Dexter (2006)
Debra is the cherry on top!
Dexter is definitely one of the best shows ever on American TV. Even with the basic idea being a bit ridiculous Dexter seems more sensible then most "more realistic" shows on TV. The show is well written, well acted and doesn't seem to lose any of it's charm as the seasons go by, which is quite rare. Every season seems to be as good as the last one, if not better but with enough changes to keep it interesting. Even though Dexter might have some characters that fit regular crime-show stereotypes (Doakes, Masuka etc), it also has characters that seem to fit no stereotype at all. Forgetting the obvious one, Dexter, there is Rita who starts off so hurt, lost (yet always good) and delicate but bit by bit becomes a strong independent mother and wife, a slightly unusual storyline for any cop-show. The absolute jewel of the show however is Debra. On the surface she might fit the profile of a foul-mouthed female cop but under the surface is so much more. One of the most brilliant, interesting, endearing and above all genuine characters I've ever seen on television. Thank you Jennifer Carpenter!
The Linda McCartney Story (2000)
Elizabeth Mitchell plays Linda McCartney beautifully!
I just saw the movie for the second time yesterday and I liked it even more than I did the first time. I don't know that much about the real Linda McCartney although I am a Beatles fan but that didn't make the story any less beautiful. The movie covers over 30 years of her life with Paul from how they met in the 60's to her struggle with cancer in the 90's. The story itself is beautiful. The simple fact (or at least presented as a fact in the movie) that they never spent one night apart except for the short period of time that Paul spent in jail makes it an incredible lovestory. The movie does have some major flaws including the whole character of Paul McCartney but Elizabeth Mitchell does such a beautiful job as Linda McCartney that she saves the whole movie and definitely makes it worth watching.
Largo Winch (2001)
Creates a world of it's own which makes it interesting and exciting...
I usually get bored with action series but somehow Largo Winch was impossible to be bored with. The show in some way creates a world of it's own and I find that new and interesting. Besides the action the show also had mystery as Largo found out more about his father's history. And I always appreciated the friendship between Largo and Simon. Too often in similar type of shows friends end up as each other's enemies but here the friendship lasted throughout everything that happened. Also as a nice bonus the characters were very good-looking, men and women, but never mindless bimbos. They all had brains and personality as well as looks. I was sad when the show ended because except for some minor faults I thought the show was brilliant!
