Revenge of the Sith, which I will hereon refer to as ROTS, certainly had a lot to live up especially since nobody seemed to like the first to prequels (they weren't on par with the originals, but still great movies). Did it deliver? Long story short: yeah, and with a nasty punch too.
One thing that ROTS certainly is not lacking in is action. There is practically no slow point in this movie. It starts off at 100MPH and winds up at 100MPH peaking around 200MPH somewhere in the middle. And, of course, ILM delivers the best as usual. They've pushed the envelope as far as it could go and then some. These are THE MOST impressive effects I have ever seen (and, yes, I've seen the Lord of the Rings trilogy). If you didn't know before hand you'd never even consider that these were CG effects.
Enough about visuals, now on to more important things. The acting is certainly a billion times better. Palpatine steals the show whenever he's on the screen and Obi-wan, well, he's Obi-wan. Some of the lines between Anakin and Padme do make me urp a little, but it's none of that mushy stuff like in Attack of the Clones.
But, of course, the biggest point is the story. George Lucas had to tie in the prequels with the original trilogy, a task not easily accomplished. Well, he did it and left only a handful of loose ends (nothing important, trust me). There were points in the film that really get you emotional too, like the execution of Order 66 or Anakin's burning scene. John Williams score makes these stand out even more so. I thought one of the most interesting things was the explanation of Anakin's lack of a father. They don't say it outright but if you really think about things it stands out like a stalk of broccoli in the rain. Also a nice added touch was some excellent original Star Wars style humor in the very beginning. Very refreshing :-).
So my final verdict? I give Revenge of the Sith a 9/10. It's nowhere near Empire Strikes Back, but then again nothing ever will be. I place this about a step behind A New Hope. So go and see it. Complete the circle.
