Altered Carbon (2018)
S01 BETTER THAN BLADE RUNNER
Okay, maybe it's better to say in the top 5 works of cyberpunk fiction ever put to screen. Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, Cyberpunk 2077, Edgerunners, and ALTERED MF CARBON. Whoever thought it was a good idea to ditch Joel Kinnaman is out of their mind and their career should be put on ice. Can definitely figure out a way to bring him and the show back but obviously it's probably far too late. Would be totally worth it though. Much love to the cast and crew who made such an absolute masterpiece, every episode is mesmerizing and so well written, the set design is so incredible and better than many movies, and the ultraviolence is a freaking rollercoaster ride! Thank you all so much!
The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
Enter the Sarlacc Pit
So far so good, so many badass moments in such a short amount of time. I feel like there's no reason for the run time to be under 50 mins though but whatever. Crazy to think how far Boba Fett has come, pretty brutal when he disintegrated that fool, can't wait to see what's next.
Copshop (2021)
Had me entertained from start to finish
I'm not sure what the problem is with those who gave this a bad rating, what do these people want? A non-binary green haired troll to play the lead role? I'm sure the haters are complete "woke" folk. Watch it and decide for yourself. I had fun with it, Alexis Louder does a superb job, great acting all around. Feels more like Smokin' Aces than Pulp Fiction, honestly the bad reviews have no clue what they're talking about. Maybe it's predictable somewhat but what movie isn't. Nice gunplay, banter, and badass moments. I judge a movie by whether or not I'd watch it again and I would. Not boring whatsoever.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
Get a load of this...
The mom asks the boy to watch the baby while she's gone, he says forget that after like a minute leaves the baby in an airtight box with almost no oxygen, goes limps upstairs why can he walk around at all just to look out the window? Makes noise gets scared runs downstairs now he can run, grabs the baby stupidly locks himself and the baby inside an airtight chamber and then steals the baby's oxygen. Or how 'bout how the girl leaves to protect the family but takes away their only means of defense. Or how the ending is basically the same as the first but way worse. Totally sidelined the mom character. The list goes on...
Loki (2021)
This show is perfect
I love where this is going, for sure the most profound thing Marvel has done so far, has pretty much infinite potential they can really do anything. The writers have done their homework, vortex based math baby. Get ready to break through the matrix multiple times.
Westworld: Crisis Theory (2020)
I CHOOSE TO SEE THE BEAUTY IN THIS SHOW
Clearly many choose to see the ugliness. I thought this one one of the best episodes they have done. Super cyberpunk. They definitely could have used two more episodes I think. Marshawn Lynch intercepting the gas canister was so badass and that scene was filmed so well. Pulled off a lot of crazy twists I enjoyed. Season 4 ApocalypseWorld?
The Midnight Gospel (2020)
I knew this would be my new favorite cartoon
Pure magic. What an incredibly original and profound experience. The ending was beautiful l cried. Hilarious and messed up, great insight from interesting people. Is tricky to keep up with at times because of all that's going on but it makes for a great rewatch. There is so much crammed into each episode and the adventure time vibes are on steroids, I love all the artifacts. And the music is freaking awesome! I hope they can continue to make these, the simulator and entire layout of the show just works for me. Someone mentioned this show was lazily done and has fake high reviews, that is understandable from the viewpoint of someone too lazy to figure out what is being discussed and what is going on, watch it and make up your own mind if you haven't already.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
What a joke
Jj Abrams ruined this trilogy, rebooting Star Trek is one thing, using the same ideas is part of a reboot, labeling these as part of an episode means it shouldn't be a remake or use any of the old plots. Having a giant Death Star planet, now the main good Jedi is related to the ultimate bad guy all over again too? Oh and the emperor is back to have a final battle all over again? And throughout the whole 3 movies we've had only the same 2 people lightsaber dueling. Can hardly count Luke. What a joke at least the last Jedi was more original, can't believe jj is getting rich off his terrible ideas what a mess, thank goodness for the Mandalorian. We can all forget this even happened.
