Cobra Kai (2018)
Everything's great but...
Why can't people realise the end was really biased? Or is it just me?
Yes, it refreshed all the old memories. We get a good start & the storyline is very well crafted... till the last episode. As expected from the first few episodes & the description of the show itself, it's all about redemption. How bad turns good, how everyone tries to better themselves. But as you approach the ending, you realise it's not about that; It's all about the makers rooting for one person!
Yes, you read it right. You are extremely excited to expect the end this show deserved. But no! Not this time. It's crystal clear someone was really biased. Right from the beginning you KNOW what's going to happen & this fills you with the much needed enthusiasm but the end totally ruins all the excitement that was built from the start. It heartwrenching to watch it all tumble down, to root for someone & expect it to go the right way but it doesn't. The writer, the director & the producer, they all spoiled what could have been the most amazing & proud moment of the entire show!
This may seem like a lot of ranting, but you just can't relate to the frustration you experience after the show ends. And yeah, I can totally sacrifice 3 stars for it.
The Indian Detective (2017)
If you are Indian, don't bother to watch!
I was skeptical right from the beginning about Russel Peters (Of all the Indians out there) being the protagonist. Yet somehow I managed to give him the benefit of the doubt. But in the end, it turned out to be the exact disaster I was thinking about.
I can't help but shout out that Russel Peters is the worst of all the Indian stereotypes out there. I mean, his standups are funny but that's what it is limited to - Standups. Apart from that, his portrayal of an Indian guy is just cringe-worthy.
When the title advertises about the "Indian detective", you expect an Indian scenario. If you watch Narcos, you know everything is about Colombia & most of the part would be Spanish. Yet somehow, in case of this show, no one in Mumbai speaks Marathi, even the Police station! The Hindi accent is just the worst & infuriating! Language is the first & the most important thing about a foreign drama. If you get that right, half the work in done. But no, no efforts in this one. Even the filming was done is South Africa? Like, really?
So, to finish off, your entire time will be spent criticizing the show rather than understanding it. And if you are forced to dislike a show, you know its not worth giving a shot!
Bright (2017)
Exciting & delightful yet concept could have been refined with a 2-part series.
Bright amazingly captures the issue of racism & its background. The attention to details & body language seem really thought through. The effects & simplicity is praiseworthy.
But the story could have been refined a more. The main combination was the racism point along with the fantasy POV. Because of the mix-up, which was good indeed, the focus wasn't distributed quite effectively on both the points. So it may feel like neither of the topics were well focused. It seemed like a rushed execution. A two-part story could have been better.
They explained a few strong points of their past but it would have been more effective & cool if they would have showed some kind of flashback to better understand a few terms.
But still it feels satisfactory. The effort to make this kind of movie is great nonetheless. A 8/10 from me. Would have been 9 if they would have at least presented a clear distinction of all the different races in the storyline. And a flashback of the actual reason for the dispute would have been a 10.
I most definitely recommend this one for the fantasy enthusiasts, just don't take all the flaws personally & enjoy the creation!
Jungle (2017)
Best of Daniel!
As opposed to Daniel's performance in Swiss Army Man, this spectacular journey, which is based on true events, shows a completely different side of Radcliffe. I feel that after the Harry Potter days, Daniel never really showed what he is capable of. No offense to his skills, they are indeed good, but his true measure can be seen in this film.
Different accent, amazing delivery, perfect looks & makeup, etc. So yes, this is indeed the best performance of Daniel since HF in terms of performance.
The cinematography is epic. The scenes were spectacular & the sites chosen for this journey were exactly what was needed. And all that coupled with the music gives the perfect experience. The blend was amazing!
And as the story is based on real events, I was skeptical as to how good it would turn out as a movie but I must say, every scene was justice to the story. Nothing seems out of the way and seems legit. And apart from Daniel, other actors too are incredible.
So the movie won't let you down & keep you hooked all the way till the end. I gave it an 8 not because I felt incomplete but because it just felt different compared to all the fictional stories I have seen. You won't experience the thrill as in Blood Diamond or Shutter Island but you won't be disappointed either!
