific acting, the terrible CGI and a plethora of other negatives about this film aside...I have to say it was good to see Matthew Modine on the big screen again.

Wonder Woman (2017)
6/10
Underwhelmed but entertaining.
6 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I know I'm probably in the minority but for me Wonder Woman was not all that. Let me start with the good. 1. Gal is FINE! 2. The fight scenes were pretty cool. 3. It had a decent villain. 4. Gal is FINE! Now the bad.

1. I felt NOTHING. With Logan I felt something. I was connected With Ant Man I felt something (Joy) In Wonder woman, I cared so little about every character that no sooner than I left theater the film didn't register. This was the biggest one for me.

2. I didn't know the origin story but by the time Diana left the island without being "told the truth" I figured the sword wasn't't that big of a deal. It was also pretty obvious that the guy they wanted us to think was Ares...wasn't't. I was however surprised by who he turned out to be.

3. The only thing more irksome that Robin Wright Penn's accent was the contrived romantic and comedic elements. A few examples..."What's that?" "Oh, it's a watch" #CRICKETS The whole sleep with each other thing on the boat...#AWKWARD

4. The numerous things that made no sense. Exhibit A) Is it me or did it feel like the sole purpose of Steve's suicide mission was to serve as a catalyst for WW to get mad? Was there really no other way of disposing of the bombs? Exhibit B) It was established that gas masks were useless. I guess the British speaking German bad guys didn't get the message. Exhibit C) Since its creation, no one has ever stumbled across their island? There are a ton more nonsensical things that could have been put together tighter.

5. Continuity errors are common in films but how glaring was it when within a matter of seconds it went from daylight to pitch black? Think, motorcycle chase in Dark Knight Rises.

I would have liked...back story on The chemist or anyone. It would have been cool to see more of the Gods...maybe I missed a few things, I dozed off no fewer than 3 times. Is this better than B V S? Yeah. Is it the best DC film so far. Maybe, but it does not approach Dark Knight greatness.

SCORE 6.5/10

Here we go.
2 June 2017
I would have preferred...I even expected a little bit of Gob Bluth but Chip is cool in all his flawed-ness. I like the show, it feels like a refreshing slice of real life starring real people. Bits and pieces of the show remind me of my friends and I at various points in our lives. I love the fact that nothing is rushed (relationships) Now on to the real star of the show...The soundtrack. Every single episode I realize how fortunate I am to discover new music and new artists. I spent so much of the show looking up the songs I heard. Not since Gossip Girl have a watched a show with so much good music.

Iron Fist (2017–2018)

Iron "Snore" Fest
1 April 2017
As a kid Iron Fist was one of my favorite comic books and I was super excited when I heard it was coming. Four episodes in and I was posting on Facebook (to my dismay) that the show was utterly boring and 95% of the people that commented agreed. I decided that it could and would only get better. I was wrong. By the time I'd finished episode 10 I pretty much had decided that I would not be watching season two. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I had only downloaded 10 episodes and thought that was all there was but I was not shocked at how it ended or how I thought it ended because what I thought was the ending was similar to what I had seen. Well, I was wrong..there were two more episodes and I just finished watching episode 11 when I decided to voice my utter disappointment with this show. I'll watch 12 because I've gone this far but unless I hear or see folks raving about season 2, I won't be watching. I gave it a five because of Collen's body is pleasant to look at. Sorry if that sounds sexist. Well here is how I see the Marvel shows...Daredevil 9.8 Jessica Jones 9.0 Luke Cage 8.7 Iron Fist 5

The Great Wall (I) (2016)

Great Failure is more like it.
19 February 2017
I saw this movie about a month ago and I am so sorry I did. I already knew it would be horrible but a student invited me to see it and I didn't want to refuse. As a fan of Chinese cinema it was disappointing to see the Chinese film industry sell out. This is not debatable, they are quickly becoming a player in the movie market and while America kowtows to China to get a slice of the pie, China wants to expand their base...hence Matt Damon.

This film has been done often and with much better results. Anyone that think the action sequences are killer needs to watch Hero or Grandmasters or any number of other Chinese films. The story was beyond ridiculous and the acting was was just plain bad. Chinese people on the whole thought the film was HORRIBLE even with Matt Damon and I was inclined to believe that there would be no love from the American audience. At least they didn't fall into the cliché of "White man saves China and gets the girl" I guess their was someone with some pride on the scene. To be honest, I think my rating of 3 was slightly generous.

