Unpaused: Naya Safar (2022)
Best anthology series of modern times
If you haven't watched it yet, no need to read the reviews, just go and watch it because it's beautiful, it's sad, it's lovely, and it's enjoyable.
Many anthologies have been made in the last few years. Ankahi Kahaniya, Ajeeb Dastaans are two examples. But Unpaused: Naya Safar eclipses them all. The last story is the best by far, but it is best to watch it in sequence to set up the aura, the depth of the issues, to dive deep in the times of early 2021.
The stories are very real and are depicted in their full reality without adding dramatizing elements. The direction is great (no overuse of portrait mode) and many many new actors are shining in great roles!
Ajeeb Daastaans (2021)
Worth watching. Geeli Pucchi and Khilauna are great.
Worth watching. Geeli Pucchi (third story) and Khilauna (second story) are great. One is a social commentary and the other is another social commentary mixed with mystery.
Majnu (the first story) is not the best but carried by good acting by Aihlawat. The story is not the best and feels forced.
Ankahi (the last story) is great. Possibly the best acting role of the whole series is by Shefali Shah in this story.
I felt that Khilauna is sexualized for no apparent reason but the story is good overall. Finally, Geeli Pucchi, really nicely showcases the complex issues of caste, love, and worker conditions. Would loved more focus on that last part, but hey, it's a short story and definitely worth watching.
Ankahi Kahaniya (2021)
Worth watching, enjoyable short stories.
Great job by the actors, the stories lacked depth but made for an entertaining watch.
The first story explores loneliness and friendships in urban societies. The depth it lacked was about the labor exploitation by the shop owner.
The second story has the depth that is missing from the first story. It is a cute story of a young couple who face oppressive situations in their lives and their ways to deal with it. This is the best story in the series.
My only complain is that the last story lacked conviction and was very predictable. It follows a very well-known arc of how two people fall in love.
