Preacher (2016)
My review for Preacher
Well, this show has come and gone but what did I think of it? It was hilarious! The story is about a Preacher. However, this preacher has done bad things in the past. In the first episode, something goes into his body and gives him the power to control people if he wants. He gets into trouble and other messes, along with his sidekick (a vampire). And some agents come after him because of what's inside him.
Be prepared for anything, because no matter what, something bad will happen. But there are some really funny moments that will make you laugh, guaranteed.
There was one part of the season - without spoiling anything - that had to do with animal deaths, which I didn't like ... yeah, I'm an animal lover.
My final thoughts: Well, this was a great show with comedy, action, supernatural elements, and crazy moments. It might not be for everyone due to some stuff that it shows, but for those who want to see something different, with funny and cool characters (and supernatural stuff), then this will be your cup of tea.
Finding Nemo (2003)
My review for Finding Nemo
Well, for starters, I did see some of it when I was little but never fully watched the movie before now. I finally watched it to get prepared for the new movie. So what did I think of the first one? It was fun watching the father trying to save his son with the help of Dory and seeing the son trying to escape his situation with other fishes.
The funniest character is Dory, with her short term memory loss.
As for the animation, it still holds up pretty well, but I can still notice a few things about it due to its age. It still looks good, though.
What else is there to say? It was a great, fun movie; definitely something everyone should watch.
Finding Dory (2016)
My review for Finding Dory
This movie was great - a nice story that's more nerve-wracking than the first one, with Dory trying to find her parents and her friends trying to find - and save - her.
The animation style is the same, but the graphics have improved and it looks really nice.
There were funny moments that were hilarious and also some moments of sadness for Dory. And to see these characters again was enjoyable.
If you haven't watched the first film, do it before you watch this.
Finding Dory is great, just as good as the first, with some really tense, fun moments, and great humor.
Samurai Chanpurû (2004)
My review for Samurai Champloo
Well, this show had a second good run. Since I was stuck with either watching it on Netflix or Toonami, I decided to watch it on Toonami, because I have enough shows to watch on Netflix already. This would be my routine on Saturday nights.
The story is basically your typical type where they travel around and we get some filler - and some of them were good and funny, except for the zombie one though (that one was like it was in its own universe).
But I really enjoyed the story overall, and I really liked the characters.
It was a joy to watch them interact with each other and it made me laugh every time I watched them.
The art style is nice, but I noticed some weird animations at points.
I liked the music but I'm not really into the hip-hop stuff, which was the opening.
My final thoughts: Well, this was the first time I watched it and I'm glad that I decided to watch it on Toonami. Another great hilarious anime.
Ghostbusters (1984)
My review for Ghostbusters
For the first time in my life, I watched this film a few weeks ago, and what did I think of it? Well, I can say that I enjoyed this film.
I liked the characters - how they acted, it was funny and entertaining.
I also enjoyed that the city was under attack by a powerful force, and it was up to the Ghostbusters to stop the evil.
And yes, the classic music that everyone already knows, is still catchy to this day.
My final thoughts:
This was a fun movie and I think you would like it. Another great classic film from the 80s.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
My review for Close Encounters of the Third Kind
This is another Steven Spielberg movie that I recently watched, but what did I think of it? Well, being an early Spielberg film, you know tell that it's not going to be either scary or too intense, and this film has his theme.
It was an interesting story, and the best scene was when the main character is trying to figure what place these spaceships are going, and tears up his yard with his family and neighbors watching him.
The beginning of the film is really interesting.
The story starts with lights going out around a city, and soon, you find out that alien ships are flying around and knocking out the electricity. The main character wants to find out what is going on and why these weird things are happening to him.
I had somewhat of an issue for the ending, at least for the main character, it wasn't bad but kinda sad and like, oh come on, but oh well....
Since this is from the late 70s, the graphics are old but hey - I just enjoy a film no matter how old it is.
My final thoughts: I will say it was a good film. I think if you like alien films then you'll probably like this one. I may have an issue with how it ends with the one character, but it was still enjoyable.
Deadpool (2016)
My review for DeadPool:
This movie was hilarious. DeadPool falls in love, but things happen to turn him into DeadPool, and he is now on the hunt - and getting tied into X-Men.