Just WOW!
6 February 2017
I really wanted to like this film as I am a Hemingway fan like many people. I read a few reviews that trashed the film and then I came across one that said "I don't know why all the bad reviews" and that was enough for me to download a check it out. The film started OK. I like Ribisi (Sneaky Pete)and Minka Kelly is simply beautiful but from there it goes down hill. If they had shown Cuba (ala Woody Allen New York/Rome/Paris etc) it would have been more watchable but they didn't and it wasn't.

The acting. Oh my goodness, to say it was wooden would be the understatement of the 21st century. The worst of the bunch is the guy that plays Hemingway. I've never seen or heard Hemingway in real life but I can't imagine he was the passionless bore he seemed to be. Maybe not a fair criticism but I like the way Hemingway was portrayed in Midnight in Paris. Halfway or so through the film, there is a get together and a confrontation of sorts between EH and his wife...here is where you get bad acting at it's finest. Ribisi seemed out of place but I believe that is more a product of a poorly written story than his skill set.

The story. How bad is it? Let me count the ways. Never mind, I have better things to do. How this is rated above "3" is beyond me.

Disappointed
8 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I'm writing this review with about 15 minutes left to go so that should tell you something. From the trailer I thought that this has potential and unless Mara's character is cut from the same cloth as Morgan, this movie makes ZERO sense. How else would you explain the beating she took? Now if Mara's character is cut from the same cloth...I the film was super predictable. I suppose if viewers hadn't concluded that Mara was the same type of being then the movie holds water but after the fall out of the window, who wouldn't have figured out what she was. Oh wait, I was right and wrong but mostly right. Either way...disappointing. On a positive note, the song that played during the credits was pretty cool. I'm going back to re-watching Happy Endings.

Blown Away
28 October 2016
How I love thee, let me count the ways. This is by far the best movie I've seen in years. Every single solitary moment was as good as or better than the next. So many emotions. The lifestyle the kids led took me back to my childhood. Viggo was every bit my father excluding the physical aspect of how he raised the kids. The juxtaposition of his children to the typical kid (especially American kid) was on full display once they arrived at the relatives (?) house. The scene where he asked his 8 year old about the Bill of Rights was magnificent. Oh, about 30 minutes in, the precocious kid on the bus that kept asking all the questions...was my friends daughter through and through and the ease in which he responded to the (inappropriate in the eyes of most) was pretty much my friend, explaining everything. I'm not even finished watching the movie, I have about 45 minutes to go (they just left the funeral) but I had to stop and write this. I've laughed, I've smiled uncontrollably and I've had to dry my juicy eyeballs and all three seemingly happens every 15 or so minutes during the film.

I have to finish up now...I Love this movie. I teach high school and I wish I could show every last one of my students.

A waste of time.
3 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Often my friends call me "snob" when it comes to movies...I guess I am. This movie makes the ABC movie of the week look like "Classics" Last year I had my students make short films. I gave them a month. More than a few were far superior to this film.

1. Picking up 2 random folks on a highway is always a dangerous thing to do but I wondered...where did they come from? I mean, did they see a broken down car somewhere? Maybe it's a Canada thing..."sure hop in" 2. I get that they weren't aware of the terrain (the cliff) BUT I would have thought they'd at least prepare...you know, food, maybe use some of the money they got off the old man to buy GLOVES, HATS etc.

3. The entire story was just ridic. The back story with the lost job. What was that? I just can't go on.

Suspension of Sophisticated Intelligence
28 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't planning on writing a review until 10 minutes ago when I came across an article about this film on Yahoo and the very first line read...

"There's a sophisticated intelligence behind this movie, manipulating suspense with unexpected twists. This does not happen very often."

You're kidding right? Any teen with half a brain could see every little so called "unexpected twist" from a mile away, even the dolphin bit. Yes, the dolphin bit. On a scale of ten, how likely was it that the shark was lurking that early in the film? ZERO.

Trust me, there were no new Blake fans after this film. If you liked her prior to this movie you liked her after. If you didn't like her before this film...guess what? She is one dimensional with two facial expressions both of which are cringe worthy at best. Is the whole "mouth open" thing supposed to be sexy? It's not. Hold up. With the exception of her bit in THE TOWN, she sucks as an actress. The Age of Adeline was OK but puhlease.

It gets a 2 because she has a pretty tight body, which this film is basically a vehicle for. So, yeah, I'm not sexist the people who made this film (they knew what they were doing) are.

