Fast Five (2011)
8/10
Incredible!
29 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Fast Five is, for me, the best movie of the series. The movie really matured. There were no more pimped-out cars with neon lights and NOS (Nitrous Oxide Systems), which at first was like trademark Fast & Furious. Now some people may see that as a con, but I would have to disagree. There are a wide variety of amazing cars on display in this film, including Dom's Dodge Challenger, a Toyota Supra, Nissan Skyline, Ford GT40, Koenigsegg CCX and Dodge Charger Police Interceptors. What I noticed was that the characters all suited their respective vehicles, like Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), who is a complete beast, and the Gurkha LAPV, which is an armored military vehicle that annihilates everything in its path, much like Luke Hobbs. Dom mostly drives his Dodge Challenger, which is an American Muscle car and also suits him. So the car coordination is superb in this movie.

The action sequences were also of some class. I was amazed by how realistic everything looked, even though it was completely impossible. The movie consists of some insane stunts, like destroying cars and buildings with a 1 ton safe latched onto a car, a huge fight, which sees 500 pounds of muscle clash, and an exciting plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat and will sometimes catch you by surprise.

The movie also has a large cast, with characters from the previous movies coming together to form the group. Sung Kang, from Tokyo Drift, returns as Han. Although his character died in Tokyo Drift, it was later revealed that the events of Tokyo Drift occur after the events of Fast Five. Ludicrous and Tyrese Gibson return as Tej and Roman from 2 Fast 2 Furious. These familiar face were a nice touch and seeing them work together created a pleasant atmosphere. Some cheesy one liners, from Gibson and Diesel, were an amusing touch. The cast had great chemistry and the acting was solid.

If you are the kind of person that likes to keep it realistic and will comment on everything that is of questionable realism, then you may have a hard time enjoying this movie. At times the movie can be outrageous and over the top, but it is definitely an incredible experience and a memorable movie.

The Croods (2013)
6/10
Great Movie For The Whole Family
29 March 2013
The Croods is a wonderful movie with a great story and amusing characters. The graphics were fantastic as well. Dreamworks has been in fine form recently, delivering great movies (like Rise of the Guardians and Puss in Boots) that will live long the memory.

What I really found surprising, was the fact that the movie was heartwarming and quite emotional. The movie also had various majestic animals on screen, which really enhanced the feeling of being in the prehistoric time. You almost forget you are in the prehistoric time due to the behavior of the family members, which of course is very much like modern day family behavior. The story is constantly effected by the choices each of the family members take, which makes for an interesting plot.

I believe that everyone will enjoy the Croods, no matter what age you are. It's fun, heartwarming and a great experience. A-List actors Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds and Emma Stone provide the voices, which are instantly recognizable, and they really suit their characters. The director also did a magnificent job, especially with the cameras. The camera follows the action excellently and doesn't disorient you. So overall an amazing movie and one that is fun to watch with family or even girlfriends. It's the feel-good movie of 2013 so far.

Epic Movie (2007)

Rule #1: You Do Not Talk About Epic Movie
28 March 2013
I don't even know where to start. This was most likely the dumbest movie I have ever seen. The only reason why I didn't give it a 1, was because I felt bad for Jayma Mays and Kal Penn.

From incredibly retarded characters, bad attempts at humor and awkward parodies, to a plot that makes you want blow your own brains out so you wouldn't have to watch it. This movie made my eyes and ears bleed. Who the hell thought of this.

To those of you who say 'You need a sense of humor to find this funny', I say you actually have to be either extremely retarded or a five-year-old who would laugh at anything. This movie is anything but epic. 'Biggest waste of $20.000.000' would have been a more accurate title.

Now to look at some positive aspects. I think the end credits were pretty good. That feeling I got when the movie ended, it was like I had just survived the apocalypse. You really should avoid this movie. Don't even rent it. Just forget this ever existed.

Incredible Mix of Modern Cybercrime and Old-School Die Hard
28 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, congratulations to Len Wiseman for not messing this up and creating a brainless shootout movie. I was so worried that was going to happen. But it didn't, so thank Len.

The plot was excellent, because of the great antagonist who basically wants to bring down the U.S with a massive cyber attack. Great acting by all the cast members, especially Jason Long who brings that bit of 'hopeless guy humor' after a classic John McClane action scene. This epic nerd who calls himself 'Warlock' and lives in his mom's basement also assists and pisses off McClane, which is pretty amusing.