I will say, though ... for a Marvel film, this movie isn't for everyone; it's rated R And yeah ... I can see the reasons why.
DeadPool has got to be the funniest character in the Marvel universe - how he cracks a joke or mentions things in the film that are in the film, stuff like that.
This movie had some epic action scenes and music that fit well. And one hilarious scene in particular that will make you laugh so much, that you shouldn't eat anything while you're watching it.
My final thoughts: In general, I like every Marvel film, so as always I think it's superb. It's a very funny movie, but it could have done without some inappropriate scenes ...
Nanatsu no taizai (2014)
Review for a new Netflix Anime!
The Seven Deadly Sins is another original anime from Netflix, just like Knights of Sidonia, and Ajin: Demi-Human. But is it a good anime to watch? Read to find out! In this fantasy world, about ten years ago, a whole group of Knights were slaughtered by the Seven Deadly Sins, and the king was killed. Ten years have past, and the holy knights are still on the hunt for the Seven Deadly Sins. The story soon starts us off with a little guy serving food and drinks in his bar, but people talking about the seven deadly sins gets them a bit tense, and soon after words, a knight comes in, saying the seven deadly sins, everyone runs out like they smelled a fart. Soon the person in the armor falls and it comes apart showing a female, she soon says she is looking for the seven deadly sins to the little guy, but it turns out that he is Meliodas, the leader of the seven deadly sins. They soon head out on a journey to look for the rest of the deadly sins, and they will find out about a dark plan that is in the capitol.
The characters are great, they have their own personalities, and the way they interact with each other is funny, you will get attached to these characters.
As for the art style, its nice, it looks a little bit like Fairy Tail in a sense, but I will say, even though it looks like a child friendly anime, it's not. If you have Akame Ga Kill, and Fairy Tail, but them together and you have The Seven Deadly Sins. I was surprised by the gore in this anime, due to the art style.
For the music, catchy, it sounds like Fairy Tail's type soundtrack.
Now there is one issue for people that don't like stuff that's out there. Now without giving much away, but there will be points, even near the end of the show where they face these creature with a human figure at the bottom of their stomach, and where people turn into them, there is a reason for this, which is good, but it might be a little out there for some people.
There is also one thing that was never explained for one character in the last episode sooooo you're left with nothing.
I will say though that it is left with a cliffhanger, but in a sense, its more like there will be another season.
And what Netflix does best, you can also listen to it in Spanish, French, German, Japanese, which I would probably like to watch again in Spanish, sense I'm still learning Spanish and there is also not much anime dubbed in Spanish. The English dub is also perfect!
My Final Thoughts: This show is probably better than Knights of Sidonia, it has action, likable characters, and a compelling story! If you like Anime or a Fairy Tail/Akame Ga Kill type anime, this is it, and it's a Netflix original! Besides the weird parts of the show, this anime is superb!
Union Bound (2016)
My review for Union Bound
Two reasons why I went to go see this: one, my cousin Dane worked on the music, and two, I like history.
So what did I think? Time for the review! The story takes place during the Civil War. Two Union soldiers are captured by the Confederates. They are taken to a prison camp and escape shortly after. This is where I will leave off.
The story is based on a true event that was written by the main character, in his diary.
The characters are interesting, especially one that is humorous.
This is a low budget film, so I knew going in that it wouldn't be like the quality of a Marvel film. But the acting was decent, and some scenes did hit you with emotion and humor.
One of my only complaints is that when we watched it in the theater, the dialogue volume was kinda low, so it was hard to hear what they were saying at points.
My Final Thoughts: For a low budget film, it wasn't bad. Dane did a great job with the music, which really did impact the moments of a scene and show the Southern part of America; it fits. The action was decent and the story was good.
Akame ga Kill! (2014)
My review for Akame Ga Kill!
Akame Ga Kill is over, but was it a fun ride? If you wanna know, read to find out! Well, Akame Ga Kill is a show that was pretty epic! The story was good, the action scenes were superb, the characters were interesting, the art style was beautiful and colorful, and the music was catchy.
The whole plot might not be original but it still works - especially the part where the assassins help the revolutionary force overthrow the empire.
This show is like Game of Thrones - you can't get too attached to a particular character. It was disappointing to see certain ones get taken off the chessboard. However, it was still enjoyable, even though my favorite characters weren't around anymore at the very end.