Power (2014)
Reverse Breaking Bad!
The show seemed good at first but as I progressed further, it felt even better! If you have watched Breaking Bad then I bet you will love this show. It's kind of the same story but in the reverse order.
Breaking bad shows Walter trying to achieve power yet here it shows St. Patrick trying to get out of it. Power also has kind of the same character line. There Walter has Jesse & tries saving him and here Patrick has Tommy & he's trying to help him too! And There Jesse has girlfriend issues & same follows here with Tommy!
Although I won't say I didn't enjoy them, it felt like many of the adult scenes were unnecessary & could have been skipped. Also somewhere it felt like there were rookie mistakes in the story-line & events. Some things were quite hard to believe too but they won't be much distracting.
If you love those anticipatory, grasping story lines that grow with every episode & stick to the initial goal, this is the show for you. If are fed up of those "new-case-every-episode" or "FBI/CIA/Secret Agency situations", go for it.
Altogether, this shows seems quite relatable to a real situation. There weren't any exaggerating events or situations. Some scenes may appear cringe-worthy, but it seems they were meant to create that exact emotion or else it would have been too fictional. To conclude, you have to watch this if you need something to hook up to!
Taken (2017)
Taken - Doesn't even justify its name!
Taken - This word itself sets a high bar for Neeson enthusiasts. No one's 'Taken', no concerned relative, no hand to hand combat scenes, no amazing instincts, no quest to find someone, no feeling of uncertainty, no free will of the protagonist, no foreign scenarios and still I can go one for a whole page of what's missing in this show.
A sheer lack of commitment for writing the script is what's responsible for this fail. What made 'Taken' great was the desperation to find someone who has been taken. This subject inspires everything else automatically. How can Taken be Taken without this? The first episode showed an illusion of how it could be just the thing everyone was looking for, but in the end, everything was lost. Liam would be ashamed!
The Edge of Seventeen (2016)
Kind of expected more from it.
After watching the trailer, it creates an idea of how good this film could turn out but when you finish watching the film, you realise you've finished watching almost 90% of the movie with the trailer. It feels like whatever they showed you inside the trailer, just picture all that with some filler scenes in it and the film is complete. The initial ratings of this movie are alluring but it certainly disappoints. I think the concept of the film isn't something new. But I genuinely expected more turnouts from it. The end feels incomplete, the climax isn't something you won't expect. In the end, I think I'll prefer 'Kings of Summer' or even 'The Way Way Back'
Jane Wants a Boyfriend (2015)
One of the most amazing movies a watched in 2016
This is one of those awe-inspiring movies you just can't get enough of! After watching Barefoot for a thousand times, this seems just perfect.
The writing is just one of the other fantastic things of this movie. And hats off to Louisa Krause for attaining such a high level of acting. It seems so natural you just can't believe it. Every bit of this movie feels real. The anger, the curiosity & her sister's protectiveness all were perfectly blended into the script.
This movie gives a new perspective to people who aren't aware of such situations. This movie made me understand more about everything around me.
I don't know if the people who watched it would appreciate it as much as I do but this movie deserves to be released in every theatre in the world. I was disappointed it didn't release here in India.
Deadpool (2016)
Die-hard Marvel Fan? Don't bother to watch!
The hype created for this movie was so high that it totally crashes our expectations towards it! If you ever think that this movie will be as good as the other Marvel movies, my friend you WILL BE DISAPPOINTED! If you still think you have to watch this movie, then wait for the ticket prices to get lowered maybe then it would worth spending "some" money on it. Some say it has good humour & quite acceptable fight scenes but that's not what you expect from a Marvel Movie! Don't fall for the peer pressure your friends will put on you which happened in my case. I'll say spend the day at home & wait for Batman vs Superman! At least that would be worth the money! If you still want to watch I'll say go for Zoolander 2! It's actually a funny movie rather than a masked one!
