What did I just watch??
15 April 2020
What did I..? What.?

I certainly have seen a lot of experimental, surreal and grotesque features but this one really is something special.

I knew, beforehand, that this one is considered extraordinarily crazy and I expected some silly splatter or weird camera shots or scary monsters, that kind of stuff.

But this movie is insane. From the beginning to the end, I just didn't know what to think about this film and if I liked it or not and I am not sure about it a day afterwards. Don't mind my rating too much since it's not that meaningful.

Nevertheless, I at least came to the conclusion that I would highly recommend this title because I think you definitely miss out on something if you haven't seen this one.

Have fun.

Gore Galore

Warning: Spoilers
A classic. At least in the splatter / slapstick community.

First of all, I'd like to point out that, for me, most of the silly scenes didn't age that well. Like most horror-comedies from that era, the humor seems outdated and often dumb or even cringe-worthy (e.g. the mumbling grandma in the dinner scene, or the "zombie baby - playground scene").

BUT, that's not what I've watched the movie for. Primarily, I wanted to experience a gore fest and that is exactly what I got.

I think, no one did it better than Peter Jackson when it comes to gore FXs and makeup. This movie is just so over the top and hard to overtrump that it definitely is a must see if you are looking for a blood feast.

So, even though I didn't quite like most of the non-gory scenes, the last third of the movie totally made it up for me.

Disappointed

Warning: Spoilers
First of all, I liked it. I liked the beautiful scenery, the astounding visuals in general which I was primarily looking forward to. Autumn leaves and the colourful trees gave the introduction a very inviting touch I got even more hyped at the beginning of the film.

After giving it a night's rest, however, it seems to me that there were way too many negative aspects. I have to say, I didn't like Elsa in the first movie; her behaviour is just not comprehensible. The way she treats her sister and isolates herself just to trouble her family and friends even more so, was something I couldn't understand.

But in this sequel, she acts way too selfish and inconsiderate. Even though, Anna just wants to help and support her sister, she gets rejected and thrown away like trash. Which, in the end, doesn't seem to matter at all to her and she just forgives her, which seems just to rushed imo. Moreover, there are many other scenes and twists I just couldn't accept for me. For example, Kristoff who seemingly loves Anna with all his heart and wants to marry her, simply gets left behind in the forest and Anna doesn't care at all about him. At last, once again, Kristoff doesn't care about it and forgives her in a blink of an eye. Same goes for the knights who reject their worshipped king just because Anna says so without any explanation at all.

Therefore, the overly exaggerated happy ending just didn't to it for me. Even for Disney standards it was just too much cliche imo.

Nevertheless, I don't want to give it less than 5 stars, because of its overwhelmingly positive visuals and art style, and the, at least in the beginning, heart-warming insight into the two sister's relationship.
