Just a short note to say, I don't think everyone gets it.

I get that this is not one of the all time best silent movies however this is a very good representation of the burgeoning art of filmmaking. The director is trying to make a large film using pieces of the entire Holmes catalog. Does he make an Oscar winner? Well, since the Oscars weren't created when this movie was made I guess we will never know.

Still, this is an amazing piece of history that you should watch for what it is, a restoration. To even discuss the technical aspects of lighting etc, is just pure silliness, it's 1922 for goodness sake! I love Holmes, I love Barrymore, I love this movie. It's history. It's where we came from, watch it in that light and you will enjoy it so much more.

Not a bad bit of cinema (may contain spoilers)

Warning: Spoilers
I guess I am in the minority. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, an early look at mutiny and class disparity. I disagree with other reviewers, in that I didn't find myself sympathetic to either side. I also disagree that somehow the movie takes a turn toward the rich side of the argument. I find both sides were equally abominable even and up until the end. It is a very interesting look at an issue that is very poignant even in 1930.

The rich are still feeling their superiority and the workers are merely asking for their equal treatment. The workers are asking for respect, to not be called "beast" and "monster". The rich do not seem to understand that even at the end. It's unfortunate that many people cannot see that this is all that they want. Both sides are equally duplicitous through the entire movie.

Criminal Minds: Strange Fruit (2013)
Season 9, Episode 9

I hated this episode

We need to find justice for the 6 white men who castrate and hang an innocent man but there is no justice for the victim of this disgusting crime that was perpetrated? "I will keep your secret" ???? This episode is everything that is wrong with TV. I am not "holier than thou" but I missed the "justice" for the inconsistency in the victimology in this episode.

This was a terrible episode. I understand that murder is wrong however the evil that was done to this man...is ....HORRIBLE. To ask this man to "rise above" the humiliation and anger that he must have felt is in and of itself a tragic and demeaning.

Miami Vice: The Home Invaders (1985)
Season 1, Episode 19

A truly great episode

This is one of the best episodes of the series. The viciousness of the villains captures you from the outset. The real tension interestingly enough comes from within the team itself. When vice is called in to help the robbery division solve a string of home invasions, the emotions are kicked up a notch as Castillo's cool and meticulous police work clashes with the robbery squads methods and top officer.

The middle of the episode is an amazing piece of film work. Watching Castillo's methods and his control of his emotions makes this an absolute joy to watch. I get goosebumps every time I watch this episode.

Crockett's attempt to bride the two worlds of his past mentor and the respect for his current leader make this one of the top ten episodes to watch.

Rear Window (1954)

A movie that should be watched year.y

This movie is on everyone's Top-Something list. Rightfully so. It is amazing that 99% of the movie is told from the single room. Hitchcock is at his best. He manages to keep the viewer is on the edge of his/her respective seat throughout the whole movie. He keeps the viewer in suspense through the whole thing. It is a very unique quality from a director who can keep one engaged and unless it's pointed out, you don't even realize that you haven't really changed scenes.

Hitchcock is pure genius in this film. This is a film that even though I have seen it many times, somehow it always catches me. Now I make sure that I see this movie once a year. This is true cinema magic.
