Bizarre and Creepy
22 April 2024
I loved every minute of this movie and every character delivered in their own way. Very interesting story about a group of unlikely thieves in the roaring twenties. Uniquely a Todd Browning's film who was know to have a fascination with side show people and other non-conformists. His work was always original and on the creepy side. The worst villain in the film is Twiddledee the "baby"who will do anything heartless to get rich quick. Echo turns out to have a heart in the end, but the movie could of been perhaps 10 minutes longer to wrap up the fates of the strongman and the baby. This was the second time I have watched this movie and I also liked the talkie version that was Lon Chaney's only Talkie..

Moving
20 April 2024
I have seen Mitch Vogel in a couple of episodes of Bonanza and he was always a fresh faced good looking kid and Jack Elam is his scruffy boozer self in this one. The trained crow is fantantic in this and I love crows. The story is a interesting blend of personalities, troubled lives and relationships. John is a troubled loner with a crow, while Jamie is a guest of the Cartwrights. Jamie tries hard to be decent, honest and a friend to John but they are both very different and things don't work out well between them. I was touched and had tears in my eyes in the end but felt robbed that I didn't see the crow show up later.

I love the show and tape it daily. It has a lot of things that interest me and that I enjoy. Mary's Cooking segments are great with a lot of dishes I like that aren't too complicated to make. I also like the Fashion,Crafts,Hairstyles, and Celebrity Guests. I love Mary's upbeat, outgoing and positive personality. I am alone and her happy vibes cheer me up,so I was surprised at the negative reviews on here. Mary's mother Myra is another joy and I love when she's on the show as she's a star in her own right. Mary could be somewhat less one dimensional but with time she will grow into a more mature personality,as she is still quite young.

The Worst in Northfork
9 January 2024
This is one of my favorite episodes of the Rifleman, another one I like features Agnes Moorehead. This story is about a Chinese immigrant father and son who want to set up a Laundry in Northfork. They are warmly accepted by most in town but not by 2 drunken bullies, who begin a campaign of terror against the Asian newcomers. The polite Mr Wang tries to be kind and repectful to no avail. One of the drunken racists son starts to make fun of Wang's son and a fight ensues, the trouble isn't over yet however and it gets even worse. This episode shows how ugly racism is and how alcoholism can bring out the worst in people.

Captivating
18 September 2023
One of the best silents I have ever seen and I have seen at least a hundred. Most of them I rated from 5 to 7 and very few above that, but this one I rate 9,I just wish it ran longer. The print is the best I have ever seen and the expressions of the actors is superb, especially the people in the restaurant and the farmhand guys. Mary Duncan was a delight right down to her 1920's makeup including false eyelashes. Lem's stern father also make quite an impression on me. I cared about the leads in this movie and cried through parts of it as I was fully involved in the characters and plot. The ending was a good thing...

Attractions

I relate to this movie because I was strongly attracted to different people when I was a Teenager and also thought about sex a lot. I too had a few irritating friends like Oscy. I find it hard to believe that Oscy would of scored the way he did, with his forward, insensitve nature and average looks,he should of been the one that asked for the condoms with his boldness it would of been no problem. That scene was hard to watch no wonder people were scared to ask for them. Jennifer O'Neill was so classy, likeable and kind in an unforgettable performance as the beautiful down to earth Dorothy. I also had a love in with dorothy's seaside house/cabin with the white boarding and cozy rooms,it gave off a wonderful comforting vibe. Very sad in parts especially thinking about lost love, separation and longing.

Choose your Mates Carefully

Sad tale of Greed and Wanting and a Character study of different types of people. Being small shouldn't be a source of shame and bullying but often is as shown in this episode. Wrong Choices of the people we are attracted to is also highlighted here. The Saloon girl is a greedy, heartless mean person who deserves nothing as her character is the pits. People who worship money like her are no good and don't value real love. This Saga fell short in many ways with people not standing up enough or telling it like it is. Hoss could of been more frank at the end when speaking to the Goldigger and should of thrown some digs in. Not uplifting,, terrible ending and acting.

Downbeat

I have seen many movies about the holocaust but this one left me cold. The characters weren't that developed or likeable especially that brat son of the zookeepers .The animals in distress and danger was heartbreaking to see and didn't need to be so graphic. The wife should of been more upfront with the nazi officer who was attracted to her, telling him she was married and would not cheat on her husband. She put many lives in jeopardy with her response to the officer. The accents were a little too heavy so I didn't understand all the words. It was a movie I would never view again and I would give a 61/2 stars.

