John Mulaney: Baby J (2023)
Watch the whole thing
I've been a fan of John Mulaney for years. But on my first viewing of this special, I started it and then stopped it. His rhythm is different. His tone and manner are different. I felt guilty at the notion that I may have preferred him as a comedian when he was using. I thought more about it and something hit me. I needed to grieve the loss of who I thought he was and make space for the truth of who he is. I went back and watched the whole thing thinking I may just need a moment to be reintroduced to him. So glad I did. He'll never be the same but wow he's still hilarious and this time it's sustainable. This special is really insightful, honest and genuine. It's rare for a comedian to leave me both laughing and reflecting. Definitely worth the watch.
Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)
This movie is for Kids...not Adults
The problem with reviews is movies for kids is that they're done by adults. If kids rated our movies we wouldn't want to see them. This movie is not for the adults. It's for kids. You have to watch this from the perspective of an 11 year old and see how you would have liked it. My kids loved it and thought it was wonderful. It's heartwarming, funny and actually has amazing special effects. There are also good family values with themes of family, fatherhood and the important of being yourself. Will it win an Oscar? No, definitely not. But my kids laughed and smiled and ignored their tablets while it was on. It gave us great family time as we enjoyed it together.
Kenan (2021)
Ignore the snap judgments, give it a chance.
At first I wasn't sure what to make it of it because ifs been a while since I've seen a heartfelt funny family show and I just didn't expect it. It's hilarious and it's a sweet show about grief. Slow down and give it a chance, it's actually really good. Happy for Kenyan, I've heard him on interviews and he's a really humble down to earth guy, good for him.
Fantastic Four (2015)
People are too hard on this film
Okay, it may not be as tight a movie as Joker, Avengers Endgame or Nolan's Batman but it's pretty good. Give it a shot, it's enjoyable and fun.
The Lovebirds (2020)
Definitely watch
Hilarious, thoughtful comedy, they played very well off each other! Would watch again, great date night movie
Teen Titans Go! (2013)
Give it another shot when you have an 8 year old
See a lot of reviews trashing this show. The trend seems to be that it's a terrible follow up the previous show. To be honest I never saw the previous show and only heard of this one because my kids were watching it. I didn't know what it was about so I sat and watched with them. I was pleasantly surprised at how funny and intelligent the humor is. I'm not saying that from an adults perspective, I probably wouldn't watch it alone as I might other animated shows. However, watching the eyes of my 8 year old, I can see that it's reall a funny show. They don't talk down to the kids, their true audience is not adults, it's school aged children. A lot of you all who hate it, I would recommend watching down the road when you have kids and see how hard they laugh at it. And it's not dumb humor, it's actually well written. Example: the movie is coming out this week and the episode just released today focuses on the team trying to make a Hollywood action film as they play with all the Hollywood stereotypes. That's the best thing about the show, it's very self-aware while not taking itself too serious.