My Final Thoughts: One issue I had with this show was that I wish they would have followed the mangas. They could have at least waited until the creator was done with the story. But still, the ending was satisfying. I miss all the characters and the ending left me wanting more epicness. So all in all, it was a great show.
The Walking Dead (2010)
My review for The Walking Dead Season 6
Another season came and gone for The Walking Dead, but was it a good one? Well, this season delivered a good plot with some new characters.
What was nice in the first episode was that they used black and white, to show what was past.
With some good and okay episodes, but the best one was the return of The Walking Dead, and when they met Jesus.
Now there isn't much to talk about due to the fact that it is a repetitive thing, but I like the fact of a new organization and different colonies established around Virginia.
But like every other show, there can be bad writing, at least at points for characters to do stupid stuff in the show.
This has happened several times during each season, and it still happens, this is at least one flaw I'm having with The Walking Dead, it's the points of where the writing can be silly. Don't write a point of where a character is distracted that they get killed..It's the freakin apocalypse! people and zombies are dangerous.
Now as for it being repetitive, yes but it still works, and they also try new things, but what I've noticed is how it focuses more on the people they're fighting, even though it has happened before, It is really focused on it in this season, with the wolfs, and negan's army.
I think the best moments for this season is how Abraham and Eugene say some of the most funniest things, and yes, still like Daryl, an interesting character, and Michonne, Morgan, and Carol, showing them interact and show their struggles. And even Maggie being pregnant.
My final thoughts: The Walking Dead is still a good show, even though the flaws are there, but, still enjoyable, along with Fear the Walking Dead, and yes, I like my Zombies. I think this season was a pretty good one...except for the last episode...The cliffhanger...But over all I thought it was a good season.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
My review for Batman V Superman:
My review for Batman V Superman: When seeing the trailers for this film, I had mixed feelings..
But after watching it for myself, here is my review.
The Story takes place after the 2013 Superman movie, Bruce Wayne is there when the events of that movie happened, and now, 2 years after, People are judging Superman, while Batman is dealing with crime in Gotham, he wants to challenge Superman knowing of what the future will lay for humanity.
I will say that Batman steals the show in this movie, I think Ben Affleck did a good job as Bruce wayne/Batman.
Also featured in this film is Wonder Woman, which her appearance was awesome.
As for the villain Lex Luthor, he acts more comedic like the joker, so either way, you may not like how the actor acts with this character.
Now the movie was about 2 hours, but I enjoyed every moment of it, seeing the two face each other, and other cross overs being leaked. (Which is leading us to the Justice League) The music always pulls you into the moment.
The style of the film is somewhat dark and grey.
My final thoughts: Well, it's time to eat all those words who reviewed this and said it was bad, you were all wrong! It had a good story, and a great cross over! Marvel may have done a better job at making the cross overs due to the fact that there's more films of Marvel than DC.
But besides that, this movie was Awesome!
Zootopia (2016)
My Review for Zootopia
Well, when we went to go see this film, I had no idea what we were seeing, but after it was over, what did I think of it?
Disney did it again!
The characters are great, story superb, and the music is great. It also teaches a life lesson, which really shows how life is, and how to follow your dreams.
For the story, it follows a bunny who wants to become the first bunny to ever be on the police force. She will find out, that following her dream is hard, and she will get mixed up into a whole other mess in Zootopia.
The Animation was gorgeous.
And also laughable moments. XD
My final thoughts:
Well, Disney has made a new movie that everyone should watch, it give us all a life lesson, it's funny, the story is great, and it shows that Disney can make a good 3d movie without Pixar. So this film is Superb!
Yuuki Yuuna wa yuusha de aru (2014)
My review for Yuki Yuna is a Hero
I found out about Yuki Yuna is a Hero when someone mentioned it was like SAO, so I gave it a shot and here are my thoughts.
If you're familiar with Sailor Moon or other animes like it, then you know what to expect. A team of girls are chosen by some sort of religion or something - over in Japan they call it the Shinju. The girls are put in some sort of forest or parallel world; they must protect the Divine Tree from creatures that are trying to destroy it.
But whatever happens there can have a major effect on our own world.
This show has some emotional moments that are depressing ... what the characters have to go through, the suffering, things they find out about the Shinju, and some other scenes that are emotional.