There are of course some fast-paced action scenes with explosions coming at you from almost everything that is sent to kill McClane, including a helicopter and a fifth-generation fighter jet. The guy took out a helicopter with a car! That's insane.

Anyway, it's an intelligent movie that was well written and directed. Not too outrageous or insane, with just the right amount of McClaneness. If you haven't watched the previous Die Hard movies, you'll still enjoy and appreciate this one. It doesn't connect with the previous movies at all, so the plot won't be confusing. If he wasn't already, Bruce Willis will definitely be a legend after this movie. It's, like I said, a great combination of modern cybercrime and old-school Die Hard.

Wanted (2008)
8/10
Shooting dudes through another dudes eye socket. Nice!
27 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This is a movie created solely for outrageous, yet fantastic action. There's not much of a storyline, so if you're the kind of guy looking for a dramatic story full of romance and drama, then go find another movie. Timur Bekmambetov pulls out all the stops in a high-end, outrageous and i'm pretty sure impossible action movie. From an extreme car chase in a beautiful Dodge Viper, to James McAvoy shooting people through the eye socket of some dude they call the 'Repairman'.

'Wanted' is a movie you can watch when there is nothing to do or if you just feel like watching people get their heads torn apart by bullets and knives. Once again, if you're looking for a good story, then don't even bother with this movie.

James McAvoy is a great actor and he doesn't fail to impress me here. He plays a depressed, barely sane, broke guy who is sick of his obese and really annoying boss at his dead-end job. He portrays the character so well and always in this sarcastic tone at the beginning. His character then changes into a total bad-ass who completely destroys everything without giving a single s**t. Then there's Sloan, portrayed by Morgan Freeman, who is the boss of the group of assassins. Morgan Freeman is amazing as always, playing it cool and not shooting anybody. Angelina Jolie, who is definitely not my favorite actress when it comes to action movies, plays a traumatized, semi-autistic woman who doesn't give a crap about anyone. There wasn't really much to play for her. She sort of just stares awkwardly at everybody.

So overall, it was a good movie and a good way to pass the time. Amazing action sequences mixed with blood, gore and pretty much a slow-motion every time a bullet is fired. Not a girls movie, that's for sure.

Total Recall (I) (2012)
7/10
A Len Wiseman Special
28 February 2013
I wasn't expecting much from this movie at the start. I had not watched the original movie (with Arnold Schwarzenegger) so I didn't really know what the story was. I was expecting an overdose of action and a confusing plot.

I was pleasantly surprised by Colin Farrel's acting. I feel he has really improved as an actor and I thought the chemistry between him and co-stars Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel was great. The action sequences were fun to watch and exciting. Fast paced action sequences kept me refreshed and the stunning Kate Beckinsale, who you may know from 'Underworld' and 'Van Helsing', nailed the antagonist role.

The director, Len Wiseman, who previously surprised by making 'Live Free or Die Hard' a fantastic action film, has once again done his job well. The storyline was clear and made sense, which was more than what I had expected. I admit that it could have been better, because the climax was kind of dull compared to the rest of the movie, but definitely worth the watch.

The Force Is Strong With This One
28 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
The conclusion of the rather disappointing prequel trilogy is actually pretty epic. The movie is full of great action sequences and exiting duels. George Lucas definitely redeemed himself after the disappointment of the first two movies.

The acting from some actors is also outstanding, as opposed to some of it in the first two movies. Ewan McGregor shines brightest with his acting (like in the previous movies). When you watch this movie, you will find that he really brings out all of Obi-Wan's emotions and feelings towards other characters. I am so glad that Hayden Christensen improved his acting. That really makes it much less awkward.

There is as much action in this movie as in all the other Star Wars movies combined. The choreography of the duels is really good and they combine the fighting with the emotions of the characters, which makes it that much more intense and exciting. Those scenes alone make the movie worth watching.

I guess you could say that it lacks the hero figure and happy ending, but I never really expected that, because the story of the prequel trilogy is about how Anakin became Darth Vader and how the battle between the Empire and the Rebels started.

If you haven't watched the first two movies of the trilogy, i would suggest you watch them first, because I doubt you would understand the story. But this movie is a lot better than the first two in all areas, so I guess we could make an exception.