Warning: Spoilers
WOW...color me impressed. I just finished up and I have to say with the exception of a few moments that make me scratch my head in disbelief, I have to say this is a very good film. I was really shocked at how it ended with the two characters. I knew the dog would come into play sooner or later but where were the dudes people? Did they think he just stayed out in the rain. How unexpected was it that the very end played out like it did? VERY but I liked it. My questions below.

What was up with the little boy? What happened to the hooker? Why did 8 have so few men around him? How on earth did dude manage to sneak up on him with all that open space? It is so weird that I find myself pulling for these bad guys?

"8" really just wants a better life and he loves his girl. The girl just had his back and loved him...I guess. This was a suspenseful film and having lived in Italy, it's always a pleasure to see the country on film. I have no idea what the one guy that rated this film "1" was thinking about but after looking at his other ratings it would appear he is a kid that has no clue. Watch it. Solid 8 for me maybe 8.5 but I can't give half points and it's closer to 8 than 9.

About Time (I) (2013)
10/10
Yes, Yes, Yes.
7 January 2016
I watched this movie a few years ago and loved it. I walked in my classroom and my students were watching it and I insisted that it be transferred to my usb so I could watch it again. My friend came to visit me for Christmas and we went through several OK films and then I suggested we watch this one again. I'm glad I did. He enjoyed it as well.

This film evoked emotion on so many levels for me. The feeling of falling in love. The desire to be able to go back and change certain moments, however how small, is something we can all relate to. I have to say, I REALLY like Domhnall G. There is something so innocent and charming about him and I'd put his narration voice right on Mt. Rushmore next to James Earl Jones and Morgan Freeman in regards to making the audience FEEL. Whoever wrote the lines he released from his mouth during his narration has a soul and it;s evident. I have always been a fan of Rachel McAdams and in spite of her ridic haircut in the beginning, I'd say she was equally charming but not as cute as she was in Wedding Crashers.

There were so many things that worked for me, but none more so than the relationship between father and son. I was reminded of my dad and the things we'd do together. The last 20 minutes of the film resulted in the juiciest of eyeballs for me, especially when they went for that one last walk and DG was a kid. Touching stuff. My friend remarked at the end..."That was good" and a day or so later told me that after watching the film, he knew it was time to go home. He lives in Shanghai and had made the decision to move back home to the USA after having taught overseas since 2008. This is my favorite film in the last decade or so, since Before Sunset/Sunrise.

Ummmm NO.
7 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
As a QT fan I have to say that I am disappointed. I was just telling some friends that QT has not had a bad film, though some do not think Jackie Brown was up to snuff. This is just underwhelming from start to finish. I found the writing sooooo very boring and with the exception of Walter Goggins and Sam Jackson, I can't say anyone was vaguely interesting. The story SUCKED. The opening sequence (ode to Sergio Leone???) was terribly long and boring. I didn't really mind the excessive use of the N word, (yes I'm black and the word doesn't really bother me) because he's done it before (Django) but this go round it simply wasn't funny. The other thing that I found unnecessary was the re-telling of what happened prior to the crew arriving at the cabin...at the tale end of the movie. What did it add? NOTHING! It was a lame attempt at God knows what. It's been done to death, put it at the start.

I don't know, I thought it was bad and 4 may be generous.

Fantastic and Original
7 February 2015
Let me start by saying that I believe most people that review are those on opposite ends of the spectrum. If something is outstanding, be it television (Peaky Blinders or movies (I recently watched Shakesperare in Love and Haider) I feel obligated to right a review. If something is terrible (Any of the Hunger Games) I feel obliged to right a review. If it's a show or movie that I think is entertaining enough for me to tune in on a regular basis (Elementary, Misfits started out fantastic and faded to this category) I tend to not waste my time. Well, as you can tell by my header, I think this show is awesome. Going in the only thing I knew was that James Franco's younger brother was supposed to be the lead before Jay B took over which is cool because I am a fan of Jay's work...especially She's Out of My League (The female leads body is nothing short of spectacular) Back to the topic at hand. What this show does and how it does it is just outstanding...witty, clever and intriguing; I catch myself half smirking...half laughing often as a result of having been through what he's been through and felt what is so wonderfully captured in the quirky way the show shows us what it's like when we break up with someone. I love it. Do yourself a favor and check it out yourself. Yo won't be sorry.