The Mandalorian (2019)
A return to everything awesome (non-jedi) Star Wars
The only thing that sucks is that the episodes are so short! Why put all that money into set/costume design if you're not going to make the most of it. At least 50 minute episodes. I obviously know nothing of making shows but I feel it really messes up the pacing of the story with such short episodes that I have to wait a week for. If I could binge it all at once it wouldn't really matter.
Other than that so far so good, western movie vibes throughout, slow burn in a good way. Very immersive which is why it is a tragedy that they cut the episodes so short.
Joker (2019)
The Joker is supposed to be a diabolical mastermind. Not a clown.
This movie makes him out to be a nervous child with pseudobulbar affect (pathological laughter). I understand what the movie is trying to point out, but it would have worked for me if it was not connected to the joker or dc comics. The Joker is a brilliant and ruthless criminal mastermind, so much of a genius Batman is the only one who can match him. This "origin" story does not create a Joker that could ever hope to be Batman's greatest enemy. He causes mass chaos in the city by mistake. A very slow burn for a very weak payoff, the ending should have been in the middle of the movie and gone from there. His makeup is that of a clown the entire movie never bearing any resemblance to any Joker i've ever seen. I can't enjoy a character who is ONLY a mental case, he is terrible at being funny, Heath Ledger's joker was hilarious without trying to be a comedian, he was funny in the moment, this Joker is too disturbed for comedy. A character like the Joker doesn't need an origin story it should be left shrouded in mystery. Joaquin Phoenix did a great job with what it all was, but it felt more like Taxi than anything else which to some is a success but I feel it's a failure in this case.
Alien: Covenant (2017)
Tried and failed to remake the original
This movie is the equivalent to the new Jurassic World/Star Wars/Terminator. Pretty much the same set up as the first. Too much CGI Alien, too much of the Alien in open well lit shots. The chest bursting scene looks so terrible Alien vs Predator is a better movie than this. And that is very sad to say that I prefer that "origin" story to this failure. How many times is the chick going to survive in Alien movies it's kinda overdone. Danny McBride's character just didn't work for me. They make every stupid decision known to man which makes no sense they're suppose to be really smart scientists. Why haven't we seen what earth looks like in the Alien universe? There is so much to explore but they just wanted to try and make an Alien remake on this one. If it wasn't for Fassbender it'd deserve a one star.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (2019)
IMPRESSIVE!
I almost turned it off after 15 mins, it takes a little bit to get used to the puppets. I am so glad I stuck with it what a treat this show is. If you can compare the original to Star Wars I would compare the show to Game of Thrones. There has to be a season 2! Voice acting is superb, and the puppet acting is amazing! After watching the documentary how this was made I realized how much more practical effects were used as well as very elaborate and immersive set designs. Many things you think are definitely CG turn out to be all puppetry! These people are the real puppet-masters.
Traveling the Stars: Ancient Aliens with Action Bronson and Friends - 420 Special (2016)
PURE GOLD, ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS
Greatest idea for a show ever. The best piece of stoner content in the longest of time, and the best since it came out. I hope they make another special for 7/10 (since they dab more than anything) and either continue with Ancient Aliens or try and do a Planet Earth type might be good.
If you are reading this somehow and haven't seen this do yourself a huge favor and check it out. Wish I could buy a physical copy of this.
Us (2019)
Disappointing
This is not a serious movie. This is not a scary movie. This is one of those movies you drink through because that's the only way to thoroughly enjoy it. The music DOES NOT fit at all for the most part and is an almost complete RIP OFF of Kenji Kawai's "Making of Cyborg" from the original Ghost in the Shell. It just does not work. Most everything about the plot is just silliness, I regret spending the money, showing a majority of your best shots in the trailer truly pays off. Jordan Peele has become the new M. Night Shyamalon and not in a good way.
Love, Death & Robots (2019)
Finally
I am impressed how they can make these short episodes feel so much longer. There is so much depth to each one.
