Catch-22 (2019)
Clooney spoils it
If you are a fan of the book You will be dissapointed but will see some similar aspects. The Actors are all excellent and the sets brilliant, if this was not sold as Catch 22 I would have given it a 10. It is not Catch 22 either film nor book and you can sense it is trying to be something it is not and nor should it try. When I say all the Actors are excellent that is with the exception of wooden clooney who just spoils it. I had read that they were going to take all the sexist comments and innuendoes out of it but that was the era and by putting it through a 21st century woke wash if falls flat. Like I said that is a shame as the cast did an excellent job and the set designers superb. Just a shame.
The Kids Are Alright (2018)
Fantastic show, reflects Irish Catholic Families well.
I grew up in the UK and Northern Ireland in the 1970's and this show reflects Irish Catholic families everywhere, especially ones with lots of brothers. Well cast of all the kids and the mum and dad are brilliant. Worth a watch, hope it gets picked up for a second season.
Mr Black (2019)
Such a shame as Australia used to do comedy very well
I watched this as it was sold as a young guy trying to impress his girlfriends father while they exist in the same time but from opposite worlds. the description that I just gave is what I think many would expect where the Father is used to things a certain way and normal but the world seems to have shifted at a 90 degree angle suddenly and things that were acceptable in everyday life suddenly are not. The young guy has entered his teens and adulthood in this new way of life and lives it well so there would be a clash and a funny one too. This show does non of that in any form. What it is trying to do is push an agenda that the Father is just mean and an impossible person just like all people who suddenly finding themselves not able to express their opinions like they used to as it will offend somebody. As I mentioned before it is an agenda, whether marxist who knows but there are no laughs in any manner. Give it a miss.
The Americans: START (2018)
Was expecting no loose ends.
I could not believe we had reached the end of this amazing show. It took me back to the 80's and the cold war and had the feel of that era, such a good job was done production wise. The writing was excellent too showing elements that showed the "proxy" wars that Russia and America were fighting during that period including elements from South Africa, a hard story line but done well. Then we reach the end and you would expect all the loose ends to be tied up yet we are left hanging as to what happened to Oleg, Martha, Renee etc. After all the years of gripping stories, chases, near misses I felt a bit deflated as you could see it was going along the Sopranos ending with a lot more questions still to answer. Fantastic show and because I am loyal to it I gave it an 8/10. If there was not so many questions left to answer it would definitely have been a 10/10
Battlestar Galactica: Daybreak: Part 2 (2009)
BSG Ending
Was it just me or was the ending closely symbolic of Scientology?
Nice ending all the same.
All the stories did seem to conclude and most of the questions were answered.
I also noticed that the scene with Adoma on the mountain top, seemed to be lifted straight from the Highlander film, but it did work very well for the show as they were conveying the same sentiment for the storyline.
Again, very nice touch of starting again from scratch and ignoring technology, but lots of political and environmental undertones in this. The final scenes where they say humans can get it right was unusual as most films and programs tend to dictate that there is no hope.
Sad it ended, but glad it did in a positive way.
