Awful. Filmmaking at its worst
20 January 2019
This is a terrible film.

It's en entire waste of getting involved in it, as the ending will leave you so angry and disappointed and frustrated...because there is no ending.

You invest in these two 2 dimensional characters only for there to be no resolve. Lazy. Wasteful.

Netflix are confused. This film is confused.

It's utterly pointless with no arc, no development, utterly unbelievable story - call your sister you dumb woman! Call the police! Why would the sister not say that you can stay in an open house?

Awful. Messy.

Bird Box (2018)

I loved it
10 January 2019
Films, tv shows, box sets, music, theatre - actually everything we do and enjoy or not enjoy will divide opnions. What someone loves, someone else hates. Creative will always be subjective.

I was excited for bird box and ignored the reviews before and went in to just enjoy, or not, on my own with no other opinions causing my judgment. I was not disappointed.

The river and woods and locations are just incurable and the setting and scenery is marvellous. It looks running and takes you to a wonderful magical view that is also bleak, dreary and depressing.

I'm a fan of Sandra, but always feel she is overrated and not great at serious. Here she proved me wrong. I thought she put in a great performance. Sensitive, yet an aggy miserable woman and selfish too, but with heart and emotion. I thought she was Stirling.

Just enjoy. I did. Brain off fun entertainment, slightly disappointing ending perhaps, but I still thought the journey was a fun and bleak rise. It was tense, but not scary and it was dark but not too depressing.

The little girl and her few words in the boat floored me. That entire scene was immense.

Enjoy. Make up your own opinion and then find the next thing to watch.

8213: Gacy House (2010 Video)

Terrible. Such a shame that this is classed as a film
14 January 2012
The acting is so so poor, it's totally laughable. I mean laughable. Local am dram is better. Or a child's nativity play.

I fell asleep for 15 minutes and woke up and was still bored.

I can't even give this a proper review as it was so terrible. Laughable, not scary, complete rip off of Paranormal activity, Blair witch etc...

The opening set up is supposed to entice and creep out the viewer, but within ten minutes I was already knowing exactly what would happen and which character had the stereotypical traits.

With one female getting injured, there is a very obvious and poor attempt to get some boobs in. Soft porn for no reason, a close up of a breast. Why? Are you kidding.

Sex, in a house later on? Really? Are you sure when you are supposed to be holding an experiment to find ghosts? Sure, why not, the perfect time to have sex. IN A HOUSE WHERE THE BIGGEST SERIAL KILLER KILLED PEOPLE! HA. That's the other thing, this house was a new house on the grounds where gacy murdered people, so the original house has gone, yet throughout, the main guy kept saying it's in this basement they were found. Err, no, the house has gone.

The said main guy also, as a ghost hunter, kept on getting freaked out and scared and saying what the f was that?! Oh my god! Dude, you are supposed to be leading this event.

Total utter gash

Stay Alive (2006)

Very poor and not scary
5 August 2007
Warning: Spoilers
With the modern age, computers and computer games all play a major part in most peoples lives, especially the teens who this film is aimed at.

I love horror films and want to give every horror film I watch a chance, but this was just tripe. Obviously most horror films are quite simply unbelievable and over the top, but this takes it to another level (excuse the pun), for example **SPOILER WARNING** when the dude gets hit by the horse and cart in the road and the police turn up, one of the detectives wants to fight with the friend, I mean, come on! The acting is pretty poor, the editing is quite bad as it jumps from scene to scene without really finishing what you are watching.

Above all, for a horror film, it is not scary at all. You don't see anything that happens, no gore, no jumps, no frights. That is not a horror film. It was obviously made for pre teens to make money at the box office, which i have no idea i it did or not.

Nighty Night (2004–2005)
10/10
The best, but darkest comedy in years!
9 December 2006
I recently bought the 2nd series of Nighty Night and re watched the first series. I have never laughed so hard in such a long time! This is the darkest or darkest comedies and excellently performed by all cast.

Jill Tyrell is one of the nastiest characters ever brought to life and played so well be the amazingly talented Julia Davis. Rebecca Front gives such a great performance as the hapless, suffering neighbor Cath that you genuinely feel for her and then want her to actually stand up for herself against Jill!

I really hope that a 3rd series comes along soon and I also hope that the Americans when making their version do not miss the vital comic dark moments!

The Descent (2005)
10/10
Superb, Superior British Horror
28 December 2005
I wasn't lucky enough to catch this film at the cinema, but rented it on DVD on it's rental release day. I was so blown away I bought The Descent the following day.

We don't churn out that many Horror films a year here in the UK, so I was not too sure on what to expect. The reviews had been very good and I am not surprised why...

The acting from all of the female (largely unknown) leads is top notch and you do feel for each of them when the proverbial starts to hit the fan.

It's dark, mysterious, unsettling and down right gory. Everything that a Horror film should be. The first 45 minutes builds up so much excitement and tension that you will be on the edge of your seat for the final part of the film.

Neil Marshall rocked with Dog Soldiers and has struck gold again with The Descent. His clever use of lighting the scenes adds just to the originality of the film. Far more superior than The Cave.

It's best to watch this film, not knowing too much about it and then in the final act, you will hopefully agree with me that this film rocks...!

Saw (2004)

Make this film huge!
7 October 2004
I went to watch this film last night not really expecting much as I haven't heard anything about it. The British press tend to groan about horror films. I was completely blown away at how amazing this film is! Not only is it genuinely frightening and scary, it is clever, original and down right amazing for a first times director and writer to come up with a concept like this. I never write reviews on films but was so impressed with this film I want it to get the recognition it deserves and the box office success too! This film is not for the faint hearted or weak stomached, but if you think you can brave it, then do. We all hear about the "scariest horror film" since the exorcist every year, but this really is. It's dark and twisted and is not your usual Happy Hollywood fare. I don't want to give anything away, but the scene in Adam's flat had the entire audience gasping and on the edge of their seats through pure fear! Go see SAW!
