The Switch (2010)
Couldn't finish it
I started watching this somewhere after it started on Pluto TV. I thought it would be a sweet moving, albeit convoluted. I watched until the mother said that she was thinking of moving in with a man who her 6 year old son hates. That's when I noped out. I don't care how she ends up getting with the real father who the kid loves. She's a terrible mother and person. I started watching this somewhere after it started on Pluto TV. Columbo: Dagger of the Mind (1972)
Love the London visit
I enjoyed Columbo being a tourist. He's so goofy and lovable. I found some of it confusing, as to what they were trying to do with the umbrella at the victim's house. I guess I didn't watch close enough. I always remember the trick he did with the coughing in this and was surprised to see in my re-watch of the series, that there are several episodes before this where Columbo does that same kind of cough, like Columbo suffers from post nasal drip or something. I'll have to pay attention to see if he does it in subsequent episodes.
Perry Mason: The Case of the Blonde Bonanza (1964)
Focuses on the Primary players.
I feel like so many episodes take too long for Perry, Della, and Paul to show up. This episode gives us Della and Paul right from the get go. I really thought that Jonathan Goldsmith was Anthony Perkins at first. He sure looks a lot like him.
Cobra Kai: Aftermath (2021)
heartbreaking
This show used to be fun. This is hard to watch. Very depressing.
Perry Mason: The Case of the Devious Delinquent (1963)
Stupid defendant
I don't think I ever cared less about a defendant than in this one. I was totally on the Uncle's side. That kid deserved everything he got and more.
As for "Timmy", I think this is what shows in the 50's to 60's thought young adults (he's out of high school, right?) sound like. That weird little kid talk.
Perry Mason: The Case of the Credulous Quarry (1960)
Best jump scare
Two things that jump out at me in this episode (pun intended) is one, it has the best jump scare, not typical in this show. When the body is thrown out in front of the car, it literally made me jump. Second, the first conversation with the Aunt and Mason is a hoot. Auntie is one freaky dame.
Jane Eyre (2011)
Boring and passionless
I LOVE this story and try to watch every adaptation. This one bored me to tears. The main characters had no personalities to speak of. I didn't believe their love for each other at all. It makes me angry how bad this is.
Shower of Stars: A Christmas Carol (1954)
Um, holy cow!
Last year I started watching all the Christmas Carol movies I could find and rating them. I gave this a 2 out of 5 and wrote in my notes, "um, holy cow". I couldn't remember why. I just rewatched it and my guess is it has to do with the singing in it. It is not natural or pleasant, and at times, downright goofy. ("Why Ghost of Christmas Present, you can do stupid stuff!"). Scrooge is fine. I kind of like them making the first two ghosts resemble people Scrooge knows, just for some variation. (For the most part I like the variations of all the different movies, otherwise it can be a bit boring, even if it is a great story). The song at the end that just rests on Scrooge's face is hilarious. This movie is close to "so bad it's good" territory. I recommend watching it with friends and booze.
Ender's Game (2013)
Huge disappointment
I just read Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow and watched the movie right after. There was so much missing that it lacked context, emotion, and heart. It was like it was just hitting the highlights, which does not make for an interesting movie. Kind of reminded me of the pace of The Room ala the flower shop scene ("Oh hi doggie"). It's as disappointing as the movie based on the book "The Time Traveler's Wife" - an abomination. I've now read all the books in the Ender series and they all run from good to great. I think the whole series could be done as a cartoon or some other digital method. It does not need to be done with live people. I hope someone does that someday.
How to Get Away with Murder (2014)
Continually gripping
I just watched season 4 and it did not disappoint. Other than a slight lull regarding the class action suit (which was still inspiring), it was a great season. I couldn't get past a couple seasons of Scandal because of the flip flopping of people's actions and character, but in this show, while the people are flawed, they are basically decent and likable, and maintain or improve in character. And while they continually have terrible things happen to them (or inadvertently cause them), the fun is in seeing "how on earth are they going to get out of this" with full confidence they will figure it out and overcome, at least until the next trial.
The X Files: Folie a Deux (1998)
This episode made me angry
I loathed this episode. The assistant director causes a man to be shot because he doesn't listen to Scully or use common sense and tries to call Mulder, when Mulder almost was able to get control of the gunman. And no one calls him out on that anywhere in the episode. Then Neither Scully or Skinner believe Mulder..again. Nice way to have the guys back aholes. And in the end Scully "tells the truth" sort of. BS. I hate the constant disbelief, particularly on Scully's part, of anything Mulder says or believes. But it's okay if she believes in ridiculous things. Except now, when she will not be frank with DA Skinner so as to confirm that Mulder is not nuts. Grrrr.
The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax (1999)
A very good movie I'd like to see again.
It's been a few years, but I remember thoroughly enjoying this movie. I've listened to the book on tape. Mrs. Polifax is a very interesting character.
She is well played by Angela Lansbury. She shows how strong and smart an older woman can be. I also like the slight hint that the younger attractive man is somewhat smitten with the older woman, and why shouldn't he be. I'm a big Angela Lansbury fan. I have most of the "Murder She Wrote"'s on tape.
I remember the man in the film being very attractive. I was watching Karate Kid 2 and realized that he is in that movie. I would love to see the movie again but have no idea where to get it. If anyone knows, please email me. Thanks.
