Some stories just don't translate to the big screen.

First off the acting in this film is pretty damn good. Clarke really tricks you into believing she's from the hollers of east Kentucky. As a Kentuckian myself I give her a 10/10. It just drags in the middle to a speed that a great cast and character drama just can't pull it out of. I think the filmmakers tried to stay faithful to the actual events, which is respectable to the ones involved, but ultimately it could be told in 30 minutes. Would watch again in a few years for maybe a better perspective on a slow night. Go into it just to watch Clarke and Knoxville play hillbilly pill heads and you shouldn't be disappointed.

Not the original, but the next best thing.

Warning: Spoilers
To me nothing will ever top the classic TCM. The grit, the low budget, the cinematography, and the set props are all just so iconic and original. This remake though, deserves respect for getting closer to any other TCM before it's time and since. Young mostly unknown actors, a healthier and scarier leatherface, a beautifully haunting farmhouse that brings just a sense of dread on film. Touch in some " true crime" black and white footage and a morbid narration of the events and you feel like this is as real as any movie. Left only with a "case still open" statement at the end of the film. I was 10 when this movie came out and it kept me awake until I was 11.

Silly, but not the worst.

Warning: Spoilers
Not as bad as 3D, but pretty close. I think they should just stop making these movies. They're just made for money and fail to capture any atmosphere of the original masterpiece. That being said, this movie does give you some kids to not like, some cool kills, and a decent ending scene. There is no originality, and bringing the Sally Hardesty character back just to have her say dumb stuff and then thrown in the trash,(Literally thrown in the trash) is kind of a smack in the face. I don't need to know anything else about the original final girl after the last shots of the original. That's what makes it so scary. How do they miss this, every producer thinks explaining the unexplained helps their movie and in reality it just makes it less frightening.
