Så var det jul igjen (2023)
Norwegian jul is a thing
Funny view on culture crash between Norway and the outside world.
Remember that there are only 5 million Norwegians, and Jul and May 17 are days where we are focused on our traditions. Our ways are a bit strange.
Jashan is representing the outside world. Nothing to do with his nationality specifically.
As a Norwegian I felt this made me think of how hung up we are on our traditions.
25% of our population migrated to USA in the late 1800s. For those left it was a crisis and the national romanticism started in Norway. Bunad, Jul tradition and more were important when rebuilding our nation's self esteem.

Love the language diversity
As an European citizen I loved how so many languages were spoken in this series.
There are of course films coming out of Hollywood with language diversity, but either it is a Spanish / English mix or a made up language like Klingon.
Main story of the series is thrilling and exciting to see progress.
The series has in general a rather slow pace. Some of it is building atmosphere, but most of it is just stalling time.
The side stories vary in quality. Some are existing to learn more about, but others are one dimensional and predictable.
Music: The selection of songs to finish each episode is a complete mismatch for me.
Anyways: I enjoyed binging it during the weekend.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Predictable and unrealistic
The story is quite predictable right from the start. Lost girl wearing a summer dress on an abandoned polar research base: ok, I think I know where this is going.
Everything space-related is just unrealistic. That doesn't have an impact on the story, but it just prevents me from believing the scenes.
Great acting, but the story just not good enough
The Revenant (2015)
1820's super human
How many injuries can a man endure in a film before it starts being ridiculous?
The attraction to water whilst being mid-winter is also ridiculous. Jumping into water to drink water, or jumping into water to catch fish, when it is ice and snow. That is what might seem normal for people never experienced sub-freezing temperatures, but come on... He would have died after 5 minutes.
The realism aside: the story is good. Following a man that has nothing getting his will by share resilience. I bet this was a novel with 1000+ pages.
