Shopgirl (2005)

stick to acting!
25 February 2006
The funny thing is, an as a bullish fella I can say this, I don't often get a film wrong when it comes to its genre. I actually had visions of this being some kind of romantic chick flick and therefore told the missus i had one for her to watch. During the film I went to the shop twice and funny enough missed nothing whatsoever. Surprised at this reaction? Well you shouldn't be! Although there was a lot of emotional depth to this film, it would seem that most of the money accumulated for the film was spent in a local pub or titty bar either that or lost down a sewer. Not only was it written by Steve martin, he also had to be a main character and the narrator. It wouldn't surprise me, if he also did some camera work and got the breakfast orders from the local café! (plenty of brown sauce on the bacon & cheese on toast love!. Needless to say I was bored bored bored. The only thing that caught my imagination was the girls arse on the bed and how good she would be. A word of warning, buy plenty of red bull to keep you awake should you want to watch this film, just so you can stay awake. Or maybe buy a couple of electronic ignitors and you can zap your partner every couple of minutes just so you don't end up comatose. Steve you could have won an Oscar for this film had you seen the potential as a five minute flick and cut out the boring bits! Oh and one last thing, one sugar in the coffee and brown sauce on my bacon, thanx!

Another potter classic

After watching this on its UK opening weekend, I have to say that the special effects team have done one of the best jobs I have ever seen. Its no wonder it took 18 months to tick all the boxes. The film was great although for me didn't get past an eight simply cos of the length of the film. I know to some, this represents value for money, but any film that lasts longer than it takes to fill your bladder is a definite no-no for me on the big screen, simply cos you are going to miss something and whats the point of that. Short of being dehydrated and drinking nothing for the best part of three hours you will need a bathroom break. Will be a superb film just like the others on DVD, this is cos there's a pause button at home if only there was one for the big screen lol! The bit that sticks in my mind, is during the first challenge when harry falls off his wand broom and the dragon claws its way across the castle roof, absolutely stunning graphics and a great all round film. Just don't watch it at 11pm like we did, didn't phone a taxi till 2am, a bit of a killer!

finding Nemo meets war of the worlds

As with most other Disney movies, chicken little was a very funny and entertaining movie that my kids could watch again and again. In fact, at 32, so could I. Packed with the funniest parts, poor chicken little has to find a way to convince his town that he is no loser after ringing the alarm bell cos the sky was falling in. He achieves this in excellent fashion with his 'would be if he had the courage' girlfriend, an overweight karaoke loving pig and a fish out of water who can crush a can on his helmet with the best of them. The one difference between this movie and other Disney movies, is that from start to finish it is totally non stop once it gets going and you just can't imagine leaving your seat. A massive ten out of ten from me and especially my kids. Well done the Disney team efforts like that are well appreciated!!!

Father Hood (1993)
When your kids find you its time to find yourself!
25 September 2004
Patrick Swayze stars as a father who is lost to beer, woman and the bad boy life. One day, out of the blue, his children find him but are ripped away by the system. In typical character, after seeing his children handcuffed to a waist belt into the bus back to the home for disturbed children, Swayze decides enough is enough and hijacks the bus, which leads to a cannon ball run trek across America to New Orleans, where the next heist of money will get Swayze the good life.

On the way there, he starts to fall in love with his kids and helped by Halle Berry, the reporter who has tried to stop the home molesting children and billing for trips out with the kids that never really took place, Swayze has to decide whether he should take the money and run or look out for his new found family's interests.

I really enjoyed this film and recommend watching it, if you missed it back in '93, and the music played during the chases is soulful and funky throughout, which gelled nicely with the plot, especially the last track (wonderful one, if thats its name) which took me right to the end of the credits. I just hope in the next few years we get another version of 'Father Hood' and they stick to the northern soul tracks that blessed this version. Just please please please shut the blonde loud mouth kid up, his character played too well and was as annoying as he was paid to be!!!!!

a heart warming story line that meets suburban reality
27 August 2004
At the first glance of this film the camera angles immediately make you think that this is a low budget film that will bore you to tears or make you press the stop button. Surprisingly, the storyline comes forward and is played through the screen in a way that I feel most would relate to. I scored this movie at 7 but like most would, felt it should be a 10, you will understand as you watch it because its a rare thing for a film to be in touch with a persons feelings and how life should be shown by a TV set. Most films try to leave you in awe of their special effects, twists and turns etc, this film dealt a true hand showed a good film backed by an Alabama style storyline that most would feel was a good waste of a couple of hours. Wish I had put the popcorn maker on after all well done!