Reminds me of Neil Blomkamp's Oats Studios, check that out (on YouTube) if you liked LDR for sure. Very gory, very sci-fi, even has a "God" mini-verse thing.
Anyways, the animation/CGI in LDR is top notch, felt like I was tripping at times. I feel like they went a bit overboard on the violence but maybe I'm getting more sensitive to all that. Still it takes animal cruelty videos or snuff clips to make most sick, and I felt sick a few times watching some scenes.
That being said not all episodes are violent, goes at a great pace if you decide to watch it all at once.
The best for me were "Lucky 13", "Good Hunting", "Sucker of Souls", "Secret War", and "Ice Age", but honestly they're all great. 10/10 keep 'em comin'
Metro Exodus (2019)
Leaves you wanting more
The atmosphere is very impressive, this is by far the best looking FPS I have ever played. The gameplay is awesome and the story is gripping. You can really tell how much care went into development. Every single character is memorable. The feelings are genuine, I actually cared about them. Making every mission that much more intense. The mix between the linear segments and open world areas fits perfect with this game. And cruising around the train while it's in motion through the country is so awesome I've been waiting for a game like this for very long (having a mobile home base in an "open world"). Metro Exodus is everything Fallout / Far Cry should've been. Metro highlights that intense FEAR and HORROR that would come with surviving in the post-apocalyptic world, great survival features / HUD, having to patch up holes in your gas mask if it gets too damaged, changing filters, or even just having to wipe it so you can see better, the depth of each mechanic makes it feel that much more immersive. My main negative criticism would be; it crashed a lot on me (about 10 times), in typical Metro fashion there were segments where I couldn't figure out where to go and I would miss what should've been obvious (I blame the developers, I never beat the other Metro's because of this, I probably just suck). And the ending, either one good or bad, should've been a couple hours longer, I truly feel the story was cut short. I know there's a limit to everything, but after investing all that time I expected to see more fruit of my labor and to be able to play in the orchard of those labor trees for a while longer. Like come on, what if uncharted 4 just ended without that ending you play on the beach? It'd feel like a lil hole is missing.
Anyways, this is my favorite post-apocalyptic game by far.
Happy! (2017)
Badass and brilliant breath of fresh air!
This show will not linger or drag on, you'll become comfortable with the CGI thing very quickly, and you'll be cracking up even quicker. I hope Brian Taylor can direct the majority of episodes for season 2, I love his work. Hilarious moments and great one liners, the fight scenes are top notch! There is no shaky-cam nonsense or a thousand different cuts of one punch. The writing is near perfect, I re-watched all eight episodes almost immediately. I can't say I've ever done that with any show, and very few movies do I re-watch immediately after. Also it's christmas right now, 'tis the season to be Happy!!
Chappie (2015)
Funny, sad, badass, and deep.
People who couldn't enjoy this SCI-FI movie are missing the point of a science-fiction movie. Key word: FICTION. And great fiction at that.
Casting Die Antwoord was genius.
Terminator Salvation (2009)
Best Terminator next to T2. Badass movie
What the hell do you people want? This movie is by far better than the rest (except T2 of course!) This post-apocalyptic vision is everything I wanted and more, how underrated this film is. Badass in so many ways, casting has never been more perfect, terminators come in so many varieties, sci-fi af, grittier than ever before, I lay awake at night trying to get myself to dream up a sequel 'cause I know it'll never happen because of all of you idiots you rated this bad. I bet you people like T3 and TGenesis better. How nauseating. SALVATION IS SICK in the non-nauseous way. Coolest portrayal of the future of the terminator universe. I LOVE THIS FILM.
Far Cry 5 (2018)
WORST STORY EVER.
