American Horror Story: Boy Wonder (2018)
Another Letdown Episode Is More Like It...
I simply scratch my head and wonder what happened to the immense style, charm and grace of the first two episodes (especially ep 2...) of Apocalypse. From episode 3 onwards, this season just keeps getting progressively worse and worse. What a messy, illogical camp-fest this is all becoming. Boy Wonder was by far the WORST quality episode to date. It was boring, lacked any sort of points of interest and was cheesey. Sadly, it's clear that the teenybopper types who were fans of Coven simply prefer ANY episodes that feature the most of their beloved witches, good quality directing and storylines be damned...they just don't care. But there are some of us out there who do -- COME ON AHS, GET YOUR CRAP TOGETHER! This season started out SO well and had SUCH potential...
American Horror Story: The Morning After (2018)
The Morning After: A Majestic and Beautifully Dark Dream by Jennifer Lynch
My God. I LITERALLY FELT EVERY SINGLE SECOND OF THIS ENTIRE EP. It was GLORIOUS, true arthouse. The intensity is engulfing. The entire episode was dripping with heat and sensuality -- you could cut it with a knife. Jennifer Lynch is an incredible director, you can tell she is a perfectionist. EVERYTHING is BEAUTIFUL, INTENSE and so meticulously done. This episode literally pulled me into a dark dream world that I don't EVER want to leave. I have NO idea what those other couple reviewers speak of, this was in NO way "slow", the pacing was actually utter perfection -- it lingered, it teased, it seduced, it humiliated, it enraptured -- and was EXTREMELY effective. I suppose if you have A.D.D or are used to fast-paced action films with explosions and all that crap, this moving art piece may be too much for you to digest. There were so many tiny nuances and details in this work to appreciate, I could go on forever. The writing/script for this ep was utterly flawless as well, mastercrafted. PLEASE GET JENNIFER LYNCH TO DIRECT MORE EPISODES, AHS! Screw B-Movie and TV horror, go arthouse horror all the way!
Les zinzins de l'espace (1997)
One of the Funniest/Amusing Cartoons Ever MADE
I don't have much to say other than that I LOVE! this show.
Hilarious, witty, fun, and undeniably unique. The characters are adorable and lovable (check out those facial expressions!) The dialoge is well-written, and the voice acting is totally stellar. It also manages to be sophisticated enough to appeal to adults, while still being funny enough to keep the kids entertained. Yes, Space Goofs/Stupid Invaders contains ALL of the elements of a fantastic animated show.
When it got pulled from regular cable, the world lost a wonderful show....geesh, I miss it! <3
The Grudge (2004)
Good Horror Films Are For HORROR--NOT "Touching Story lines"
Seriously, people. Read that title again, and get a grip. Or, better yet, go out and see a DRAMA if you want "pristine storytelling".
I will make an incredibly long story short--THIS MOVIE CREEPED THE UTTER HELL OUT OF ME. And no, I am NOT one who "scares" easily by horror films. Usually, I find them intriguing and humorous (hence, I decided to go check this one out for some Halloween fun)--and boy, was THAT a mistake (in a good way, mind you ;)).
I was not only shaken, I was downright DISTURBED by the images the director presented to us. Freaky and bizarre, it seemed he never, EVER gave you "a rest" where shocking moments are concerned. Once the spooky stuff in the film strikes, there is NO turning back.
And these are images that literally haunt you LONG after you leave the theater. Plaguing your mind with paranoia and uneasy thoughts as you lie in bed at night. I am in my mid twenties, and let me tell you, the "night-light" made it's first appearance again, in years.
'Lo and behold, THAT, my friends, is why this is SUCH an effective horror film. Genuine eerieness and threats of turning your "places of safety and sanctuary" into your worst nightmares--the stuff bad dreams are made of.
I will end by once again saying that GOOD *horror* films are ones that SCARE you--not impress you by their intricate story lines. Because we all know, if those "stupid people" never "went back into the house"....there would be no story at all, would there?