The characters are interesting, but I did have at least one issue with two characters: Yuki and Karin. For the other characters, we got some of their backstory as the show played along, but for these two, not so much. They did mention Karin's reason/motivation, but didn't go into detail about her history.
As for the story, well, it was pretty good. However, I will say that with female characters, anime always likes to show off women's bodies, and this show did that a few times, but not as much as a show like High School of the Dead. Many people might not like the story due to some weird stuff like the place they go and fight, the monsters they face, and the parallel world.
I was curious how the ending would play out; sometimes when I look at an anime I wonder if it will end tragic or sad. This show had me thinking the entire time, wondering if it would end with a bad or sad conclusion. Luckily, most of it didn't end that way, but it left you with at least one thing that was never explained.
Many people, for some weird reason, say bad things about dubs, but this show had some good voice acting. They did a good job of bringing these characters to life. Some people might say they don't sound as young as in the Japanese version, but who cares about that? Teens can sometimes sound like adults, and I think the voices fit these characters.
The animation and art style is beautiful.
As for music..yeah...dunno, maybe not memorable.
My final thoughts: This show may not be for everyone. When I first watched it I thought it was kinda ..eh.. like I didn't know if it would be good, but I did get hooked after watching it for a while. The characters made me want to come back. I thought the story and the dub were good, the animation and art style was beautiful, and the characters were interesting. This show might not be for everyone though. As for me, I don't like seeing emotional or tragic things, but this one isn't as bad as I thought. If you like Sailor Moon and any other anime that is like that one, then go for it. If you don't like those types, then move along. I personally thought this show was pretty good.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
My review for Star Wars: The Force Awakens
This movie takes place 30 years after Return of the Jedi, and a lot of things have happened. You'll see new characters and familiar ones too.
As soon as the title started I was pumped; it had been 10 years since Episode 3, so this was something to get excited about.
From beginning to end it was an awesome experience. The story was great, seeing the new and old, references to the trilogy and prequels, just fantastic. Though...one part in this film was really disappointing but I shouldn't give it away - that would spoil it.
This film felt like it had more action than some of the others. I'm not saying that there wasn't a lot of action in the others; there was, it's just that this film has more. There were also some good comedic moments, and dark ones as well.
The thrill of seeing Star Wars again is epic, J.J Abrams really did a good job on this film, and I can't wait to see the other ones.
My Final Thoughts: This film is something you shouldn't miss. If you're a Star Wars fan, definitely watch it. I'm glad Star Wars has returned, and this new trilogy will lead us into a whole other arc of epicness. The story was great, most of the old main characters have returned, and you see a new generation join in on the adventure. THIS MOVIE WAS EXELENTE!!
Shingeki no kyojin (2015)
Is it good as the Anime?
So we saw the live action version of Attack on Titan, and was it as good as the anime? Well, read to find out.
If you don't know the story of this series I'll just go ahead and explain. A hundred years ago, titans arrived and killed a lot of people, but humanity built walls to protect themselves from the titans. In present day, the main characters live their lives still inside the walls. But some of them are bored and want to go outside the wall to see what's there. That's when chaos happens. I won't spoil anything else.
But is the live action story the same as the anime? Well...yes and no. For starters, the world is the same except that there's a combination of modern weapons and old, and the beginning starts off - and ends - differently from the anime. There are things from the anime that still play a part in this version of the story, even though there are changes.
This movie was dark and really bloody (live action violence might bother some people more than anime violence). There were at least two characters I couldn't tell if they were made for this version, or if they were in a anime (they could have been a combination of characters), but the really sad part is that Levi isn't in here. There's a character that seems to be modeled after him, even though he has a different personality (he's more humorous than anime Levi).
What I liked about this movie was that we get a real life version of our beloved anime. It was really nice to see at least three characters that looked exactly like Eren, Mikasa, and Hanji; the actors for them were good picks.
The dramatic and emotional scenes really make you feel like you're in the chaos, which was nice. As for the titans themselves - they're even more creepy than in the anime.
