Westworld (2016)
Terminator meets Pinocchio meets iRobot
The title says it all. If you've seen those three films, then what you're seeing is a rendition that combines the story of three with nudity and violence to escalate its ranking and give its edginess.
Aside from Anthony Hopkins and Ed Hariss, the rest of the cast is unbelievably painful to watch when it comes to acting. My goodness the number of times I had to roll my eyes on the character of Dolores.
I grant the show credit for using plot devices effectively - such as the chronological time shifts to demonstrate memory of robot vs. Human. But all in all, this movie spends more time building suspense on something that could've been easily solved. For a civilization that managed to figure out disease and other challenges, the corporate employees of WestWorld completely lacked intelligence to not fall for the uncanny valley of robots. And how they act helpless towards robots...my goodness come on dude!
There are moments of good cinematography - great scene shots, but after a while it becomes a drag and you fast forward because you want to learn whether the plot will resolve or improve.
All in all, if you have a lot of free time, give Season 1 a watch, and just stop there.
The Gate: Dawn of the Baha'i Faith (2018)
A Great Summary of the Bab in Iran
The Gate follows the history of the Bab, who is equivalent to John the Baptist among the believers of the Baha'i Faith. The documentary begins with setting the foundation of history, giving a glimpse into the history of Iran and the time where the Bab faced both great challenges and victories in declaring His mission.
The production quality of the documentary is great, and pacing is good. The documentary places great emphasis on the overarching theme of delivering the Message of Baha'u'llah and the Bab, whom Baha'is consider as Prophets from God, and the two entities whose Teachings are essential for this age.
