Fools' Parade (1971)
typically lifeless mclaglen fail, but herein does he dive for deepest of noir-esque amoral depths.
Even more of a complete timewaste than every single other rotting carcass left in the sun by the utterly talentless mclaglen.
So utterly bereft of any least atom of actual factual talent directorial was mclaglen as to all but undo the combined efforts of the amazing cast of 'McClintock', all working together to make that film not only the sole mclaglen title at all endurable, but actually enjoyable.
A relic of the late-'60s-ear;y-'70s wave of existentialist nihilist trash ensuing from then-new MPAA "R' rating, telling filmmakers they had license to produce such garbage as this travesty of cinematic storytelling.
As abominably 'amoral' 'antihero' are the 'protagonists', their enemies plumb new depths of 'amoral' depravities myriad, all mirrored by like depths among the 'antihero' characters herein.
This film cements not just the lack of storytelling talent of mclaglen, it also marks him as the complete hack who will film anything for a paycheck, which this fat old cinephile has always seen him as.
Take Shelter (2011)
more, More, MORE films such as this understated masterpiece, plzzzz?
W almost 'home movie' feel to every scene, so humdrum a setting, amid such normie townfolk shud lead more to zzzzz than otherwise, rt?
My 1st exp w Shannon, one of at most 3-4 working actors w so much as an atom of screen presence, let alone actually realsies 'actking' talent/'skill'; left me a rabid fanboi despite his all but commie politics and his insistent yapflapping thereon.
1st Chastain exp, also; she carries not so much 'presence' as shannon, but her performance drew me in as none other female performance, for i dunno how long.
Writing, direction, breathtaking cinematography/cams work, every single performer, adult and child; singularly and together, 'breathtaking', 'awesome', 'jaw dropping' are no more than merest hints of how supremely superlative a film this is, in every element, and in their blending, into this wonderously engrossing story of a family loving their way thru whatever life throws at em.

Rapture-Palooza (2013)
Laugh-til-u-cry funny! Sacrilegious, raunchy, foul language, but F-u-n-n-eeeeeee!
Precisely the sort of film to be avoided by Christians, but this one finds it absolutely hilarious from title roll to credit roll.
Apparently written mostly as a star vehicle for Kendrick, who outdoes herself in this role, but overall very fine performances from entire cast of 'hey-ive-seen-him/her-before!' stalwart character actors.
It is Craig Robinson who steals the show, imho.
This underrated, highly professional, actor is mesmerizing as the disgustingly narcissistic and obscenely selfish Adversary of All Righteousness, Let's Hear It Fooooooooorrrrrr: SATAN!
Despite the very in-your-face anti-Christian aim of the creators, this comes across to me not so much as an expose' of alleged fallacies and falsehoods of The Gospel of Jesus Christ, as it does an examination of the errors of understanding Scripture made by those who try, howsoever poorly, to follow Him.
The whole thing has none of the bitterness, anger, and outright rage of most Hollywood attacks on Christ.
Rather, in spite of the prevalence of violence, some gore, foul language, and worldly POV, it has a sort of warmth at its' heart regarding Christianity, and for the commonality we all have with the failings of the followers therein.
For myself, the climactic battle between Our Hero, Christ, God Almighty; and The Devil Himself, is nothing short of hysterical, due to the talents of Craig Robinson.
Cannot help but laugh out loud every time I see it!
No Time for Love (1943)
Delightful in every way
Had no experience other than 'My Three Sons' of the acting of Fred MacMurray, and had not seen Claudette Colbert at all, before stumbling on this film on the old, (better!), AMC in the mid-'90s.
The story is fresh, the dialogue sparkling, the acting understated, the screenplay well paced, the direction deftly weaving together an improbable tale of rather unlikely characters into a story in which we are almost instantly interested.
The contrasts between the elitist, New York intellectuals of Colbert's trendy news magazine, and the blue-collar Sandhogs led by MacMurray are displayed with wit and charm rather than a heavy handed preaching about class differences.
The story is more than just the blooming romance between the leads.
There are numerous moments of action, suspense, male humor, female humor, and many quite amusing one-liners thrown out by supporting cast, so don't be put off by the 'Romance' categorization.
Far from being a cliché 'romance', it reminds me more of a screwball comedy with strong romantic elements.
The chemistry between Colbert and MacMurray is fascinating to watch as they develop the characters, through interaction with one another, from plot point to plot point.
The supporting cast is superlative. Each character has individual quirks which shine from scene to scene, yet they never upstage the leads.
Saw the two leads in 'The Egg And I' after seeing this film.
If you enjoyed Colbert and MacMurray in that film, you may enjoy the higher energy at all levels of their chemistry in this forgotten gem!
PS- If anyone has any clue about obtaining a copy if this film, in ANY format, please let me know here!

SPOILER WARNING!! SPOILER BELOW THIS LINE!!
Hilarious and psychologically insightful dream sequence! MacMurray as a sort of Superman; Colbert as a flighty Damsel In Distress, with a rare use of then-advanced special visual effects, add up to a near-genius scene in a very well made film!
Mr. Wrong (1996)
Under the radar...
...and dropping bombs on marriage, men, and mainstream American culture.
Isn't it interesting that this film was released BEFORE she outed herself?
IOW, this film was intended to subvert cultural norms regarding marriage, but it wouldn't work at all, (as badly as it DOES work), if the viewer knows the protagonist is a lesbian.
Another question: Why does Ellen keep getting funding for her projects, when her record of success is precisely zero? Every film or TV show she has done has lost money for it's producers.
Why do they keep giving her a public platform?