Now, a lot of people would probably not like the changes from the series, but I thought it was a good thing. Like Death Note, it had the main plot but with a different take. I like seeing a different take on things sometimes - like with Fullmetal Alchemist, when you watch Brotherhood after seeing the original it's a new adventure even though some elements are the same. That's what I liked about the live action movie of Attack on Titan
Final thoughts: If you're a big Attack on Titan fan and don't mind change, then go for it. I thought it was pretty good.
Michiko to Hatchin (2008)
My Review for Michiko & Hatchin
Michiko & Hatchin is different compared to other animes out there, but from beginning to end it was a blast. Having said that, I don't know if this would be something I'd re-watch. The story was interesting. It takes place in Brazil, where we meet Michiko (a troublemaker with a criminal background) and Hatchin (daughter of Michiko), who both set out to look for Hatchin's father. One thing I like about this anime is that you get to see a different culture, country, etc. Also, the side stuff was fun to watch but after a while I felt that I wanted to see more of the main plot instead of the standalone episodes. Monica Rial did a great job voice acting her character (Michiko), as did many of the other character voices. Some of the characters I found kind of hard to understand - i.e., what their motives were, if they were good or bad, or why they did this or that. But still, it was fun watching them. Michiko & Hatchin is not bad at all - true, some may not like it as much as others but I think if you want to watch something different, then watch this; the characters are interesting and the plot is good (despite the side stories) - basically a solid anime overall.
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
It's as good as The Walking Dead
So Fear the Walking Dead is over, and is it as good as the original Walking Dead? Well read to find out if it captures the same essence as the original.
For starters, The Walking Dead is a zombie apocalypse story, and it pretty much begins after the apocalypse has happened. Fear the Walking Dead takes a different approach, it begins at the start of the zombie apocalypse and takes place in Los Angeles. Like the original, it involves several different people: a man and his girlfriend (and having to deal with her family matters), and his ex-wife and son. The girlfriend has a son who's addicted to drugs. At the very beginning, he wakes up in a church after a drug binge, and he finds blood in different places. He tries to find the girl he was with, and she's already a zombie eating someone. He runs out like a mad man and then gets hit by a car, and you see that people don't know what's going on. But I don't want to spoil anything else.
Now, some people have a complaint about the characters but I disagree - these characters have to adapt to the new world as civilization falls to the walkers, and they were interesting.
I will say that when a story is slow, it doesn't work for shows sometimes (like Sword Art Online 2 in the first arc), but Fear the Walking Dead nailed it! In a perfect way, since this is the beginning stage of everything. It works, even though there aren't a lot of zombies, and not a lot of action in the beginning. Some people had complaints about that too, but again I would have to disagree. Sometimes slow-paced does work in shows, and for this one it did.
Now this show made me nervous from the very beginning - from episode 1 all the way until the last episode, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, because we (the audience) know what's going to happen to civilization, and mmmmmaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnn it did a great job making you feel so scared.
My final thoughts: The Walking Dead is a good show, but for years now it felt like Call of Duty coming out each year (same gameplay), and like Inuyasha, with many episodes feeling the same as the gang killed demon after demon. The Walking Dead was getting like that - repetitive - but not to the point of me not wanting to watch it. Fear the Walking Dead was a great spin-off of this series, and I'm glad that they made it because it made me pumped to come back to the original show. In a sense it helps promote TWD - like a summer version of the original - which was cool because you didn't have to wait for months to see more zombies. While it had elements of the original Walking Dead, it also brought something new to enjoy, which I really appreciated. So yeah - it was great!
Sword Art Online: Gun World (2014)
What I think about this season.
Note: this is a review for the whole season, so spoiler alert.
To recap the first season, I liked it. I liked the story, and the dub was well done. Though the second half's story was good, the world they were in was lame. That was my only issue with it.
Now on to season two: Arc 1: I thought this arc was pretty good overall. When the first episode aired it was nice to see the characters again and hear the voice actors too. The whole crime solving thing was good, but there were some issues. A big one was the fact that it was slow. Sure, there were a few episodes that had action, but really, some episodes had little or no action in them. And one other issue is the fact that Kirito kept saying that you can't kill in the games anymore (now, you would have to hear what he means by that at each episode) ..but he shouldn't be saying that! Because it could happen again! The new character, Sinon, can be bad A** when she has her lovely sniper rifle, but at some points in this arc, she could be a bit annoying. However, I thought Michelle Ruff did an excellent job with her voice. As for Death Gun, he was a good villain for this arc that's for sure and Ben Diskin was a good choice for the character; he's cool. And the music in SAO is always catchy. I also thought that this arc had a combination of elements from Star Wars and Terminator, due to the stages they were in and, yes, the lightsaber.
