The Force is with us!
21 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Revenge of the Sith, which I will hereon refer to as ROTS, certainly had a lot to live up especially since nobody seemed to like the first to prequels (they weren't on par with the originals, but still great movies). Did it deliver? Long story short: yeah, and with a nasty punch too.

One thing that ROTS certainly is not lacking in is action. There is practically no slow point in this movie. It starts off at 100MPH and winds up at 100MPH peaking around 200MPH somewhere in the middle. And, of course, ILM delivers the best as usual. They've pushed the envelope as far as it could go and then some. These are THE MOST impressive effects I have ever seen (and, yes, I've seen the Lord of the Rings trilogy). If you didn't know before hand you'd never even consider that these were CG effects.

Enough about visuals, now on to more important things. The acting is certainly a billion times better. Palpatine steals the show whenever he's on the screen and Obi-wan, well, he's Obi-wan. Some of the lines between Anakin and Padme do make me urp a little, but it's none of that mushy stuff like in Attack of the Clones.

But, of course, the biggest point is the story. George Lucas had to tie in the prequels with the original trilogy, a task not easily accomplished. Well, he did it and left only a handful of loose ends (nothing important, trust me). There were points in the film that really get you emotional too, like the execution of Order 66 or Anakin's burning scene. John Williams score makes these stand out even more so. I thought one of the most interesting things was the explanation of Anakin's lack of a father. They don't say it outright but if you really think about things it stands out like a stalk of broccoli in the rain. Also a nice added touch was some excellent original Star Wars style humor in the very beginning. Very refreshing :-).

So my final verdict? I give Revenge of the Sith a 9/10. It's nowhere near Empire Strikes Back, but then again nothing ever will be. I place this about a step behind A New Hope. So go and see it. Complete the circle.

Super Smash Bros. Melee (2001 Video Game)
And why are Xbox and Playstation 2 still alive?
10 April 2005
If there was just one reason to buy a GameCube, this is it. Super Smash Bros is probably one of the best concepts Shigeru Miyamoto ever came up with. All the Nintendo (and affiliates) characters in one game? IT'S GENIUS!! The gameplay is awesome. Just about anybody can pick it up and play but when you figure out how to do the smash attacks, it's that much better.

One player is pretty sweet but it's the multiplayer action that really steals the show. Throw yourself into an arena with either computer or human players and flesh is sure to fly (just an expression, there's really no gore in the game). No matter how many times you play it never gets old... ever! So if you own a GameCube and don't have this title, you're really missing out. If you don't have a GameCube you need to get one and Super Smash Bros Melee with it!

It's SpongeBob, 'nuff said
28 February 2005
I didn't quite know what to expect when I walked into the theater to watch the movie of one of my favorite cartoons. Nickelodeon has a really nasty habit of "big-budgtizing" movies of their shows (changing the look, etc.). However this is not the case with SpongeBob. Whew, one less thing to worry about.

Next was the story. Could Steve Hillenburg live up to what had been laid down by the series? Yes. Basically it's like watching a 1 1/2 hour episode of SpongeBob (and who couldn't like that). Lot's of visual gags and typical Sponge brainless-ness. I was quite impressed.

If you're a SpongeBob fan, you'll love this movie. If you're not, eh, watch it anyways, it'll do you good ;-).

2010 (1984)
10/10
2010 times better than its predecessor!
15 November 2004
Warning: Spoilers
Not only does 2010 convey an excellent story that people can ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND, but it also gives you 2001 in a palatable form explaining exactly what they hey happened. Some say that "spoon feeding" the story to you is bad, but you go to movies for entertainment, not for deep thinking (with the exception of the Passion). If you want that, read a book, do a logic puzzle, I don't care.

If you were disappointed with 2001 don't let that keep you from watching 2010. It's much better. The only bad point was (SPOILER) when that Russian guy got sucked into the monolith. The other nice thing was that there was some humor to lighten the tone (laughing can be therapeutic). The ending was kind of odd, but otherwise a superb movie!

It was all I could do to stay awake
15 November 2004
I'd heard that 2001 was a good movie, so walking past it at the library one day I figured I'd give it a shot. Having been raised on Star Wars and Trek I figured it was right up my alley... I couldn't have been more wrong.

My main beef was the lack of content and the crypticness of it. I mean, who wants to watch a space ship slowly pass in front of the camera for an entire minute? Who wants to watch a bunch of people in monkey suits dance around a singing brick? I didn't even get where this movie was going until I read a summary online.

I have to give it to the people of 1968 to pull off a feat such as this, but that's about the only good thing about 2001. What good is special effects if there is no story to tell? Thank heavens people like George Lucas came along!
