Wafer thin story and sub-par acting drag this one down
2 November 2021
The male lead is the son of Mick Jagger and his performance is just flat-out bad, distractingy so. Pluses include Camille Rowe who is solid, there is some effectively creepy underwater photography on show and the visual team should be commended but... There's just not a whole lot on offer here aside from the above with very little by way of actual plot or story to build tension.

Even ardent horror fans should consider giving this one a miss I'm afraid.

Trailer had me intrigued, but the film itself does not offer a whole lot more than that
31 October 2021
Not enough meat on the bone for this script, seemed like a decent setup but it never really got out of the first act and failed to establish any kind of "stakes" to help ramp up the tension. Overall production values were decent and the acting fine for the most part. I suggest giving this one a miss however as even the "creepy pasta" subject-matter is unfulfilling.

Solid survival drama
22 April 2021
Just like this director's other feature film 'Arctic', 'Stowaway' is a solid survival drama this time in the guise of a semi-hard sci-fi. If you enjoy survival films then this is probably worth your time.

The one-sided conversations go a long way to reinforcing the isolated nature of the crew, and the ending is entirely satisfactory (despite what some other reviewers might suggest). It looks good, has an atmospheric sound track and a small but solid cast featuring the always terrific Toni Collette.

It's not quite as good as 'Arctic' but I still enjoyed my time with this one and will be checking out the director's future work.

Score seems fair. Looks great. Forgettable plot
14 February 2021
While this is one of the better Chinese produced movies I've watched recently (not saying much really), with a terrific setting, cinematography and colour grading, and an effectively atmospheric soundtrack, I can't rate it higher given the ultimately forgettable revenge plot and cardboard-thin characterisations. Not terrible though and certainly at least watchable.

Excellent drama made with the help of the victims parents
21 December 2020
After all the sensational headlines revolving around this case, this drama brings the focus back on those dealing with the aftermath of a brutal crime by focusing on both the parents of the victim, and the investigators doing the work of making sure the perpetrator (who very tellingly gets no screen time or mention by name) will spend the rest of their life in prison.

Top-notch acting, cinematography, and the usual subdued approach of these scandi-dramas makes for a very bingeable limited series. Really enjoyed this one.