Arc 2: This arc was......meh... Based on my comment about the second half of season one, you probably know that I think the the fairy world is lame. I would have preferred for the creator to make it an elf world or something else. The thing is, there is no life threatening situation in this arc, even though the game was going to be deleted. I think they should have just destroyed that world. Another issue is when Kirito said that he couldn't hold onto Excalibur, so he let it go/dropped it. Then Sinon gets it back for him after he threw it away on purpose and for some reason he accepted it back from her .... yeah, that made no sense. The one thing I liked was the action scenes, but in general I didn't care for this arc so much.
Arc 3: Well, I don't like depressing or sad stories, but it's SAO, so of course I'll watch this. I do like the real life stuff that was going on between Asuna and her mother. I liked seeing the different characters, and the action scenes were good. But as with arc 2, because there wasn't any real sense of danger and it was sad, this arc was just ... okay.
As for the dub - excellent as ever.
Now for my overall rating for this season ... it's kinda hard. One arc was good, while the others weren't as good for me; maybe the third arc was better than the second but in general the first one was the only one that really stood out this season even though it was sllooowww. For me, this season would probably fall somewhere in the middle between bad and great, due to the the last two arcs and the fact that the danger isn't as high.
Season 3 will be about Kirito's childhood friend, military experiments, Matrix-type stuff, and the last member of the Death Gun group. Hopefully this new story will be interesting.
Rakuen Tsuiho: Expelled from Paradise (2014)
Is it good? Read to find out.
just finished this Anime film tonight called Expelled from Paradise and I thought it was good. When I saw a trailer for it, I thought it would be good for Toonami, and it could be, but since I watched it already, lets see if it will interest you guys . The plot takes place in a time where people have been digitized and are in a new world in a space computer. But someone/something is trying to hack into their world, so a woman by the name Angela Balzac, goes down to earth (where humans now have a hard time living in this apocalyptic world). She comes down to find the hacker and to rendezvous with a man named Dingo. When they meet, well, the first thing is trouble - and that's where the story starts. It later has a twist where you think the bad isn't bad sort of thing. But after it was over I had this feeling where I wish there was more to their journey and I would have liked to see what they were doing even after the film fully ended. There are few clips in the middle of the credits, and at the very end of the credits, just a two or three second thing and that's it; the last clip was very short. I thought Steve Blum (Dingo) and Wendee Lee (Angela) did a great job as well as Johnny Yong Bosch (Frontier Setter). I enjoyed watching it all the way until the end.
I don't know how many people would watch it and like it, but I guess you could watch it to find out for yourself. The animation was good - it had that 3D-ish type of feeling and a mixture of anime. It also had a Matrix feel to it because of the world that Angela comes from, and also a wild west feel to it in some scenes. Overall, a good film.
Sidonia no Kishi (2014)
My overall thoughts on this show
This is another show I just finished, and all I can say is that it may not be for everyone. What's neat is that it's the first original Netflix anime. So I gave it a shot and I liked it. The story is about a boy coming out of his hidey-hole into the public world. It turns out that the world he's in is a spaceship, Earth is destroyed, and humanity has lived in the spaceship for six hundred years, while aliens known as Gauna are trying to destroy them. What does humanity have? Robots, obviously. The robot pilots are Knights of Sidonia. The last episode is ..... well as usual with a lot of shows, this one ends in a cliffhanger. In Season 2, there were a lot of things going on between two sides. All I can say is that if you watched Evangelion, and feel that it's out there, well, you might also think that about this show too. But if you liked Evangelion, then you'll probably enjoy this one as well. Some shows that have weirdness don't always bother me, unless it gets tooooo over the top nonsense. But you never know; even if you think Evangelion was over the top you might not feel the same about Knights of Sidonia. I guess you should just watch it to find out. Netflix also has a Spanish dub version, which was a pleasant surprise, so I might watch it all over again in Spanish. Hopefully they will come out with another season since the creator said he would end his manga on September 25 of this year. We'll just have to wait and see. Overall, I enjoyed this show.