The narrative is absolutely awful. There is no character development anywhere, no clear motives for the cultists other than they're all brainwashed, a silent protagonist (yourself) who just allows people to monologue their bs at him/her, the bad guys are so disappointing anyone whoever thinks this is a good story or even a dark story has been sheltered from that which is actually f'd up. The giant statue of "the father" what the hell is that about? It's like the Statue of Liberty big, not even Hitler had that, the game would've been better off making a rip off of the Red Dawn movie. I can't stomach the things that happen in this game, I was just playing, jumped off a tower, was wingsuiting and then all of a sudden this "bliss" is all around me and it goes to loading screen and next I'm in a cage staring at the stupid Seed dude. Like they could catch me as I'm wingsuiting, there weren't even enemies around and I was in the middle of a mission. Screw Ubisoft, the only thing keeping me from returning this game is the Arcade because I like to create maps. So much more to complain about this wreck. I can't even knife anyone anymore or even shoot someone through cover. Look up the detail difference between this and Far Cry 2 and you'll be amazed. And what's up with the animals that are smokey and I shoot them and they turn into a different animal? The bliss is dumb, the cult is dumb, the vehicles are dumb (can't even pull off a motorcycle), the weapons are dumb, if you don't think anything is this game is dumb than you are definitely dumb. Last Ubisoft game I'll probably ever waste money on.
Westworld (2016)
Greatest show on HBO, meant for intellectuals
Don't be put off by the incredible amount of hate for this show, there are clearly more idiots in this world than there are open minded intellectuals.
Great sci-fi, amazing acting, deep psychological ideas. A complete breakdown of consciousness.
Sahara (2005)
Still waiting for a sequel!
This movie did a great job at making a modern Indiana Jones based off the Clive Cussler character, I don't see why Hollywood is wasting everyone's time making more awful Tomb Raider remakes when there are tons of Dirk Pitt story's to get into! Not to mention how much better an actor McConaughey has become, and such a badass Dirk Pitt is. I'd say it's about time there's a big enough fan-base for this. Let's get it going learn from whatever mistakes you think this movie made and perfect the damn sequel. Why not we have enough remake disasters.
Black Death (2010)
This movie deserves more credit
A masterpiece. Dark, gritty af, great characters, great action, freaky, gripping, every scene is well done. Ignore the simple minds who have given low ratings, what insults their opinions are.
Everything (2017)
Everything is EVERYTHING
I am a wolf, an eagle, a redwood tree, a mushroom, a butterfly, a thundercloud, a hot air balloon, a whale, a jellyfish, micro bacteria, a desert, a planet, a galaxy, an atom. I am the essence of creation moving through everything. Become the sacred geometry that creates the universe. Experience endless perspectives. And greatest of all these things, follow the soothing voice and wisdom of philosopher Alan Watts. The most profound video game simulation experience you will ever have. And if you are open minded enough, eat an eighth of mushrooms before you play, heheh. An unforgettable journey.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)
Major continuity problem! Different writer from last 4 films and it clearly shows!
What a terrible way to RUIN this series and Captain Jack all together. Jack is in no way a genius in this movie, has no plan, and never regains his competence. In every other film he's at least a couple steps ahead of everyone, or uses other characters for his own benefit. In this he's a babbling idiot drunk who is given no clever lines and only states what's in front of him. Continuity error is HUGE in this, Jack's "curse" when he "betrays" the compass doesn't exist in the previous films, he gives it away/loses it at least 5 times. In Dead Man's Chest, we're told that Jack received the compass from Tia Dalma, the human form of the sea goddess Calypso. In this film it's his captain who gives it to him before he dies? What a waste there was so much backstory to show and connect here but the writer seemed dead set on wasting everything the previous films have built up for this film. Why they allowed this movie to be made based off a script that wasn't written by the original writers makes me sick to think about. He could have AT LEAST tried to connect this film with On Stranger Tides in some way, I don't see what the problem was with the mermaid character and the religious man, (they had their new "will turner" and "elizabeth swan" characters RIGHT THERE). They did not need to add stupid young adult offsprings of Turner and Barbosa, how awful an idea. It's 2018 and I'm writing this review now because it still upsets me to think about how my absolute favorite franchise was ruined by this awful script. Don't even get me started on the zombie sharks. (This is the "A Good Day to Die Hard" of the Pirates universe, absolute rubbish).