Many things were left out and the story wasn't that cohesive. Jim I thought had more the essence of the real Jim Baker and Tammy was missing the tears, vulnerbility and raw nerves that she often displayed. They skimmed by the lives of the children,Jim's affair with Jessica Hawn and Tammys last years on TV and her battle with Cancer. Tammys voice and whine were missing as Jessica Chastain portrayed a more innocent side to Tammy, she also didn't look enough like her. I used to watch the PTL for years and was always taken in by their personalities they realy did have charisma way more than these actors did.

Historically Interesting
12 December 2022
This was way before my time and though I have heard of this order of nurses,I had no idea they came to peoples homes to care for elderly and sick people. The home nurses my grandparents had were not from this agency. Seemed like people were more caring back then. This was filmed back in the 40's and everything was done in such a classy way. Teaching New mothers how to take care of their newborns was a very neat thing to do so they would be prepared for motherhood. The film made me curious enough to go and google the order of nurses to find out more and to see what they're role is in today's world.

Can't Compare

I loved the Original Nightmare Alley it had Intrique,Charm,Mystery and more Developed Characters, this remake doesn't. The story is told in too abstract of a way with lackluster performances and characters that weren't all that captivating or interesting. Hated the cruel scene with the chicken ,the violence and the mess goes on too long. Very forgettable.

The homes and restoration are a joy to see but the expectations and privilege of the owners and builders is a little much. So much perfection seems unreasonable unless your very well heeled.

Interesting to a point then it just becomes irritating and repetitive. A study in eccentricity that comes alive through isolation, circumstances and strong personalities. Edie has so much creative energy that being an actress would of come naturally to her. Would of liked to have seen more of the house, cats and raccoons then the constant drivel. The picture brought back memories of my own unmarried Aunts who lived together and constantly lived in the past going over their failed chances of being married, having children and glorifying their short work lives.

Very disturbing story of a nice woman being taken advantage of by a selfish, warped psychopath that escalates to a brutal outcome. The acting is excellent and realistic and I wish I hadn't watched it late at night as it stayed with me for a few hours. It's also a cautionary tale to be careful who you let live with you,and to call authorities and let the people around you know what's happening in a scary situation as this poor woman was put in.

Eye Candy

I enjoyed this film because as a late Silent made in 1928 it shows how far the techniques of filming have advanced over the years. We still close-ups,different Camera angles and some scenes that look decades ahead of its time..It helps that Ralph Graves is such a hunk, such an attractive man and the Scenes of Training in the Naval Academy ,plus all the Flying make it worthwhile.

Beware of Grifters
25 September 2020
I have seen this episode at least 3 times as I think it's one of Hitchcock's better ones.Everyone is interesting and the casting is a good mix of actors.Robert Sterling is excellent as a charismatic conman and so good looking.Billy Mumy in one of his many roles as a boy always made a memorable presence.I like stories about grifters and was kept guessing what would happen right to the end.

Intense
16 July 2020
Charlize gives a very stark, intense raw performance that really was Oscar worthy.I was dragged in from the minute I saw her act out this Monster.I have met a few streetwise tough lesbian woman in my life but nothing could compare to Eileen.Loving,Dangerous,Unstable, and super scary ,I can't imagine her being in my life. This movie brings to front the realism of loving the same sex in such a natural real way.Eileen was like a man in many ways and this story illustrates what can happen when some people are horribly abused as a child.

Makes me Sad and Happy
5 June 2020
I was happy to see this group of great talents getting a rare chance to show their stuff.Sad to see talented black folks restricted to all black movies that were few and far between and many couldn't make a career out of it.Fats Waller died at 38 when this movie came out and Ada Brown only made 3 movies and died young also. This movie has style and was filmed at one of the major studios.Money was laid out on costuming and those hats and zoot suits are memorable. To be an black actress back then you played maids mostly ,musicians,or worked in a uncredited role.Glad this showcases the artists that were around then..

Hard to believe every man would fall head over heels for this dame even forsaking their careers and finances for this calculated power hungry tramp .Con woman of the worst kind.I did enjoy it for its notoriety and reputation as a before the code film.I won't reveal the ending but it warmed me in the changes that occurred.

Just Enjoy
2 March 2020
I don't try to put this movie in perspective to anything going on today. The film is wonderful as it is and is a rare gem from 1940.I think it set the bar at that time on what could be done in a Fantasy movie.I get goose bumps everytime I see it and love the musical score.Sabu is a favourite of mine and I have seen most of his movies. Most of the actors were centered in England at the time this was made and I always think about World War 11 starting and yet this movie got made.Any flaws in it make it more charming for me.

Style
15 July 2019
The movie has style and class and its Story line is much more interesting than a lot of Silents I have seen. You will see a child of out wedlock,a girls Reformatory and a Brothel.I love Louise Brooks, her Beauty,Sexuality,Charisma, and Charm are one of a kind plus that cutting edge haircut suits her to a tee.I love the close ups and expressions so much character, and it being a German film gives it a exotic edge.