Ummm part 2 please
22 August 2014
I'm a fan of New Girl...I'm a HUGE fan of Damon Waynas Jr based solely and initially on his work on Happy Endings (Not sure why it was cancelled). I was pretty happy to see him back on the show he left to be a part of Happy Endings and it was a given that I'd check the film out. I read a few reviews on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes and wondered should I wait to see it based mostly on negative reviews. Man, from the opening scene with Jake I was laughing every other minute. I thought the movie was absolutely hilarious throughout. The chemistry between the two stars was so natural you'd think they were friends in real life (maybe they are)it was effortless. There was a point near the end where the tone seemed to get a tad serious but outside of that 10 minutes of non laugh material, I was cracking up and so was pretty much everyone else in the theater. The scene where they took over the (girls) apartment....a very nice touch. She was pretty funny without doing much. I enjoyed the movie and can't wait to watch it again with Hope.

Hungry For A Real Movie
24 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Let me start by saying that I wasn't to enthralled with the first movie but after it was given high praise by one of my co-workers I decided to give it a shot. I don't really know what to say...I thought it was terrible, terribly boring and a waste of time and money. It was basically the exact same movie as the first one albeit with a few subtle changes. I was completely and utterly bored for the first half of the film and completely and utterly bored during the second half although the reasons are different. The latter half was painfully boring because it was painfully predictable. I found myself passing the time by looking for continuity errors, they weren't difficult to spot. for example, there was a scene where Catniss used just about every arrow in her quiver. I made a comment to my date as soon as the fighting stopped....less than 30 seconds later, she had her full stock of arrows. A petty and expected thing for sure but a testament to how bored I was. Character development, you ask...there was none but there was CARICATURE development. I could go on but I could be writing about something more deserving. This movie was one of the worst films I've ever seen. I don't want to offend anyone but it felt like it was written for 12 year olds. I am truly baffled by the positive reviews I see on this site and others...makes me wish I could be a fly on the wall of some of these folks brain.

The Call (II) (2013)
Should be called "Hang Up" or "Bad Call"
16 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
i have to set the record straight because the first reviewer suffers from delusion. This movie was absolutely terrible. It was so predictable, I left the room several times, played Othello on my cell throughout and didn't miss a thing. There was absolutely zero suspense which wouldn't have been a problem had the acting been even slightly better than a TV movie of the week. As a fan of Halle Berry...I was taken aback by how bland she was until I realized she's never been a particularly good actress, I just always thought she was beautiful...and what was the deal with her hair. (Think Danny Masterson from "that 70's show) Back to the film, her boss and her were supposed to have this "You can get over the fact that you lost a caller to a killer...like two days ago" thing going...again poorly acted. You can't take being on the phones, so you become a trainer and low and behold during a training session she takes over a call and (SPOILER COMING) TO NOBODY's surprise another girl is abducted and we find out by the same guy that took the first girl. What are the odds of that happening? you should have played the lottery in the film...winning would seem at least as statistically probable. The Hair...The Hair (In my Marlon Brando/Kurtz accent at the end of Apocalypse Now) O'll end this here, I still have 20 minutes left in the movie...that's after falling asleep 30 minutes into it the night before. FYI...I'm only going to finish because I've come this far.

Movie from Spain does good.
10 June 2013
I have to admit that I am an American that loves films and increasingly the best females I've seen over the last decade or so have mostly been NON-American films. This film was great in so many ways. It was captivating from the opening scene and gave me a ride on the emotional train. I had hoped for a different ending for the protagonist...down to the last few minutes but it was not to be and the reveal in the cell (what he wrote on the wall) revealed so much. This was a really good film with more than it's share of powerful moments. There were also some important political leanings in the film that I'd imagine speaks to the heart of prison conditions all over the world. Sadness, hope, despair, moments of joy and bliss, this movie had everything you could ask for. Do yourself a favor and watch it.

24 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I started skimming through it 10 minutes in and turned it off shortly thereafter. To say it strains credibility is an understatement oh let me count the ways. An officer calls on the phone...where exactly does that happen? He stays on the phone while he questions any and everyone. How many teens do you know that would allow strip searches etc without calling (WAIT FOR IT)maybe a parent...what about the manager..or is everyone lacking common sense. I have to say that if this film is based on a true story, I feel very sad for our society. Back to the film, I do believe that some of the performances were decent but overall it was just bad. I get the point they were attempting to make but they would have been better of making something up. TERRIBLE FILM
